I studied with James Stamp for four years in the mid 60's. He would have me hold the trumpet mouthpiece with just thumb and index finger to prevent too much pressure. Sometimes he'd put a toothpick inbetween my index and second finger to keep me from clamping down with what he called the "death grip" At the lessons he would always be sitting at the baby grand piano guiding me through the notes. Play along with your right hand on the piano to prevent the pitch from sliding around.
I've been using the stamp book (on trumpet) for about a week and I'm liking the results so far. I use it in conjunction with the BERP (in order to minimize mthp. pressure and gain the right horn angle). Also, the Stamp accompaniment is great for matching pitches.
Can you please give the notes for it I play French horn too

Did doing these exercises help your overall tone and efficiency on the horn. by this i mean "first attacks" and just an over all tone production?

how do u get that buzz?
susi330 4 years ago
I'm not quite sure of your question, but:
I vibrate my lips into the mouthpiece.
For the specific sound, I try to relax as much as possible, and generate the pitch I'm looking for with the least possible effort.
I hope this answers your question.
