I remember this Dublin concert broadcast in Chicago. It was the Chinatown tour and I believe it was shared with the Dire Straits. Although it was a Gorham/White guitar combo I remember it being quite good! It included Chinatown & Got To Give It Up along with this tune which sounds great live. Scot Gorham is awesome..the melodic shredder!
Love the Dublin rapped "letter" at the end. A live classic, that part. From the Killers Live 4-song 12" EP, 45 RPM! "All bands were BAHHHRED from the RDS (Royal Dublin Society)". 'This was WRONNNNG!!" "Yours Sincerely, Lonely Boy".lol Great.
I know ive mentioned it before, but god Greenday have realy nicked,, mmm stolen some chords here,, so so simular,, have a listen to Jesus of Surburbia,, not realy compairing just saying,, nice one Blacksab fan by the way
I was so lucky to see Lizzy live. In fact they were the opening act for Queen and I saw them at a 2500 seat venue. Freddie and Phil on the same stage in one night. That is one of those magical things that looking back, you know how lucky you have been to see them.
To MintyNinty21:Um,..Green Day sampled this, not the other way around.Just an FYI,cos this is an Oooold song.Way older than Green Day.Good band they are though! But they arent Thin Lizzy.Luv these guys!!
This is so awesome. I didn't start listening to Lizzy until '86 when I was a senior in HS. I met Brian Downey at Slattery's in Dublin in 1999 before his show, and I saw a "lizzy" show also in Dublin. These guys had talent, not like the whiners of today
This appeared on the "B" side of an EP (10" edition I think) which I have called Live Killers. The A side started with a blistering version of Are you Ready, it also has Bad Reputation with drum solo and Opium Trail. Excellent stuff, with Phil saluting Bob Geldoff and Aer Lingus:) I always loved that EP. RIP Philo!
green day have stolen the opening chords to this,, no probs i like Green Day,, have a listen Jesus of Suburbia,, you will see what i mean,, mind you the whole song reminds me of Lizzy,, some Black Rose in there to
Considering they are both D Bm G A, a common progression and key....the police's "Every Breathe I Take" is also the same progression and key, which is why Lynott adlibbed it a lot when they did this live.
@BigAlzer I'm lucky enough to be old enough to have seen em. 4 times in the 70's. Twice at the New Victoria and twice at Lewisham Odean. Sort of lost track of them in the 80's much to my regret. Remember starting to leave the venue at Victoria, London. They'd done 2 encores and came on for a 3rd, little darling. Couldn't get back in there quick enough. They were a kick arse band. If Phil had lived he'd still be the best. Still in love with you Philo.

haha im only 16 but my da also has this as he was at this gig. i envy him and anyone else who ever got to see Phil and Lizzy :( if only i was old enogh
I'm so glad for being introduced to Thin Lizzy. I was never a fan of this 'new age' crap, infact the majority if not all of these so could talents consist of no real substance. Its hearing a tune of this magnitude that you begin to really understand the meaning of true musicianship.
Thin Lizzy were without a doubt 'accomplished musicians' overflowing like a waterfall of crystallised talent. I will never stop listening, infact I'm dancing in the moonlight as the sun goes down doing anything I want 2 coz I'm a rocker.
KISS wanted to be extreme.. Even though theyre labelled ridiculous they made some damn complicated, proffesional music. But they said from the start it was to be more of a show, instead of just the music. There for the make up n stuff. Even though they turned into sell outs, I must say they made some very good songs. Especially the guitar stuff, its catchy, but still skilled. But I 2 dislike m. They were musical/theater stuff. f'ed up the fun for serious bands. Thin Lizzy is a legend on its own.
I've been a big fan of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott, Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher for longer than I'd like to say. I miss Phil and Rory so much; but listen to their music all the time. I just started listening to Eli "Paperboy" Reed. I'd never heard of him 'til recently. But KISS...I never istened to them. I don't know, maybe I'm being closed minded and missing out on something, but I found some of the band members so repulsive, I just literally tuned them out.........any comments?
Ive seen Lizzy live, also Ive seen, Rory Gallagher, BB King, Motorhead, Hawkwind, Albert Collins, Wishbone Ash, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Girlschool, Gary Moore, Deep Purple, and they were all fantastic, (although Black Sabbath just started to annoy me after a while)
I saw Thin Lizzy and AC-DC play together at Comiskey Park, great show.
I saw Zeppelin on their first American your in 1969 and they were sleep inducing; Vanilla Fudge blew them right out of Cook County that night. Jethro Tull smoked them both. Interesting show.
The Ramones live, especially when they broke in 1977, had a power and drive and crunch that was amazing. They were like Mountain on amphetamines, something amazing to see and hear.
Yeah, I've been forunate enough to see AC/DC and I also saw Robert Plant opening for The Who back in '02.
I missed a lot of good bands, simply because of my youth...but it's always interesting to hear impressions from others who saw them...good and bad. Thanks for sharing that with me and everyone else.
That's funny my collection should come up...it only consists of two bands. Unless you count all the spinoffs Lynott did and his solo stuff.
I've always thought about posting other stuff. I have a lot of UFO and some other bands as well, but I wanted to keep it limited and focused. Thanks for the compliments.
Yes, the original studio track is from Lynott's solo album (although all the members from Lizzy played on it...it's basically a Lizzy track that didn't appear on a Lizzy album). In any case, that's not what I posted. I make it all very clear in the description. Sometimes it's nice to read those...
I love Thin Lizzy, bought up listening 2 them, n now i have a bigger collection than my dad!!! Jus wish i woz born earlier so i could of seen them play :(
This is sheer undeniable proof that the fabricated music produced today is utter bull shit, there is no 'real' talent or bands we'd regard as accomplished musicians. Thank the lord for the greatest band to ever graze the earth, THIN LIZZY. The Years shall pass but the music shall remain timeless.
I only whish I could have thiss band in thier prime, unfortunatly I was born in fucking 1988.
I hear you. I was born in 1991 and today's music is shit. Greatest band ever? Personally, I think that belongs to the Beatles but Thin Lizzy are one of my all time favorite bands. They make the top 12, probably would've been in the top 10 if I had gotten into them earlier. Still, I hold Lizzy near and dear to my heart. Hell, I got all of their studio albums and the two live albums. As a bassist, I look up to Phil. He, Entwistle, and Roger Waters= bass gods!
@Jethrofinger I'm with you on the Lynott influence. Learning his songs especially the 1st three LPs taught me so much about melodic structures. Then his latter style of being rock solid, not in so much of a supportive role but displaying the bass as a commanding rhythmatic force. A great influence indeed! Now Entwistle...he taught me how to be a melodic monster...two completly different animals all together.
hahahaha my dad was at this!!!!! he has a vinyl of this gig cos he was at it. sorry but the vinyl sounds so much better. i wish i cudda been at it but i was born about 13 years too late :(
I have this live version on the Kings Call 12 inch single. The other song on the B side is Yellow Pearl. Thank you so much for all the brilliant Lizzy songs you post. Still Out Here xxx
