Alright all of you Lowrey experts. I just bought a lovely Lowery Holiday Deluxe with Magic Genie (Leslie Speakers?) and I have GOT to get a hold of the manual. How do I play this lovely creature????
The main reason Lowrey is America's number one home organ is the fact that Lowrey put all of the other American home organ manufactures out of business.
I've got one of these I bought used back in the early '80s. Sounds great but 1 of the rhythm tabs is broken (have to have a toothpick under it or it will continue to play) and the bass seems to either have something loose or a torn speaker cone (distortion). Other than that it sounds great! Love the Leslie!! :))
You're right. It is a late 70's Model D-325 Holiday. He shoud use the Strings (Symphonic) with the flutes and fire up that Leslie. It's a 5 channel organ and one of my favorites from that era.
I have a Lowrey Symphonic Holiday, also with a Leslie in it. It still sounds great after 30+ years, and the chorus and strings are so lush. I prefer it over most Hammonds.
I saw a Lawrence Welk edition Lowrey at a DAV store a few years back; it had a wrap-around console with five manuals and was designed to be placed right in the corner of the room against two adjoining walls. It had to be one of the nicest home organs I have ever seen.
I have a Lowrey MX-1 (1980) and that thing is awesome...it's a monster and has a super rich sound, Sure its not a Hammond but there are sounds on a MX-1 that a Hammond can't even do if it wanted to.
but if you look in the book it shws you how to get a jazz organ sound on it and i have a boss rt-20 guitar pedal so when i put it through that it sounds like a leslie so it can sound almost like one of the presets on a hammond
I have worked for Lowrey Organ for 30 years. You can't go by this video. The new technology in today's Lowrey will blow you away. We are right now the number one home organ in the USA.
Don't count Lowreys out. I prefer Conns, like Hammonds too, but Lowreys have lots of great sounds not heard in this brief vid. For what it's worth, the Lowrey in this dark video appears to be a D325 Deluxe Holiday, introduced around 1978, not 1972.
You're absolutely right about the model; I used to sell Lowrey Organs in the late 70's and early 80's. I still think it's about the best pre-microprocessor spinet organ they built, wonder 3-channel strings.
Cool

Okay, we know it can kick ass at the ballpark or in the skatng rink. But how about the 'angry hornet' sound ala Egg, Soft Machine, Caravan? Well????

This organ is not a 1972 model, it is a late 1970's model, possibly early 1980s.

I always liked the D325 solid little organ for sure. This person didn't tap anywhere near its capabilities.

@JonasLoverNumber1
I have a Holiday Deluxe from 1972, it's not working 30 years now, it's in my room as a show case.
The only manuals I recall is a simple mary had a little lamb type of song book and something else, but quite simple.

Older organs sound a lot better than the new digital "GM" sampleplayers. They all sound the same, and are oh so boring.

the '60s gibson organs were made by lowrey (largely from farfisa parts) and marketed through Chicago Musical Instruments. just for fun!

Interesting, I've never heard a Lowrey organ before. I think it's safe to say though, they got nothin' on a Hammond! :)
