If Kobe can average between 1800-2000 pts for the next five seasons, he'll break Kareem's all time scoring record. At age 33, it will be difficult for #8 to continue to perform at a peak level for five more seasons. However, if there is anyone who can accomplish this feat, it's certainly Kobe. The man has the mind and determination only few ever possessed in the NBA. It'll be interesting to see if can do it.
Rubberwilbur: There is more to life than basketball. Kareem has written two best selling books...how many NBA players can match that? He is an expert on jazz music. His post NBA career is just fine and it's just not limited to the NBA or sports.
Kareem is an introvert and that has hurt is post NBA career. George Forman was also an introvert (watch Rumble in the Jungle), but he recreated himself into an extroverted marketing machine and multi-millionaire. I'm not saying how Kareem lived his life is wrong, but the way he participated with people during his career damaged a lot of opportunities in the NBA and other venues. It is what it is.
Kareem is one of the final testaments in the beuaty of the NBA. Only appearing with the greatest and most composed demeanor. Reaching into philosophy of the game, and making a wonderul presence. SInce his retirement, I no logner follow the NBA.
i agree with the above post. the nba game has steadily decreased in character and fundamentals. how many nba ball players can talk as intelligently as the cap did. just wondering how many tattoos the championship teams of the 80s have? the era of smart intelligent and honorable basketball players has passed us by. these guys were professionals not overpaid rap star premadonnas the are now.
basketball used to be a profession. its a money making showcase of basketball of 3 pointers and slam dunks. the rules are not enforced and fundamentals are not stressed. yes i agree with u that there are certain players that still have the respect of the game and i am greatful for that. But nba players were men back in the day now we have over-payed youngsters that can dunk with ego's too big for my taste. dont get me wrong i still love the game but not as much as i used too
Kareem is extremely intelligent. He was also very spiritual and philosophical as well. I think Bruce Lee had a big influence on how he lived his life. Kareem was so graceful in the game he mastered. And his skyhook is to this date, the most unstoppable shot in basketball history. As far as his all time scoring record goes, there's the old chiche. "Records are made to be broken".
in my opinion he is one of the best, I think Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest NBA center of all time, never the less he is one of the greats and would eat shaq for breakfast. (even though I have deep respect for Shaq)
I was particularly touched by this considering that I also fool around with Afro-percussion for my own entertainment. I find that it adds to my flava quotient.

Kareem. A true legend. He'd school any current NBA player today, and that's a fact. One of the best basketball players, if not the best, of all time.
And Chick. He's a legend as well, and is sorely missed.

I read four of his books. I like him as a person, not just a basketball player.

Chick is a treasure along with Kareem being a well spoken athlete. This is something to behold and a way to feel like time is standing still.
