  • Judy,

You rock! I have this knitting kit with a DVD, but could not figure out the last part to the stitch. After watching you do it, it clicked for me. Thanks for putting these videos up. I will be telling my friends about you. Thanks again.

    Sincerely,

    Amber

  • @ambnelson2003

thanks for the nice note. I hope you continue to watch and learn. knitting is so rewarding. do tell your friends and like me on my facebook page.

  • I just started knitting like 3 days ago and I can cast on, however when it comes to the knitting part it always unravels when I take the second stich from the left needle off. What am I doing wrong?

  • Way to fast

  • @civilwarVMIgirl

sorry it went too fast for you. I made another, slower version. look for that on my channel and I hope it will work better for you.

  • hi judy! i like ur voice! but u are kinda fast. im now knitting a scarf for a man, but i donno how many stitches should i made on the cast on. i am using 4.5mm needles and my yarn is....like the one u using in ur video... can u tell me how many stitches i should have on the cast on? :)

  • @missonecent

cast on as many stitches as you want for the width you want. have fun knitting.

  • omg too fast

  • @83JLopez

there is another one called Knit Stitch Slow. That might work better for you. Don't give up. Once you get it it's easy.

  • PLEASE ANSWER i am starting another project and i forgot how to start it. Do you start the project by doing the knit stitch?

  • @Llamalover38

you start by casting on, watch my video casting on slow version to see how. then you knit. have fun. look for me on facebook.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy thank you, it is my first time using thin yarn and small needles. Thank you so much

  • i did it, but i think i did it too tight? what should i do to fix that? thanks!

  • @yelnatsss1

if you're work is too tight that means you are pulling the yarn too tight. just relax and it will go smoothly. keep practicing. look for me on facebook.

  • @yelnatsss1 One way to help is to cast on with a size or 2 larger needles than you will be using for your project, then knit the rest of the item with the smaller size needle.

  • really really good videos !!

Myself and my 8 year old sat down this eve and both watched and picked p straight away with your cast off and then this one the knit stich. She is gone to bed so happy now she can knit and I plan on getting better and possibly knitting my baby girl due in october a nice blanket.

    x

  • @kimgrennan

thanks for the nice note you sent. It means a lot to me to hear success stories like yours and your 8 year old. hope you'll continue to watch and learn and enjoy knitting as much as I do. look for me on facebook too.

  • as i'm doing the knit stitch the width between both needles gets wider and wider! what am i doing wrong?!

  • @Xbg2010X

can't imagine what is wrong. watch the video again and again and pause it to see what I:m doing and do the same. good luck.

  • @Xbg2010X same with me!!!! idk what is wrong!!! :(

  • I have done the "casting on" stitch, and now this knit stitch, what next, or which video comes next?

And again like I said on the "cast on" video comments, you are way better than any book I have bought.

    Thanks Judy!!! <3

  • @onecrazydaysee

you should learn the purl stitch, then how to bind off. then you will know enough to start and finish a project!

  • you make it look sooooooooooo easy!!!!!!!! but thanks this is helping!!!(:

  • @HAHAheyitsashton

.I'm sure by now it's easy for you too. please keep watching and learning and have fun knitting. look for me on facebook too.

  • try

  • Can you please do a slow down version of this knit stitch because i just cannot seem to grasp it at this speed

  • @coralinegleek

it's on my to do list. keep watching. meanwhile, watch this one over and over and you'll probably get it.

  • i cast on 10 stitches.....when i go to start my first row, i end up with 11 stitches and the last stitch is always very loose............also after i cast on and start my first row, i end up with a long piece of yarn in between the needles and it gets longer and longer as i'm working on my first row???

  • @kjb2835 do you know how to get read of the long peice of yarn?

  • You are to fast.

  • @GagaSayWhat

sorry it was too fast for you. I hope you've watched it more times and have gotten it by now.

  • when i try to do the knit stitch all it does is unravel/undo the cast on stich.... did i cast on incorrectly?

  • @ebell2777

you need to keep trying. do it over and over till you get it right. watch and do just what I do and eventually it'll become easy. don't get discouraged.

  • @ebell2777

just keep watching the videos and do it over and over till it comes out right. practice makes perfect! look for me on facebook too.

  • Hi Judy! Thank you for your uploads! I'm really trying hard to learn how to knit. I do have a question though. When I finished the knit stitch and have done all the stitches then what? I'm not sure how to continue on from there. Is there a video for this? Right now I'm just hoping to make a simple scarf. Can you or any one more experienced than me help?

    Thanks!

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy thankyou =) found them not long later... finally 1/4 way through my scarf, although something went wrong at one point and I lost 2 stitches without noticing... oh well, beginners cant always be perfect ^^

love your video's though, brilliant help

  • @Demonickitten666

oh, so glad you're knitting. make sure those lost stitches aren't lurking about somewhere. you probably knitted 2 together though. keep knitting and thanks for letting me know.

  • I'm a 41 year old male trying to learn knitting hoping it will help with my depression, my stitches are looking a little sloppy but I guess that is a tension problem and will change over time.

