For the amateur or seasoned race fan having a virtual look at what these technical advanced marvels have to endure, you gain a respect for what the engineers, mechanics, and drivers need to deal with.
The old Edmonton wasn't the greatest layout, but this one excites me. Lots of high speed areas that end under hard breaking, plenty of good spots for close racing, and then tight areas where they will have to single out. Looks like a fun track.
This new Edmonton track layout looks quite interesting, quite a number of passing opportunities from what I can see, which is always nice! Hope it'll be another great race! I would love to watch this race live, since it could happen in a few years time! :D
The virtual lap needs to be totally re-done. It 'shift' from "in-car" and "out of car" absolutely does not match up at all... PLUS! The shifting of the simulation was "non-realistic." Yes, it did show the basic "track layout" but, I can get that from a simple "Sat. photograph." Sorry, but you guy have you work cut out for you. Thanks, ezp323
There are two city airports that are the race tracks in open wheel racing: Edmonton City Centre Airport in Canada as part of IndyCar series and Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport in the United States as part of defunct ChampCar division.
Real Racing isn't cheap. If you are not interested in the competitive side of real racing then iRacing isn't for you ( you probably couldn't handle the let down of finding out you actually suck at running a racing line and can't commit to learning the dynamics of racing). Whats the cost of Go-carting? Whats the cost of building a purpose built car? Whats a season of Autocross or lapping registrations worth? iRacing is cheaper then any form of real racing and is a great supplement.
@fugudacat Thumbs up. I've heard nowadays, in terms of "gaming" experience, there's one racing simulator, which is exactly iRacing, and that's it. All the rest of them are arcades. Well, that's what I've heard...I'll have to check it out much more thoroughly, because....I don't know all racing games (I know a lot of them, but not all). =P
All of you guys complaining that iRacing is so expensive! If you bought 3 Xbox or PC games a year brand new you will be paying 150.00 easy. Sign up for iRacing at 99.00 and they give you 30.00 in credits and the tracks and cars are 12-15.00 dollars and you only buy what you need. you could literally race the basic content for more then a few seasons because the competition is that good. Have you ever gone racing?
@erasetoimprove Well, that's because they've laser scanned every track in order to recreate it down to the MILLIMETER. You get what you pay for, and it's worth the money if you care about realism.
@erasetoimprove Just get the indycar, talladega and indianapolis..trust me it's worth the money, they give charlotte for free which is used for the indycars. It's very fun and extremely realistic...try driving a nationwide car around daytona you can feel each bump and your hand will hurt.
@viper2131 I already have what they give free of extra charge, but the fact of the matter is a handful of tracks and cars is not enough to keep my interest. Typically in an online racing game I will race on dozens of different tracks and a good amount of different series. I still play R-Factor and I'm all over the place on there. Paying for the tracks and cars separately is just asking too much i.m.o, especially to a typical middle class guy. It's a great game, but not worth all that money.
This would be a much better video if it was actually a true lap, not a directors cut version of a lap. Would have preferred if they had stayed in the drivers view position for the whole thing, not a small section as that, then a cut back to the start of that section with some retarded camera effects.
I appreciate the concept, but true race fans would prefer something that wasn't bastardized by an overzealous director.
Is it just me or does the thought of 26 cars going 180mph into a that last hairpin sound dangerous for the fans? I know it's just a virtual lap but if the grandstands are that close to the track, all it takes is for one driver to miss their braking point and go right over the top of another car and hurdle right towards the chalet.
When can I get this track on iRacing? ;)

Good fan video to build buzz prior race weekend. Quality of the clip is very good. Keep making these virtual laps as fan build up tool every race.
Virtual Laps is often seen in European motor racing websites and im glad to see now Indy doing it as well

I like the new layout but i don't think that, aside from the first corner and the hairpins, there are much places to overtake someone..
Let's hope i'm wrong :)

@BrookssRobinsonn theres probbaly a big catch fence with tire barriers there. it'd be stupid not to have one.
