Why do politicians keep repeating the same thing over and over!!!?? What we need is TRANSFORMATION of education. Gov. Jan Brewer brings little personal education to AZ leadershipby Katherine LaRue on Feb.19, 2009Jan Brewer took office as Arizona state gov. Jan. 20, when former gov. Janet Napolitano departed for Washington to assume her post as the Secretary of Homeland Security. Since,Brewer has sent a pretty clear message to students and educators across Arizona. Brewer had no problem signing off on the now-infamous budget plan that will take $350 mill. away from our state’s public education system.
This may be old news, but outrage over Brewer’s decision shouldn’t cease. By giving those budget cuts her approval, Brewer has told Arizonans she doesn’t value education or care about the future of Arizona. There’s a pretty simple reason for this: Brewer may have nearly 30 years of political experience, but there’s one thing she doesn’t have – a college degree.
With outsourcing, rampant technological advancement, pay cuts and reduced benefits, and colleges jacking up the prices, these are things every politician talks about but doesn't do much to curb the issue. I guess we'll have to see how well Obamacare works out. Oh yeah, it would help if this hypocritical administration didn't cut science programs.
I'm all for higher education and what not, but one needs to have a conscience as well. How can we seriously allow people with "Special needs" to attend college? If they have to take out large amounts of money to attend, how in the world are they going to pay it back. You think banks give a fuck if they are "Special." On the flip side, how can an average student afford to take loans, when there is a growing fear that the jobs might not be there when they get out?
Government (public schools) are an utter failure and a collosal waste of money. Why anyone would want to increase the amount of money thrown into this rat hole? Every study out there shows home schoolers and private schoolers educate more with less money. End government schools now. Allow citizens to take their tax money they opay for government school and pay for far btter private schools instead.
Also you dont really know what your learning is the truth or not. people just tell other what they "think" they know...or believe, so at the end of the day your only given opinions, not facts from almost anything. also theres places where the books are actually lies, to cover up the truth, or simply not revealing anything at all. Somehow every textbook is diffrent from one another. i remember theres a state where mexicans arnt allow to learn their history...i forgot which tho.
You know wats ironic, education dosent come from school. Learning dosent come from teaching, it comes from experiences. social studies has no influence on critical thinking skills, philosophy does. cancer and aids cant be cured. the #1 reason why people drop out is because they have classes they KNOW they dont like as well as not going to use it in the future anyway. And yet their stuck with it wasting their time. We get no free choices. this is why school sucks.
first of all this is a speech to the kids he wil save the statistics for the adults. what obama is talking about is the real deal and what is really going on and how things are. he is giving his personal experiences and telling these kids what they need to here. funny thing is the speech is going through the kids ears and out the other. America doesnt realize how good they have it and im worried about our future because kids arent getting the basic fundamentals of learning. america is in trouble
@BlackxxArrow truthfully america is behind on education and as much as it sucks we really do need to extend the school year. Japan, Europe, China, India, and Africa are learning things in second grade and third grade that we wont learn until third grade and the fourth grade. then most of the schools already have longer school days. america needs better education not more hours but more weeks will be fine and the rate of children passing will definitley increase.
@dbhbabyd Exactly. Better education, not more hours. I know of private schools where kids are learnign things in Kindergarten that public school jr high students might not be exposed to. And they do just fine with it.
@BlackxxArrow i have strait A's, i do my work, and i have a 3 week summer vacation. it would do america a lot of good if he did that. maybe we can become more like my classmates and I.
There are like 70 million students in the US Grade K-12 and Government spends 593 million a year on their education
That's 8.5 million dollars per kid per year yet the kids are failing in math and science
On the other hand "My baby can read" is a few hundred dollars and kids as young as 18 months can read as is "hooked on Phonics",as is the "super math/memory" (allowing 5 years olds to do algebra and calculus) programs
True difference between when government runs something v.s. capitalism
While the "Birthers" insist Mr. Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, rather, a foreign national of KENya, there's no disputing that page 53 of the 1991-92 annual shows a KENYA in Ms. HOLDER, which could link to the middle school 1980s + the KENya associated with puppy love. That Ms. HOLDER majored in INTERMEDIATE EDUCATION only strengthens the interpretation since defunct bRAWley was an INTERMEDIATE school. Also on page 53: HELLene HUNTer, who commented on your butt heat in the MAC lab
That "puppy love" KENya has a brother, CURTIS, is not related to the stone cult or former U.S. Sen. John edWARDS hailing from MOORE County. Also on page 53 of the 1991-92 annual: JAMES HANKS.
HANKS is unrelated to denizens of the dark spirit world. Mervin Howard is also on page 53. Now, remembering him on his bike seems to have new meaning. Ms. HOLDER is presumably no relation to Obama's pick for U.S. Attorney General, ERIC HOLDER or the stone cult's 177 ERIC / middle school 1980s-related
That JAMES HANKS (Belmont, NC in Gaston County) on page 53 of the 1991-92 annual was a POLITICAL SCIENCE major could link nicely with supernatural craft HOLDing that wishes for "time rollback" to the middle school 1980s and Obama's startling ascent to the White House. Remember, Obama was a STATE SENATOR in Illinois FOUR years before taking the oath of office on January 20, 2009. Add KENYA HOLDer and 82nd U.S. Attorney General, ERIC HIMpTON HOLDER, and the case is strengthened.
Now Michelle Obama is in charge of controlling your child's weight. She makes note of her kid's body mass index, a measurement that should never be used on children. I'm so glad these delusional fools are in control of the weather, the banks (the feds swooped in and bought my mortgage recently) the auto industry, education, your utilities ("smart meter" scheduled to be installed on my house), medicine and now my kid's weight?. Where does it stop with these sick people? Vote limited govermnt
@bigdogphoto The government is in no way shape or form in control of your child's weight. And to even allude to the fact they control the weather is ludicrous. It is your sole responsibility to feed your child what they need. And what she does with her kids is her business I had to get my BMI in school at the age of 12 or 13.
i did not vote for this guy. but i agree with this speech. i came from a neighborhood growing up where only about 2% of people actually graduate with a bachelors degree. i am about to graduate and go to a Masters program then PhD in education. start working hard EARLY and beleive me it will pay off
important job in this country??? Agriculture. Most of todays agriculturalists and farmers havent been to a college. But if we didnt have them the US would be screwed, would probably be getting all man-made food from china. If Ag. was to disappear tomorrow, most of the population would last 3 days.
you guys can talk bad about me all you want, i really dont care. But it find it very offensive that Obama says you have to go to college to have an important job in our country. Thats completely 100% wrong. What is the most
COUNTRYMAN223 is a fukin dumb ass mutha fuka...u juz mad cuz we gat a black president u damn dummie probably got mad cuz u didn't understand what he was sayin cuz slo ass fuk u fukin prick
Tammi222 i was just saying because you don't know how to spell....actually i got bored with watching it after five minutes and started reading comments =]....fuck
oh my god obama is totally right . Family's are not all ghetto he is right on how kids should stay in school because when every kid and teenager grows up we will be the future of america this is a very good speech and i agree with him if you dont like it oh well !
Yet, this is also flawed in that this is a stable country not wartorn or overplagued with homeless. Every average family in the so-called ghetto that is surviving in America, maybe not rich but making it, is a testament to that fact.
Oh my goodness, are my eyes fooling me? The comment below me is written by the most ignorant bigot in the world. See, it's racists and uninformed people like "COUNTRYMAN223" that hold our country from moving forward in education and being the best country we can be.

