i am perfectly accepting to bands who grow and change, but just as some people grow and change, not for the better, so do some bands in my opinion. im not tying to be "inde" but i am an origional fan who misses their origional sound. but im glad they have become popular, and gained success that comment was triggered by seeing a jonothan devoto acoustic show, he played some of their old stuff, and it made me realize how much i missed it.

This new CD is a lot different than E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals and Decomposer.

At first response, I didn't like the CD at all.

But after listening to it more, it's okay. I actually like a lot of the songs.

I think the band may be trying too hard to get big. The most this CD has going for it is catchy-ness.

I'm not trying to diss The Matches. They are my favorite band.

In fact, I get to see them at the House of Blues on May 2nd. ^_^

well. you have to understand that their first album was NOTHING like what they wanted to sound like. at one point, yes, but not now they've matured. also, they came from a heavily religious area, so they turned a lighter side a bit natrually. honestly, this song is good. its hard, but a lighter side to it. just how i like my indie bands.

they are the kind of band that feels they need to impress people. when they play their headlining shows or smaller shows they tend to not rock out as hard but when on tour with bigger bands they go all out.

they will just have to mature a lot more if they want to keep their fans.

I absolutely LOVE the new record. All of my favorite bands are the ones who continually evolve and progress in their sound. The Matches' new record continues their growth in a direction that seems completely natural for them, and I, for one, am not surprised (and I mean that in a positive way) at the feel of the new songs. They still sound like the creative, intelligent, tons-of-fun band I love, and I don't think they've alienated their fans at all.

ive noticed is that they only work hard when they get validation from the crowd. whenever the majority of the crowd isnt into them they step back and half ass it a little.

my best example is the plus 44 tour, the matches were getting so much hate from the crowd, yet shawn was trying so hard to impress them, i have never seen them play a better show then that one.

im not sure why the matches were trying so hard san diego is where blink 182 started so the fans werent there for the matches.

I saw them on that tour in Tucson. Aaaand...if it weren't for travis, the Matches would have rocked way harder than +44. They weren't trying too hard at all, and the crowd loved them. Travis just made +44 epic because of his one-armed drumming. Otherwise, Mark actually looked like he was trying too hard.

usually at san diego shows the matches dont act like they did on that show, shawn was acting kind of pathetic & im not used to him being like that. they tried so hard to impress a crowd that didnt like them but sometimes they dont do that for the real fans. i think they should try hard everytime and its obvious when they are just going through the motions

i didnt watch the whole +44 show but they seemed pretty comfortable, but that could be because its their hometown.

guys, the matches turned their head toward indie right after EVD. some reviewers even think decomposer was indie-like because of all the different songs. also, the best bands are ones who dont constantly release the same sounding songs. even though that would be nice, its better if theres a little bit of change yaknow? like the killers.
