Eddie the "ENTERTAINER" He was something!.. First pro player I saw live 62-63 season he came out first for the warm up! He was playing for the Leafs vs. Hawks... Hawks won the game 6 to 0, Bobby Hull scored a hat trick..Awesome, remember it like yesterday!
Back then, CBC's "Hockey Night In Canada" would go on the air at 9 P.M. EST during the regular season, in-time for the start of the second period.
Only during the playoffs would HNIC come-on for the opening faceoff.
I don't think Rangers games were televised locally in New York that year. WOR-TV (later WWOR) began picking up some Saturday away games a few years later.
Was this Foster Hewitt on play-by--play or his son Bill??
A couple years ago I was at a leafs game at the acc and some dumbass yank started talking shit about the leafs which progressed to him talking about canada which result in a bloody face for him.... good times
I thought I had seen a Rangers clip from the 60's in which they were wearing blue at home, and here there is no doubt that the Leafs are wearing blue at home. I was under the impression that until just a few years ago the home teams always wore white. Can somebody give me a sort of timeline for when the teams wore colored/white jerseys at home/away?
@rb62470 originally it was the home team that wore colors. i think the nhl went to home team wearing white in the mid 60s. then i guess about 5 years ago the nhl went back to the original idea of home team wearing colors again.
@germxv Thanks for the reply. I left a similar comment on another 50's/early 60's NHL video, and somebody told me they started wearing white at home in '71 but didn't mention when they went back to wearing colors at home...Then just a few days ago, on a Ron Duguay bio on tv, I saw a late 70's clip of the Rangers in blue playing the Penguins in yellow, so I guess there were exceptions here and there along the way.
UncleMikeNJ- I was looking for the same fight, Lou is my grandfather. The fight has been preserved, I seen it years back. I cant believe its not up here! Did you know Gordie had broken ribs after that fight and that Lou had already broke his nose 6 previous times. There was nothing left to break just looked like a murder from all the blood!
Is this the earliest preserved-from-TV NHL fight? I know there was a 1959 fight where Gordie Howe turned Lou Fontinato's nose into a crescent moon at the old Madison Square Garden, which is what I was looking for when I found this. I guess that one wasn't preserved.
Headlocks? Going into the stands? This one had EVERYTHING!

@altfactor: The Toronto play-by-play was done by Foster's son Bill through the 1960s, until he retired in the early 1980s.