dude this guy is a liar he dont know wat hes talking about. ur wasting ur time listening to him. we watched this in school and i told the teacher right in front of her face im not listening to a nigger. i got sent to the office but i dont care i dont like niggers and liars.

sure you did you backward hillbilly Inbred. go back to taking it in the ass from daddy like you always do. cause we all know that's how you folks keep it in the family.
lol perhaps that word is not the best choice.. but many many black people are quite rude and disrespectful... and they really need to get some manners.. and why do they call each other nigger, but no one else can?
My kids saw this in school too, and I also made sure that they sat down at home and saw it again. I recorded them watching it and their response. I will be uploading soon and posting it to my channel. They are just 5 and 6 years old but they really got a lot out of it. Kids are really smart at a young age. It is just a wonderful thing to see someone address this with our children.
are you kidding...im not one for school but this really inspired me.. we are the new generation if we don't pull through.. america wont b what we were ...we are slowly giong down and if we don't step up we wont b the great nation weve been
wow Alexxc13 I really do hope you are kidding about that affirmative action coment. If your not then you have no clue whatsoever about what affirmative action is.
You are wrong because it is the unnecessary biases that warrant affirmative action. Or are you so unaware that such things still exist even today? Just look at what COUNTRYMAN223 wrote. This is a big country and there are plenty of racists out there holding big cards that would hold other ethnicities back from their fair rights.
yes, it is true that affirmative action was implemented due to unnecessary biases, though they still create other biases as a result, limiting the population of certain ethnicities in universities... even if someone who is of one ethnicity is more deserving of admittance than someone of another race... which is why affirmative action really does not do much
we all kno what we have 2 do but soemtimes even kids need 2 take a break and miss a few assigments we can only do our best but i'm 17 in high school everything they teach us will not b used in d job world even if d job needs it it will not b needed in d job we do our best ourselves cause we want 2 but u cant tell us we cant drop out or its not an option 2 take cause if u need 2 then do it u can still get a job or get a ged we will do what we can do, pressure gets 2 us and stops us from workin

