In Europe, where the majority of thinkers and intellectuals actually LIVE, it is often necessary to apologise for being a Christian if you are an academic - it's just not normal.

Well, considering that in AMERICA, where Ann Coulter is commenting on, you can look up statistics (or learn them from an AP Government text book) that show that master's degrees holders are more likely to be conservative than bachelor's degrees holders, who are more liberal than non-college graduates. Also, Darwin praises God repeatedly in "Origin of the Species" and Newton, the man who discovered the law of Gravity, was not an alchemist, but the first PHYSICIST, and christian.

Darwin did not "praise" God at all - the core ideas of "Origin of Species" show that he simply could not have been Christian - they fundamentally operate against a Christian philosophical position. More telling is the fact that he postponed publication of the work, as the social ethos of the time meant that he could not express atheism in public, and was afraid of retribution.

Christianity = term to describe an organized religion. Liberalism = term to describe a set of socio-political values. These things are not mutually exclusive. Another way of putting it is a Liberal who is also a practicing Christian, or a Christian who also subscribes to liberal ideas. The way DarkCandyBoy describes himself, he is probably more middle of the road/moderate, but left-leaning, so he identifies as a liberal. I don't blame him.
