Hehee not very good engine, VW TDI starts in few seconds with glow plugs not working or wires not connected at 0 degrees celsus (cold start). Behaves like this peugot (or even better) at minus 20 without glow plugs but stil starts :)
@danielpbaker have to wait for all lights to go off otherwise imobiliser will be on. Also if the plugs were heated up it would of started and be no unburned diesel coming from exhaust. got no reason to lie, couldn't really care less. your the one watching these videos
@punchmaster123 through compression mate, the glow plugs just help the engine start, once it has fired up it will run, in a diesel engine, the compressed air is so compressed, the heat that is generated through the compression is enough to combust the diesel, thus moving the piston down. cheers petrol engines need spark plugs to ignite the fuel
@chazfensk glow plugs just help the starting process by heating up the combustion chamber, once the engine fires they turn off, sometimes they stay on for a while longer till the desired temperature is reached.
the reason for my car taking so long to start is because not one glow plug was working, and it took ages to start
@yamahonkawazuki well yes it must of, because when i took the glow plugs out not one worked, not even warm to touch.
lots of diesels have no glow plugs,
direct injection engines sometimes have glowplugs to assist the starting.Smaller car engines are normally of the sort that do need glowplugs but big truck engines and some industrial engines used for waterpumps etc do not have glowplugs.
@Richbowker umm yor wrong the glow plugs keep the engine running wen the engine fires the heat from the fire keeps the glow plugs hot to start the next fire of the engine yor plugs were glowing but all off them werent glowing hot only one was so wen u started the engine one piston was firing causinf un burnd fuel to ge into the exhaust and smoke so wen the engine heated up so did all the glow plugs :)
@seanweimorts Diesel engines rely on the heat of compressed air to ignite their fuel not the glow plugs. When the engine is cold, compression alone may not produce enough heat for the fuel to burn, so most diesels use glow plugs, These glow plugs are switched on for anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds to make the engine easier to start. Glow plugs do not hold the heat 'heat from the fire keeps the glow plugs hot to start the next fire' your quote is incorrect,
@Richbowker umm no the glow plugs are heated from the fire of the engine not the air yes wen u compress air it will get hot same as if u de compress air it will get very cold but that alon still wont get the engine hot for it to fire up it needs the glow plugs as thay have small coils that hold that heat from the last fire of the engine for the next to light up so yor still wrong but you are right about not needing one thats only if the engine is so hot it will keep going that can also
@seanweimorts you are wrong, many many diesels dont have glow plugs, i have both a lister and a petter diesel engine that dont have them, all they use is the compression of air to heat up the air inside to such a degree that when the injector sprays the fuel ignites, glow plugs in direct injection engines have a tip that sits the the injectors spray path so when electrical curent is passed though the coil inside they heat up and the engine cranks thus spaying diesel on to the plug and igniting
@05clenharth it, many diesel engines dont need glow plugs to start, only in the cold where the compression of the air alone in not enough to ignite the diesel in the first few cranks, in this car though it has obvioisly done many miles or has had a hard life and due to ware and tare has reduced the compression to the point where it cant start without much cranking to build heat as the comprssion is low so it is not making as much heat, after a while cranking building up heat it eventualy starts
Dude get a new car will ya... I own Golf 4 1.9 SDI,1998, mine started a lot quicker with no glow plugs at -5 to -8 celsius. It must be spring on the video.
dude, it was bad at starting, i laugh when i see this video cause i put up with it for weeks, its starts pretty much normal now on three new glow plugs, shame one of them has sheared off flush with the head.
Стартер вам не жалко то? Столько крутить без остановки...? In English: Starter that isn't a pity to you? So much to twist without a stop...? In Ukraine we so don't do thet!!! :)
i take it you mean you should't put a big bore on a diesel?
from my experience with back pressure, it makes hardly no changes in performance or economy,
my 1978 trans am has no boxes in the system at all and sounds and drives a treat, see my video, and when i brought my peugeot with the standard box it drives just the same as it did before,
its halfed the cost of fuel and it runs great on it i am getting more mileage out of it and its best used during summer as its a different mix to normal diesel you can still use it in the winter but you'll have to mix more normal diesel with it...
its defo worth taking the head off and getting that 4th glow plug sorted as all the 405's desiels are excellent cars i have a 405 1.9 td executive estate and she did the same put new plugs in she improved but still had probs starting first thing then put new intector seals in and that stopped the fuel going back over night doesn't cost much but you have to goto you local main dealer to get the washers as they are speacial type etc...and i am now runninng on bio diesel and talk about difference
bastard wasnt the word, i brought it and the previous owner new it was like this, so i was unlucky!!
i have changed 3 of the 4 glow plugs and its muched better, but i can't change one of them as it has been sheared off flush with the head, i have tried welding a nut to it but no good, i would need to drill it out and helicoil it, but its too much work, si i'll put up with it,
@Richbowker ahh i see what ya mean, i changed the spark pug on my motorcycle and it snapped in the head, had to drill it out and and use a tap and die set, aweful job since you have to take the head off the engine
I do believe that the fact of having no glow plugs isn't the biggest issue here. There's surely something wrong with your engine, maybe low compression, i don't know. Still I like your dog though :P
go to the pharmacy buy a bottle of ether wet a rag stick it in the intake start the car , cranking the car that long ruins the whole startig system got it now ?
