I just found this track today, and before this i only knew the record speedfreak.. And i have to say. This record is amazing!! All the wannabee interesting music genius on you tube can bitch all they want. It's about the sound, not just the complexity of it.. And this sounds great. Excuse my crappy spelling
This album had such a huge influence on me at that particular stage of my life. I was in college in Cork, hanging out with a friend of mine. Chilling to Orbital. Good times.
i remeber buying this, taking the tape home, sittin in the car looking up at the clouds as they flew past the sun on this sunny april afternoon listening to this for the first time.... errrm....mind blowing, Orbital influences all of electronica still to this day, can't wait for the new album ive listened to "Never" which is off the new album and again Orbital have hit a home run awesome video, awesome sound, just f*&kin awesome
Arrgh I want to go raving for 6 months without stopping now! How dare they make such good music. Orbital are responsible for all the drug taking in the civilised world !!!
Still my favorite song of all time, an amazing song, to say the least. The In-Sides album is THE all time high point of electronic music. Yes, above Prodigy's Music for the Jilted Generation, Underworld's Second Toughest in the Infants and Dubnobasswithmyheadman, FSOL's ISDN and Lifeforms (the benchmarks outside of this, as far as I am concerned). Just simply an amazing album, and an amazinggggggg track.
I fallen in love with a red headed girl and have been listening to orbital non stop. This tune just sums up my happiness about her, plus I think the title's quite appropriate.
I do not know on what drugs you are listening to this, but we obviously don't have the same !.... 4 peoples so far didn't toock the right ones either !....
Wasn't a massive fan of this album as a whole but this track is beautiful, had this pretty much on loop for a year or two, brings back memories of listening to it on the school bus, it was roughly the same time as it took to get there!
@Faman2009 reminds me of of a girl in the story "all summer in a day" by ray bradbury.. they lived on venus and only one girl had ever lived on earth, so she was obsessed with seeing the sun again one day..
this is the first song i ever heard by orbital.i was really young.and my older brother had insides lying around the house...at the time i dont know what i thought of orbital, years later i havent found music that makes me more happier.
And why is it that certain music videos on YouTube tend to start these highly emotional debates, with people calling each other idiots and assholes, while others have people generally agreeing that they like it? Maybe that's what the best (and most innovative) music does: it polarizes people!
This is the happiest song I've ever heard. Correction: this is the happiest song that has ever existed. Period. I dare anyone to listen to this all the way through and not have a smile on their face by the end. I double dog dare you, motherfuckers.
@minggnim ..and fourth: Considering music is an art form and should be interpreted and evaluated by the individual listener based upon how it makes them feel; what makes you feel you have the right to tell everyone else which music is more worthy?
What is it about music that makes people so arrogant and opinionated? If Thai was your favourite food indulgence you wouldn't be joining Indian cuisine discussion forums to convince them that your choice in food is superior... or maybe you would.
@robt135utube I was there too! It was an Oscillate event also playing were HIA and Autechre. I also have very little memory of it, ha! ha! Got on Orbitals guest list - good times!
This is so sad and wistful; it's a bit of a tearjerker really. When the central section becomes very active and forceful it's a lot more cheerful, but the end still seems to imply something good that's gone forever.
As a tribute to a deceased friend, the Hartnolls couldn't have written it any better. Moving stuff.
I still remember the very moment I heard this song for the first time. Had bought the CD in spring but never got around listening to it. Had surgery and was out for a while. Got back out, out into god's biggest playground. My first time doing a 14er without painkillers ... an incredible winter day ... sunshine ... endless blue sky ... colorado ... and then by accident popped this one in as the first sony on my way back. Guess this song will be forever in the soundtrack to my life.
@incunabula5 don't dis dead mouse or Lady Gaga for that matter, totally different worlds, Orbital's great, ok, let's leave it at that. Does there always have to be someone to shit on in place of the greats? If so you've chosen poorly, both DeadMau5 and Gaga are extremely talented in their own right. There are way less talented shlocks in the industry, you however chose two of the few that remain self skilled and self inspired. thank you try again.
Great track. This album (Insides) was the first album I ever bought. Cant believe it still works. Without doubt the most played album I own. I HAD to listen to this, P.E.T.R.O.L., The Box & Adnans before I went to school / on my lunch break & as soon as I got home. Thought provoking dance music at its very best.
@PatsyBailey I so agree my friend, this won't never be a has been because impossible to re do the same feeling, I did the same thing as you with my vinyl copy of " the Brown album", but fortunately i can still listen to it because so carefully with that treasure. may be Orbital could do it again, but no one else .. that's for sure. By the way did you listened to " the gun is good'?? just a strike in my head.....
