Of course he isn't any more, Amy Rose was chosen to be the "damsel"-esque character in Sonic CD and Tails was changed to be male and referred to as "Miles" in Sonic 2(Genesis/MegaDrive) I see people make an authoritarian statement about a game they barely know about the development of, and smug people saying "Tails was never a girl" without knowing the history of the character. Tails never looked like a girl. If you think that, then you must think Bart Simpson is a girl. He's not. The characters are only voiced by women and because they haven't hit puberty.

You act like you know so much about "classic video game icons from the 80's and the 90's" yet you don't seem to know that the original design for Tails wasn't named "Miles" and was meant to fill in a "damsel in distress" character archetype(usually filled by women) in Sonic 2(the GameGear version, which surprisingly came out first). But you probably don't know this, judging by your name I'd wager that your first game was Sonic & Knuckles and you're under 16.