    Thank you for your help..

  • @Salfordian35

glad to know you're knitting. I hope you'll watch more of my videos to learn more. look for me on facebook too.

  • Thumbs up if you got here from Robin McKinley's blog! ;)

  • how to i keep from accidently increasing?

i was knitting a scarf with 20 stitches and i realized it seemed to be getting wider and wider. now i have 31 stitches?

    how did that happen?

  • @crazyoagirl

sounds like you have to practice your knitting. Watch my video again and do it just as I do it. Go slow. You're obviously doing something wrong. Please keep at it.

  • @crazyoagirl - yes, that's exactly what happened to me. I also noticed that whenever I did the final one, it seemed to go wrong so when I was doing the 2nd row, there was a bit wide bit at the top. Even when I do 5 stiches I end up with about 10. Not quite got the knack yet.

  • Wut do we do after this step.??

  • @PeaceAndChink

You learn the Purl Stitch. Watch my video to see how to do it. Happy knitting.

  • do we just continue this pattern until we get the length of a scarf?

  • @ixWishingx3

yes. if you knit every row it's called garter stitch. this is a great stitch for a scarf.

  • =) im 13 and used to knit when i was like 6 i forgot and wanted to pick it up again! thanks so much! im kniting my little sisters doll a scarf!

  • @Emily4leafclover609

I'm so glad you started knitting again. How lucky for your little sister that you are knitting a doll's scarf for her. Please keep watching and please keep knitting.

  • @knittingtipsbyjudy thanks =) i am so excited now its really easy! you have one of the BEST knitting videos On ALL of youtube =)

  • @Emily4leafclover609

thanks for the nice comment. look for me on facebook too.

  • I started knitting a few weeks ago. As I was watching videos I realized it's normal to hold the yarn in the right hand; I developed the habit of holding it in my left. I checked, and I'm doing the stitches correctly with no extra wraps or twists.. just holding it weird compared to everyone else. Is this something I should start working on changing? I am very fluid at knitting and purling with the yarn held this way(finished my first hat tonight!) but will it have negative consequences later?

  • @my1namegoeshere

Everyone has their own way and whatever works for you is good. Nothing negative. Just keep doing what you're doing and have fun knitting. Thanks for writing. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • Thanks so much! Your videos are by far the best on the internet! I just had on question, though. I can do the casting on part just fine, but every time I try to switch which needle the yarn is on,(the knit stitch) I mess up and when the yarn ends up on the left side, it always ends up messed up and the stitches dont look very good. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks so much! Sierra

  • @sierrakaitlynn15

Oh my goodness. It sounds a mess. I hope you will watch my videos How to do the Knit Stitch and How to do the Purl Stitch. Do what I do and you'll be fine. Keep at it. Practice makes perfect!

  • I watched you purl stitch video after doing something where I used this stitch. however. the purl stitch seems to look the same as my knit stitch. I must have done something wrong. Could you link me an example of what the 2 will look like once about 5 rows are knitted or more. Just so i can determine if my stitches are coming out correctly.

  • @MidoriGal17

the knit side is flat, the purl side is bumpy. Watch my video on Stockinette Stitch. That shows both sides.

please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • the yarn between the needles always seems to get bigger and bigger as i progress through my stitches. By the time i get to the last stitch, I have all this left over yarn. How do I fix this?

  • I think I'm getting the hang of this after watching your videos. Great videos. Do you have a video on changing yarn? Because I have two things of yarn that I want to make a striped scarf with. Is it just me practicing or does it get easier to do the knit stitch as you make more row?

  • @MidoriGal17

it gets easier and easier, the more you knit. I do have a video on Adding color that should help you. Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • I am a 19 year old who wanted to learn how to knit, but none of the books I tried or youtube videos could explain it clearly. Within ten minutes of watching your videos, I understood it perfectly. Thank you so much!

  • @megaselph

I love getting comments like yours. Congratulations on learning. Please keep watching. New video today. Look for me on facebook too. Thanks.

  • At the :30 mark where you say "Push it down," I can't figure out what you're pushing it down through. It looks like a loop, but where did it come from? I've been trying to learn to do a knit stitch for two days now, and keep failing miserably. If only I could figure out how you got that loop that you push through in the video, maybe I could finally succeed. I've replayed this video over and over for almost two hours. I must be crazy.

  • @pokerjackal1

I hope you've gotten it by now. If not, go to my web-site where there are instructions and photos

    knittingtipsbyjudy

  • @pokerjackal1 - I have exactly the same problem, been trying to learn for 2 days and I have tried to pause it but I can't see where she is putting it the needle down too. I think I'd like to see it close up, and perhaps from a different angle. I am getting a bit annoyed that I can't seem to 'see it' unlike others. I don't know anyone who knits and so I have to keep trying. It looks easy when you get thehang of it tho.

  • Hi, can you please tell me what is the difference between "knit stitch" and "purl stitch?" Are they just different styles of stitches? And do you have any youtube videos that teach how to finished at the end? Thank you so much!!!!

