If a person has a standard moral code than they are in essense living with desires. Buddah taught that suffering is caused by having desires. The longing for suppressing yourself is likewise a cause of suffering. Buddah didn't teach people to follow morals as his modern day adherents exclaim; if he did than he would indeed have been contradicting his own teaching!
Morals also produce guilt. If you have morals, rebel against them and indeed you will be confronted with guilt. I would also add that desire is not the only cause of suffering but likewiese fear and he/she who has morals lives in fear. A person with morals becomes afraid to do the things which they believe are immoral. When Marra the Devil delivered his three daughters Passion, Lust, and Aversion; Aversion lurked in the shadows and she was the most deceptive.
If Buddah would have said, 'No this is entirely disgusting' then he would of been slave to Passion; therefore, he only gazed at them without any attraction or repulsion. Here it is taught that you should not have morals concerning evil and good or rather judgments; however, what it does teach is that one with intentions, desires, judgments, suppressions, resistence, and will shall always experience conflict.
In conflict there is suffering and disconnection from God [the all which we are], or what I will call the Tao! If you walk in the light you will go blind for it is to bright and if you traverse the night you will likewise not be able to see for it is to dark. @Ziggurathss I disagree. Some schools of Buddhism recognize many gods, and some recognize none. Most Buddhists focus on freedom of personal attatchments and enlightenment simply because trying to concieve god is a waste of time because it is impossible to comprehend. The goal of enlightenment is, like in Hinduism, to escape the birth-death-rebirth cycle, thus acknowledging, but not in depth, a reality beyond this one, after death.
Buddhism & Hindoisme focuses on the inner and the individual exploiration.
So self-discovery and self-examination are some sort of a key to develop and exploire the personal spiritual properties. We cant find answers in books but only in ourself and by ourself..
