It is suppose to be a pastiche of 60's iconography and a story inspired by the lyrics of Beatles songs. The characters are all based on names and persons in Beatles songs. Hell, even Jude looks like a young Paul McCartney. This movie can't be anything either than what it is. It's a musical based on Beatles songs. Can't have the movie without the songs.