I'm 15 years old. I don't need a liar president to tell me to do well in school. I get enough of that bullshit from my teachers. All you need is a 6th grade education to function in the modern world. I'm never going to use calculus or SAT vocabulary. I'm proud to say I haven't been brainwashed by mass media into thinking that Obama is the answer to all of our problems. I plan to drop out of school. Take that, Obama.
great..hey ill see you at the 7-11...get ready to change my 100 dollar bills. its scum like you that disgrace the world. stay in school, get an education, and maybe you can live a good life.
If you drop out of High School this early, just know that you wont be able to get a descent job with out a High School Diploma, and if you are lucky enough to get a job, you will struggle, i promise. So avoid having a kid or he/she will starve to death because you cant support him/her. All because you decided to be some dumbass outrageous 15 year old to drop out of School.
Oh and i just thought I'de let you know, this is coming from someone who is your Age.... That's saying something.
troll troll is troll. Nobody with only a sixth grade education, and especially nobody who uses youtube, uses proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
also; psssst....if you aren't a troll, you DON'T know everything, and it turns out people with no skills and no education are expendable in the workforce. You're best hope is looking at being a fry cook at Mcdonalds the rest of your life. Have fun! I'll have fries with that.
So inspiring. Obama knows he would not have got to where he is without an education so good for him for emphasising the importance of it to the future generations. Good for him for saying it's a priority on his agenda. This is what a good leader does. Thank you mr president - keep inspiring us.
I can't stand Obama because of what he believes in. But... This was a good speech. There is nothing wrong with him telling kids that they can do anything they want to do IF they do their homework/ their responsibilities. lol
I would be proud to know that someone is out there that is encouraging my children to succeed. Children sometimes listen to strangers or people of influence more than what we have to say as parents. For someone to to care for not just the success of their own children but yours as well shows a "UNITED" and caring society. America be the United Nation as you are known to be. Let the world be proud of you.
Cool that he's encouraging kids to work hard at school, but I don't think it is addressing the real problem, (which is another topic entirely.) What I don't like is that this reinforces the message that those who don't aspire to a certain life paths are worthless. What about all the people who aren't going to be Doctors or Lawyers or Writers or Inventors? What about the construction workers, chefs, waitresses, janitors? Those people fulfill important roles in society too.
true, but the idea is really that people who want something else than being a janitor can aspire to anything they want to be. And I'm sure there are plenty of people who are just fine with being janitors.
Thank you, someone else get's it! Not to mention the individualists, successful entrepreneurs, and artists out there who also contribute to this society.
great speech and very motivating but i can't see how people could think this is brainwashing i mean all he's doing is motivating students to do well in school and believe in themselves.
The only people who spinned this as brainwashing are those intolerant bigots who can not accept a black person as the President and are desperate for a smokescreen to hide their bigotry and hatred. There can be no other explanation. Where I come from, we don't even need anyone to motivate us to learn, anyway. We are self-motivated towards education as a way out of poverty.
I must say that I was impressed. He remembered to continue addressing us students instead of constantly appealing to some "higher authority" Bravo Obama. Bravo.
the reason why conservatives dont want to hear obama or see him do well is because their society cannot stand to see a black man in power or send out a good message. if John Mcain was giving the same exact speech, then no one would be complaining.
im conservatives portugese / white man and your statement is biased.
the remarks the President made was delivered to our Americas pupils on Tuesday turned out to be in the mainstream of back to school statements and had nothing to do with a race and nothing more. Then again you probably didn't make it pass the 5th grade to fully comprehend what every thing I said.
Yes people did speak out.. That was the same day 911 happened. and I felt he let me down on his actions by not stating up to the teacher "ma'am" i must address the nation and leave. any thing else you like to throe out.
no. I heard from a European and he was talking about how a lot of americans are ignorant and stupid. I had no choice to agree with him. We have a LOT of ignorant americans , like the guy who said , "You lie!" I feel so sorry for those who ae fools.
The reason they wouldn't be complaining is because they agree more with McCain's policies than Obama's not because of an issue as base as someone's skin color. Conservatives hate(d) Clinton and Carter too because of their policies and, what do you know, they're white men!