  • @puisakura

the knit stitch and the purl stitch are different. watch my video on how to Purl and you'll see. When you ask how to end do you mean how to bind off? I have videos on that too. please keep watching, there's lots to learn. look for me on facebook too.

  • I started with 30 stitches when i casted on, is that okay? PLEASE RESPOND; THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!!

  • @siriwazhere

It doesn't matter how many stitches you start with. I assume this is just for practice.

If you're following a pattern you need to start with as many as the pattern calls for. Keep knitting, keep watching my videos, and look for me on facebook too.

  • i love this direction! it has been 3 years since my last scarf....i bought some gorgeous cashmere red yard to knit my husband a christmas scarf...i am sooo excited. thank you (: (: you made it real easy to get back into this...and it is like meditation. oh...is 43 enough for casting on making a scarf?

  • @mary5971

I'm so glad you started knitting again and what could be better than a hand knit red cashmere scarf! Please keep watching and look for me on facebook too.

  • i love this direction! it has been 3 years since my last scarf....i bought some gorgeous cashmere red yard to knit my husband a christmas scarf...i am sooo excited. thank you (: (: you made it real easy to get back into this...and it is like meditation.

  • Yeah, I tried this and my yarn broke...

  • @overdressedunderage

well, don't give up. keep trying.

  • I need serious help!!! I started out with thirty stitches and I did a couple of rows and I continued to have thirty stitches and then, out of no where, I counted again, and I had 32 stitches. I figured it was no big deal, until two rows later, I had 35 stitches, do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Can you tell me how to fix this?

  • @tiahnapan

you probably put the yarn around the needle to make an extra stitch so take it out and go back to where you had the right amount of stitches. go slow to make sure you don;t make the same mistake again. are you doing garter or stockinette stitch? don't worry, practice makes perfect!

  • I've wanted to learn how to knit for so long, and you've made it a cinch! Thanks! I'm just practicing at the moment, not really making anything. But my main goal is to make knitted/crocheted stuffed animals. You wouldn't happen to have any crochet videos would you? :)

  • @pusiwillow

I don't crochet, only knit. I suggest you start by making a scarf. That's good practice. Then watch my other videos on increasing and decreasing, which you will need to know when you make animals. Have fun knitting.

  • I've tried over and over to do what you're doing but it falls apart after I take the right needle off the ledt needle. So I have my cast on which is 81 sts. I then go to knit the stich like you're doing. I put my right needle in the loop, stick the needle behind the left, place the yarn exactly like you are doing, and push the right needle down. Then it just doesn't work out from there. I must be doing something wrong. Can you help?

  • @ShaMeelah2

try looking at the photos on my web-site and try going slow. sounds like you're doing it right so keep trying. once you get it it will be easy for you.

  • hi judy i really love your videos but i need to know how to add a new ball of yarn when your skein is over i was tying knts but now they are coming out =( i find no good videos out there

  • @STephy171

please watch my video HOW TO ADD YARN.

  • I have got to be the biggest idiot on earth. I keep watching videos of how to do this shit over and over but when they're like "Ta da, new knot!" I'm like... uh... nothing changed. Wtf.

  • @BlueSilverStars

don't be so hard on yourself. it's confusing at first, but please keep trying. you'll be glad you did. practice makes perfect.

  • My oh my, I have been trying to learn to knit for so long! I got books, watched dozens of videos, but I still could not wrap my head around it, until finally I found your videos. I have to thank you for taking the time to really show how to do the stitches slowly and giving great instruction! :)

  • @yusrafication

oh, so glad the video helped. please keep watching and learning. look for me on facebook too.

  • This made much more sense than some of the other videos I've watched..Thanks soo much..now got to 'practice, practice, practice'.lol

  • Perfect! Thank you. I learned the casting on and knit stitch years ago (more than 15 probably!) but I never could figure out where to go from there... Looking forward to your purl stitch vid!

  • @6butterflywings6

thanks for the note. hope you've watched and will continue to watch more videos. happy knitting.

    look for me on facebook.

  • finally!!!! harhar!! one question i have one pair of needles i found lying about and was like hey this could be fun... they're width 5 (?) do i need a thick wool coase mine seems to be going to tight for me to carry on or do i just need to practice?? also after knit stiching the whole row... how do i do more lol :D

  • @MissFluffyable

if the stitches are too tight use a thinner yarn. When you finish the row turn the work around and knit another row. Or Purl. Have you watched my video on How to do the Purl Stitch? Please keep watching and keep knitting.

  • Just what I needed! Thank you so much :)

  • @Deemom7

    thanks again!

  • excellent - so clear! thanks

  • @pauls1969

glad to help. please keep watching.

  • Could you please do a slower version of this. I still don't seem to be able to get it. Cast on slow version was AMAZING, I've finally be able to do that just need a little more help on this one and the pearl one. :)

  • @kmafreeman

maybe I'll do that in the future. Those videos were the first ones I ever made and I have learned a lot since then.
