i use shure mm47 needles. I had some stanton scratch needles but the shures piss all over them. either clean the needle and set your tone arm up correctly or buy some shure needles as they in my opinion the best for scratching with. hectic
Hey dude, I know this is kind of a stupid question, but the belt on my belt drive turntable is broken so it won't move. Can i still scratch on it if the needle is in place?
dude i dont wanna sound nasty, but like if you got the internet you can find out all this stuff yourself...and if you dont ur just lazyt init. Search the web
No matter how good you are at beat matching, you ain't a DJ if you can't scratch! I seem to remember that was in a certain 90's film!! Your vid is fantastic for the novice scratcher, which indeed I am!! Thanks and keep up the good work!!
im interested in learning how to scratch and get into djing, and was wondering if u cud message me giving me some tips about how to get started and useful gear to start out wiv. gd vid mate (Y) really clear to understand, wb
anti skate should be set to 0 for scratching, so thats my first advice. And as for calibrating the tone arm there is a specific way you need to do that for your cartridge, hopefully ill do a tutorial on this soon, you could also blu-tack a small coin to the top of your cartridge to prevent skipping. Peace Hectic
i find tears really fucking hard to get down, my hand either seems to want to pull it back too quick or just pull it back straight, i get them right half the time but do you have any tips on learning them?
practise is the main key....i dont use them that much when i am scratching...but to get them sounding how i did, i did spend a lot of time when i was at work just doing the motion on my desk....people may give you funny looks but what the hell...gives you like 7.5 hours of good practise time and get paid for it!
hey hectic good video. i just got into dj'ing. could you help me understand how scratches might ruin records or the needle becuz i have no clue thanks cheers
well you need to buy specific scratch records for scratching, i recommend any skip proof scratch record. As for needle damaging your records, well i wouldnt worry about this to much, just make sure you have your tone arm set up correctly, so there is not to much down force on the needle. Hope this all makes sense and thanks for watching
Glad this video helped you out, gonna do a new tutorial covering the scratch I used in my latest video "How to scratch hardcore scratching" check it out for some fader scratching moves. Peace Hectic
I'm a very amature as well I just started and i really wanna get into scratching, i love the sound and i love the way that u gotta be actually skilled to do it! could you message me back with some more pointers? and what kinda gear you recommend? thanks,
just using one turntable to scratch with, and not using the x-fader at all......hence the name faderless scratches lol. Hope this clears things up for you.
using my laptop. connected to the line output. This is a flash looper, which i got off of the internet. if you want it mail me your email. peace hectic
thankyou, you know some dickheads out there diss my videos, i may only be amature but try and share the knowledge in simple easy to follow terms init. Well please do check my other vids out too! Thanks
This video is great! I've been mixing for about a year now, and always wanted to scratch, but my mixer doesn't have a crossfader curve. This will hopefully let me get some practice in before I upgrade to a better mixer :) Keep up the great work!
Do you own any scratch records? If your just trying to use a normal vinyl you will never get these sounds, you need to use specific scratch vinyls. let me know what records you use. Peace Hectic
Excellent tutorial on scratching! I just started scratching as a hobby, and I have watched many videos on how to perform various scratches. You really do a nice job of being patient, breaking the scratches down to their basic components, and explaining things in a logical way. Thanks! Your videos have been VERY helpful!
It was really doing in my head not being able to scratch so once I learnt it, just thought id share the knowledge in a nice and easy way to follow. Thanks for watching, im looking to post more tutorials soon. Thanks!
Hey man I just got a Gemini TT02 (direct drive) and Behringer VMX100 mixer. Got that setup with my Roland SP-404 sampler and midi controller. I was just wondering where i can get some decent break/sample vinyls? I've ordered superseal from decks.couk but they don't have much else. Any recommendations for soem vinyls to get started from? nice vids, there helping a lot. peace, lozz.
man, prob best thing to do to save a few quid is search the internet for FLASH LOOPERS people make funky breaks via flash and loop the break, most are free to download, but this does mean hooking a PC/laptop to your mixer using a 2RCA lead to 1 headphone. Plug this in the line and run it through that. hope this helps!
Hey man, i saw your post, a good place to look up such recods is dot htfr dot com a particular good one i have is called Nuclear Breaks - Dj Clear i think. just look on that site and search for mix tools/battle records or scratch samples. you will find them.
i can scratch with my right hand and use fader with left hand, But its the old way of scratching when rave was out round about 1992 if you know wot i mean. its still pritty good, But i wana be able to crab scratch and all that, I can use the fader better with my right hand than my left, But using my left hand on the record part of it is a lot harder than useing my right, LOL, Its doing my head in. Any tips? Cheers m8
Practise is the key, thats all i can really say, you may find after time everything just clicks into place. For crab practise jus tap a desk all day long in a crab motion, you will get it soon enough just practise man.
Thanks alot, This video has helped me alot. I have watched it like 10 times and everytime i do I practice for an hour after. Thanks and keep the vids comin!!
Yo djslimjimsa im happy that these tutorials are helping you out. I should be doing another scratching vid to a dance beat showing how to use scratches in combos today. So just keep watching this space thanks! :)
Yo this was really good....for someone who really wants to start getting in the Scratching GAME....this is some good stuff man...thanks a lot Hectic! You've inspired me to get out there and TRY it!
Im really glad to hear that :) I thought scratching was impossible but once i figured some moves out, time to share some knowledge. Just remeber nothing is impossible with a bit of practise!
I own x2 technic 1210's and im using a vestax pmc05 pro mixer. Most importantantly the needles im using are shure MM47s which i really recommend for scratching! I have a laptop which i connect to the LINE of my mixer to play loops on. Doing this through a 2 RCA lead into one headphone jack. hope that helps man!
yeah no problems man, if you check me DJ Scratch Tutorial you will see im using an oldskool dance beat. Im gonna do another vid soon using some House dance tunes....so watch this space!!!!

StlyeFree 2 years ago
its like impossible to scratch on belt drives anyway becuase the record takes to long to speed back up
DJXPOSE2K8 2 years ago
I think it depends on the turntable cause mine used to work fine.