You know what, what a SHAME that people were so immature about this. I'm in highschool, and I was infuriated that my school didn't show this. GOOD for him for doing this! Its a great speech. And if it keeps one kid from dropping out, and being a failure, then the speech was totally worth it. In no way was this to further himself politically!
& thats clear.
He is the PRESIDENT. People should have more respect for him.
Just like the respect people gave George W. Bush? I mean sure go ahead and make the argument that he was a complete and total idiot, he was the PRESIDENT. People should have had more respect for him.
Wow, he gave advice that many parents fail to give to their kids! I was pissed when I watched on TV stupid parents pulling their kids out of class so they wouldn't watch the speech.
i watch this obama speech over and over i know everybody was so excited to hear this speech and i am glad obama is the president because he willing to work with american education, better jobs for adults i think thats parents should let there child watch this because obama is tellin us as teens and kids to get an education and stay in school ,study book, obey parents you can drop out and just drop in and think ya finna get an job
i would be psyched if i were in kindergarten and watched this, i mean the president is giving a message to children! its supposed to be helping them make good academic choices! not hypnotize them into being socialists. honestly, there was a time when people respected the president no matter his political party.
If I had a school age child I would've allowed him/her to listen and to write me a report on what it meant to them to have the Pres. interested in their education. He is simply the most thoughtful President!!!
i think the problem is ppl who tell others that there wrong for disagreeing with them. if i said i had a problem with this speech you'd say i have a problem no matter my reason because it isnt what u want to hear
i dont understand the big fuss about why certain schools wouldnt allow students to watch this speech. this man is trying to plant seeds of hope into students all over america. If george bush was up there tryna say this shit i garuntee there wouldnt be so much commotion about this speech.
Proof read your comments before posting. President Obama is trying to advise us of how important education is. The United States is currently falling behind in education...its not a lecture but a serious crisis!
wow when i said who the fuck cares i was referring to mrdap16 not the video...so calm down, and that's nifty jesus' is ur savior i dnt really care who ur savior was unless maybe...its captain kirk
Also, before everyone comments on it, I realize the word "little" was spelled wrong in the previous post. I blame the small Ipod keyboard, but have a field day with it. Thank You.
Wow, after another review of the comments I see that racist terms such as the N word are being used. I am not one for censoring but children use this service and the language should be filtered at least a litlle bit so as not to offend entire races. Grow Up or leave ignorant.
My God, with all of the spelling errors in every post it seems obvious that we need a President to speak out about how important education is. Please quit with the shorthand internet lingo and talk like adults.
OMG get over it this is youtube. I mean i bet we are all educated but we all have a life (unlike you) and dont have time to write "proper" like you do....
steaklol990 - If you're actually being serious, then you're a shining example of why education needs a stronger focus in this country - your posts are full of spelling errors.
Finaly some more smart people are commenting, Just a few hours ago There has been so many people saying bad things about this speech, now its a bit better.
he is a product of life and a symbol of americia and if you dont like it then you dont like the country. you can leave but i like this speech and really really hope he can motivate the citizens and make this a better place for my children and theirs. life is too short and we need to do the right thing every seccond of the day and spread the opptimisum and charity. Sined, US CITIZEN
I wonder how many parents & school administrators opposed the other presidents speech in the past.I don't remember this much controversy. Well maybe the school districts wanted to give a magic show intead or have McGruff to come by for an hour....lol
people see, hear, and believe what they want to believe. this is why they will have a much harder time accepting things hurled at them through life then we will. they're closed minded, simple, and i think you get the idea. this speech was well thought out and inspirational. you can't tell people to better themselves enough. I LOVE BEING MOTIVATED.
i dont understand what the problem is we let our children watch everything else but when the president want to give a positive speech then there is an issue.WHY?
thanks President Obama for giving this speech...Our kids need to strive to be something else other than football players or entertainers of some sort....
agreed, you are 100% correct. Obama is striving to make a better america for all of us and this speech is a great inspiration for all of us to suceed.

