I haven't read Horn, so I don't know whether you're right or not on this (of course I'll give you the benefit of the doubt) but HP Lovecraft, like so many european fiction authors of his day, was writing using the mistery religions as a motive. It was (still is) a big thing, in teosophist/new age authors.

If most humans would get their head out of the sand they just might learn something, or do a little research in the ancient writings it tells about the"Gods"/people who were very much more advanced. Do an in depth study of the book of Genesis it is there and also in other places in the book the Bible. you do not have to belong to any religious group, just do some research on the subject. we are not alone and have never been alone.

I don't believe for a second that these were just fictional gods that they just somehow made up. He was most likely a giant alien, which the bible says are called the Nephilim. According to Sitchin, the Annunaki are the aliens that came here and created Homo Sapien. The Nephilim are almost one and the same according to him.

I used to doubt this "crap," but after reading Apollyon Rising I really started to think: The devil and his armies have been working for thousands of years to prepare for their endtime deception. This deception is going to be one that truly fools the whole world...so that even the elect would be deceived "if that were possible," said Jesus. So, what kind of deception would be most advantageous to the devil? One that is so fantastic nobody but God's people would be able to see through it.
