this is a drivable ice shanty not a rescue vehicle. the guy was just soaking in the water while they tried to get out of the water. not to mention it has to be tied to something and pulled in as well woulda been faster to throw him the ring and pull him in instead of pulling in a man AND a machine. last time i checked they were $12,000. that would buy alotta airboat/hovercraft. glad this isnt my town. we got it down.
Try looking up hovercraft ice rescues and then tell me you would rather have one of those come at you. Their ability to steer is far less superior compared to this machine. And this vehicle was initially made only for ice fishing and is fairly priced compared to non floating options which can be more expensive. And you can't tell me you would rather die then be rescued by this vehicle.
What a bunch of naysayers. A hovercraft rescue is far more dangerous and difficult. Looks to me like this vehicle got to the victim and safely removed him from the water. One person with one vehicle. Ask any fire/rescue person and they will tell you that is a hard thing to do. Also, how many rescues have you seen where someone is in "open" water...hardly happens. Who cares if he had to get winched up? The rescue was a success! Unbelievability cool machine.
I'm not sure who that comment was intended for, but I'm just the videographer. Every year we (sheriff's office) host an ice rescue event for fire departments, ambulance personnel, deputies and other rescue personnel. On this year, we extended an invitation to the Wilcraft company. The person operating the Wilcraft is an official representative, not some newbie. You want to impress people, do a better job..don't make excuses.
A victim fell through the ice and floating in open water? Riiiight. The Wilcraft is a quick deploy vehicle with a light footprint that its able to cross ice a guy can't walk on. The rescuer can get to the victim, be it a few yards off shore or a long way out with greater certainty, more quick with less effort and greater safety to the responder.
In short put tool in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it and this is what you get.
Wow, who ever came up with this design must have had his head in his ass. People who fall in freezing water do not typically have a heat jacket or time to wait for this slow ass machine to get stuck trying to get WINCHED up the ice. An obvious fail and I'd rather someone throw me the ring b/c it'll be so much quicker than waiting for the failmobile to chug along and freeze to death. Good for ice fishing, bad for rescue. I hope no one looses their life b/c failmobile took too long to get to them.

A hypothermic person won't be able to stop from having his or her face and/or stomach torn up by the edge of the ice.

What a pos. It can't move in the water too well, and the victim is at the mercy of unreliability. Another brainchild gone to he'll.