walking into HMV in 1994 hearing "Forever" from Snivilisation I knew I'd hit on a life changing musical moment... I have every album, single, promo, white label, CD released by Orbital... They helped me though 15 years of good times and bad times... When I can't think of anything else to listen to in the world I know Halcyon will always put a smile on my face... I cannot thank you enough for that song alone... Raising my glass to you both... Phil & Paul...
@flipflopflappppppppp Weird, I did similar with Crash & Carry (although it was Our Price), and to be fair, I'd already bought the Radiccio EP. But still...
The tape of this album was in my car stereo for so long that I wondered if I would ever take it out. Stuck it on auto reverse and played it over and over until the tape stretched, when this album was released I didn't need any other music for ages. Pure brilliance.
As a fan of their previous albums, I came to this one and thought "they've sold out, it's fucking awful", after a couple more listenings, it's probably their best album, I dunno, I just like most of their stuff, this one remains pretty fuckin cool.
Like so many of the comments, yeah, this album remains one of my favourites of all time. I don't even listen to electronic music any more these days, but Orbital will always have a huge place in my heart. <3 <3 <3
Hard to believe this album is 15 years old now, Bought when it first came out and i can easily say that this is one of my favorite albums of all time.
@bluerhythm8 That's probably the most clever out of all the "dislike bar" comments I've ever heard. And yeah, I find it hard to believe you could dislike this song!
constuction, this song along with so many others by Obitalan ear and voice of our epoque! Can you imagine any other band being capable of rendering such a true definition of what we all live in... no words we don't need pollution just listen to the blood following....
just listen to the perfection around 5:05. How come this gathering of old synthersizer sound gives me goosebumbs every single time i listen to it? Would F*** this song if only it was possible
nearly all the music i had back then was on ever degrading mixtapes, all lost and turned to dust from overuse. thank god for the tube and people like all you
I wish they played this or any sort of old school electronic music in clubs instead of all this commercial hip hop/pop shite it just doesn't do owt for me! I wish I could live through the 90's rave era. I'm gonna blaim my parents for not conceiving me earlier lmao
@SpasticRapist23 I agree entirely! I WAS there however and it was the best clubbing experience ever. There was a freedom about the variety of tunes you'd hear too. Not such pigeon-holeing of themed nights like 'House' or 'Trance' it was just great music! However some of those memories are a bit blurry! Say no more.... :0)
i just don't get it... what is wrong with the music nowadays? people just get influenced to easily by this pop crap they show you on tv! its like they dont even want to shape their own musical taste. its a shame really.
@MrMushroom123 : it's been going downhill for a while, now. All we can hope for is this era of disposable music to run its course so music can go back to being art first, product second. I've seen a bunch of comments on You Tube from younger listeners, espousing something to the extent of "I missed this generation of music - it's so honest, 90's music rocks!" That makes me smile and gives me hope.
@minggnim The entire decade of music sucked, huh? I'll tell you what sucks, your music collection. The 90's produced TONS of great music: De La Soul, Soundgarden, The Orb, Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, DJ Shadow, Tribe Called Quest, The Pixies, Aphex Twin, Yo-La-Tengo, Squarepusher.....etc, etc, etc.
@minggnim: Look, no one's saying that those bands weren't pioneers in their own right. But, if that's the stuff you listen to, why the hell are you commenting on an Orbital song (or music in general)? Go listen to the radio. You'll be much happier.
@MrMushroom123 theres always been mainstream pop that's shite. but back then there was a healthy independent scene and unfortunately because of economic problems that's just not sustainable anymore. of course music is still being made but you just have to look harder for it and not wait till someone has to tell you its ok to like it.
For me, this is seriously one of the best pieces of electronic music ever made. Tears, memories, life, music that goes straight into the heart, music is the best time machine...thanks a million for uploading! :o)
when i first heard this it reminded me of ray bradbury's short story "all summer in a day" where this colony of people live on venus and the sun comes only once every 7 years! and this one girl is the only one who's seen the sun before so all the kids are jealous of her :(
@starsweet4 Actually, theres one girl who didn't sing any songs about fun or games, and only the sun. She had lived on earth, and she longed to see it, to feel it again, but when the Scientists predicted there was going to be sun, her peers locked her in a closet because she didn't fit in. The sun came out and all the students went out in the sun with such joy, they would stare at the sun until their eyes teared and play like never before. Only when the sun is gone they realize she was left out
I first heard this record from a friend back when I was 15 or 16. It blew my mind back then, and it still blows my mind now. My music serves as the soundtrack to my life, and this album hits me on so many different levels. I bought a used copy of the US 2-CD edition for $8. This album is in my Top 5 All-Time Favorities, along with Kraftwerk's "Computer World", Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration" and Black Flag's "Damaged".
The first time I heard this song and the album was when I was 9. It sure as hell influenced my development.

