LOL, I love how Baskerville's wearing horn-rimmed eyeglasses (found that out on Muppet Wiki, and when he turns to the side at 3:10 you can see they're glasses)
@sonicruler200 -- 1RichardHunt has the answers, but in case we lose his comments, everal muppets went through various changes and that is Guy Smiley with just an earlier name. Cookie Monster and Grover were both green at one point too.
The two anything muppets would later be renamed in the year. Lucy would later become Betty Lou, and the name of Jim Henson's character was changed to Guy Smiley. The name "Sonny Friendly" was given a decade later to a lavender muppet host performed by Richard Hunt.
@1RichardHunt Wait if Jim and Frank played Betty Lou (Lucy Jones) , Baskerville and Guy Smiley (Sonny Friendly) does that mean Carroll Spinney puppeteered Little Bird and BDM to Jim and Frank's vocal track (Carroll Spinney usually supplied puppetry for the characters Jim and Frank would do)
@1RichardHunt Why would it matter 1RichardHunt? In the first season there were only three puppeteers (Jim, Frank, and of course Carroll) so it would only make sense that there would have to have been a third puppeteer to perform Little Bird and BDM and that puppeteer would be Carroll, besides Jim and Frank only have two hands each so there is no way that they could perform those contestants sitting in their booths
I really hate beautiful day monster #3 when I was a kid. When he raises his eyebrows up really high, he looks so scary. I still don't like him. I didn't even like the choice she made. Guy Smiley is right, he's a big horrible monster, he could eat her right off.
He could, but he won't, for all his fearsome looks Beautiful Day is also a friendly monster (tho I think he does like scaring Guy Smiley in another sketch.)
@PandaMishima How can Beautiful Day be a friendly monster if he likes scaring Guy Smiley and showing his fearsome looks on another sketch with Kermit the frog for the letter "B"? I still don't like the monster after all these years.
Well. BD isn't my favorite either; still he does keep his scary level in context, more like a little kid who loves to see his mom or sister scream over a rubber spider. When Betty Lou called him beautiful he could be quite friendly. Guess it's how you look at it.
I'm sure most people watching this know already, but for those that don't- Frank Oz voices the announcer, Lucy, Doggie, and Beautiful Day Monster (#3).
Hmmm. I wonder if Sonny Friendly was inspired by Buster Friendly? (Google it if you don't get it).
I just love the way the monster glowers and glowers, but then when the game show people insult him, he raises his eyebrows up really high. He looks so sad...
This was the very first game show, from 1970. I always loved this one and remember it well. It teaches us to love and accept one another even though we may not look beautiful to others. Very well thought out skit.
People need to keep on posting these great classic Sesame Street clips! With that said does anybody else have the clip with David and the little girl tying her saddle shoe's laces? It just was recently pulled. Please repost it if possible Thanks!
Many years later, a *second* game-show host muppet came along... and his name became Sonny Friendly. Shorter, fatter... red hair, if I remember correctly.
@raposofan Yeah, btw I love "Sunshine Again" it's like a mix of the old SS and the Electric Company, never seen it though, but I think your show was created by a bunch of Elmo haters, you can't just start putting down Elmo, he kept the show fresh, it's just the fact that his commercialization and popularity took over and made him the star of the show. Ticklish red anything, lol
actually the girl is lady gaga. so you can see why she likes her "little monsters" now.

I don't recall seeing this before on Sesame Street, but it's a very good way to teach children not to judge others solely on their appearance.

I would have picked number 3-without the blindfold!

I can identify the performers here:
Sonny Friendly, Little Bird - Jim Henson
Announcer, Lucy, Baskerville, Monster - Frank Oz
The two anything muppets would later be renamed in the year. Lucy would later become Betty Lou, and the name of Jim Henson's character was changed to Guy Smiley. The name "Sonny Friendly" was given a decade later to a lavender muppet host performed by Richard Hunt.