Athruebelief 11 months ago
With outsourcing, rampant technological advancement, pay cuts and reduced benefits, and colleges jacking up the prices, these are things every politician talks about but doesn't do much to curb the issue. I guess we'll have to see how well Obamacare works out. Oh yeah, it would help if this hypocritical administration didn't cut science programs.
Devildriver763 11 months ago
I'm all for higher education and what not, but one needs to have a conscience as well. How can we seriously allow people with "Special needs" to attend college? If they have to take out large amounts of money to attend, how in the world are they going to pay it back. You think banks give a fuck if they are "Special." On the flip side, how can an average student afford to take loans, when there is a growing fear that the jobs might not be there when they get out?
Devildriver763 11 months ago

BlackxxArrow 1 year ago 2
@BlackxxArrow truthfully america is behind on education and as much as it sucks we really do need to extend the school year. Japan, Europe, China, India, and Africa are learning things in second grade and third grade that we wont learn until third grade and the fourth grade. then most of the schools already have longer school days. america needs better education not more hours but more weeks will be fine and the rate of children passing will definitley increase.
dbhbabyd 1 year ago
@dbhbabyd Exactly. Better education, not more hours. I know of private schools where kids are learnign things in Kindergarten that public school jr high students might not be exposed to. And they do just fine with it.
tobiasrobbins72 1 year ago
@BlackxxArrow That won't happen until your out of high school. Won't happen in one presidential term either.

GWhiz99 2 years ago
GWhiz99 2 years ago
GWhiz99 2 years ago
Now Michelle Obama is in charge of controlling your child's weight. She makes note of her kid's body mass index, a measurement that should never be used on children. I'm so glad these delusional fools are in control of the weather, the banks (the feds swooped in and bought my mortgage recently) the auto industry, education, your utilities ("smart meter" scheduled to be installed on my house), medicine and now my kid's weight?. Where does it stop with these sick people? Vote limited govermnt
bigdogphoto 2 years ago
@bigdogphoto The government is in no way shape or form in control of your child's weight. And to even allude to the fact they control the weather is ludicrous. It is your sole responsibility to feed your child what they need. And what she does with her kids is her business I had to get my BMI in school at the age of 12 or 13.

valcore01 2 years ago
are you kidding me? why would we not do away with affirmative action? it creates unnecessary biases
Alexxc13 2 years ago
You are wrong because it is the unnecessary biases that warrant affirmative action. Or are you so unaware that such things still exist even today? Just look at what COUNTRYMAN223 wrote. This is a big country and there are plenty of racists out there holding big cards that would hold other ethnicities back from their fair rights.
cjlouis1029 2 years ago
yes, it is true that affirmative action was implemented due to unnecessary biases, though they still create other biases as a result, limiting the population of certain ethnicities in universities... even if someone who is of one ethnicity is more deserving of admittance than someone of another race... which is why affirmative action really does not do much

I would be proud to know that someone is out there that is encouraging my children to succeed. Children sometimes listen to strangers or people of influence more than what we have to say as parents. Let the world be proud of you.

Great speech!!! I don't mind having my kids watching it. I don't see anything wrong with it.
soriya143 2 years ago
Cool that he's encouraging kids to work hard at school, but I don't think it is addressing the real problem, (which is another topic entirely.) What I don't like is that this reinforces the message that those who don't aspire to a certain life paths are worthless. What about all the people who aren't going to be Doctors or Lawyers or Writers or Inventors? What about the construction workers, chefs, waitresses, janitors? Those people fulfill important roles in society too.
Sherbrick 2 years ago
true, but the idea is really that people who want something else than being a janitor can aspire to anything they want to be. And I'm sure there are plenty of people who are just fine with being janitors.

@TurkeyBoy94
The only people who spinned this as brainwashing are those intolerant bigots who can not accept a black person as the President and are desperate for a smokescreen to hide their bigotry and hatred. There can be no other explanation. Where I come from, we don't even need anyone to motivate us to learn, anyway. We are self-motivated towards education as a way out of poverty.

the reason why conservatives dont want to hear obama or see him do well is because their society cannot stand to see a black man in power or send out a good message. if John Mcain was giving the same exact speech, then no one would be complaining.
wickedfan5172 2 years ago 2
im conservatives portugese / white man and your statement is biased.
the remarks the President made was delivered to our Americas pupils on Tuesday turned out to be in the mainstream of back to school statements and had nothing to do with a race and nothing more. Then again you probably didn't make it pass the 5th grade to fully comprehend what every thing I said.

The reason they wouldn't be complaining is because they agree more with McCain's policies than Obama's not because of an issue as base as someone's skin color. Conservatives hate(d) Clinton and Carter too because of their policies and, what do you know, they're white men!

people see, hear, and believe what they want to believe. this is why they will have a much harder time accepting things hurled at them through life then we will. they're closed minded, simple, and i think you get the idea. this speech was well thought out and inspirational. you can't tell people to better themselves enough. I LOVE BEING MOTIVATED.