I wish they played this or any sort of old school electronic music in clubs instead of all this commercial hip hop/pop shite it just doesn't do owt for me! I wish I could live through the 90's rave era. I'm gonna blaim my parents for not conceiving me earlier lmao
SpasticRapist23 1 year ago 5
@SpasticRapist23 I agree entirely! I WAS there however and it was the best clubbing experience ever. There was a freedom about the variety of tunes you'd hear too. Not such pigeon-holeing of themed nights like 'House' or 'Trance' it was just great music! However some of those memories are a bit blurry! Say no more.... :0)

i just don't get it... what is wrong with the music nowadays? people just get influenced to easily by this pop crap they show you on tv! its like they dont even want to shape their own musical taste. its a shame really.
is it just me or is everything going downhill?

@MrMushroom123 : it's been going downhill for a while, now. All we can hope for is this era of disposable music to run its course so music can go back to being art first, product second. I've seen a bunch of comments on You Tube from younger listeners, espousing something to the extent of "I missed this generation of music - it's so honest, 90's music rocks!" That makes me smile and gives me hope.
littleshovel 7 months ago
@littleshovel 90's music sucked. You're right about one thing though, it's been going downhill for a while... since the late 70's .
minggnim 7 months ago
@minggnim The entire decade of music sucked, huh? I'll tell you what sucks, your music collection. The 90's produced TONS of great music: De La Soul, Soundgarden, The Orb, Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, DJ Shadow, Tribe Called Quest, The Pixies, Aphex Twin, Yo-La-Tengo, Squarepusher.....etc, etc, etc.
littleshovel 6 months ago
@littleshovel Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles...!
minggnim 6 months ago
@minggnim: Look, no one's saying that those bands weren't pioneers in their own right. But, if that's the stuff you listen to, why the hell are you commenting on an Orbital song (or music in general)? Go listen to the radio. You'll be much happier.
littleshovel 6 months ago
@minggnim are you 51 years old? lmao
bikenutter1 3 months ago
@bikenutter1 Fuck, I'm getting there. 18 year olds today? Their mouths are locked onto one another's genitals in a rotating fashion.
When you were 18, you would have had sex with 2 people.
An eighteen year old today had sex with 40 people, and maybe a football team on the side.
True free love.
If you don't want a future, and if you wear a condom, snag that 18 year old.
She'll remember, but she won't attach any importance to it. Oh, that was Thursday.
No shit.

@MrMushroom123 theres always been mainstream pop that's shite. but back then there was a healthy independent scene and unfortunately because of economic problems that's just not sustainable anymore. of course music is still being made but you just have to look harder for it and not wait till someone has to tell you its ok to like it.

@PatsyBailey
Just glad there are people out there who still love this stuff.
I'll never forget this album- partly due to the era of my life but mostly due to its brilliance.

when i first heard this it reminded me of ray bradbury's short story "all summer in a day" where this colony of people live on venus and the sun comes only once every 7 years! and this one girl is the only one who's seen the sun before so all the kids are jealous of her :(
starsweet4 1 year ago 2
@starsweet4 Actually, theres one girl who didn't sing any songs about fun or games, and only the sun. She had lived on earth, and she longed to see it, to feel it again, but when the Scientists predicted there was going to be sun, her peers locked her in a closet because she didn't fit in. The sun came out and all the students went out in the sun with such joy, they would stare at the sun until their eyes teared and play like never before. Only when the sun is gone they realize she was left out

@SourPuddle yeah i know.. i just didn't wanna write out the whole story, so i summarized it :)

@SourPuddle the song title just made me think of the girl in that story.. and the song's moody atmosphere fits the story as well

In my book, you know an artist is a genius and their music is classic if it gives you goose bumps every time you hear it . :-)
