The main thrust here seems not to be that the theory is flawed, but that the practice thereof is flawed. I, personally, am lazy, and would be perfectly happy to sign over my property and freedoms to someone in return for them taking care of me, PROVIDED I could trust them. Therein lies the problem. Socialism as a theory is great, in fact, I consider it better than the theory of capitalism. However, there is no way for it to be successfully instituted. Thus in practice, capitalism is better.

Oppressing the working-class has nothing to do with communism/socialism AT ALL. What, I might ask you, did John Locke say about free market capitalism? I doubt you've read any of the founding works on free-market capitalism. Let me help: it works as long as there is enough free land for anyone to CHOOSE to be their own boss. It has failed in all cases.
