I have played cRPG's for 25 years and worked for a decade in the games industry. I think I know what I am talking about more than a modern gamer who couldn't tell a real cRPG from an Action Adventure!

Mine won't install on my new computer. a file got corrupted or something on the disk. Geez i miss it. Killing random peasants and taking their stuff really releases stress hehe
This games stays fresh in my collection as it is really quite good. It didn't take long into the game before it ceased being a diablo clone and started to stand on its own. And it stood very well. The name and box art likely hindered this games acceptance far more than they should have. While there are lots of caveats that this game adds or tweaks, the writing is very well done and humorous.

Counter-Strike looks like Half Life because they use the same engine, but the gameplay is totally different (one is an online action shooter and the other is an action shooter with some bits of driving and else)...

@BillyCauseyjr i played sacred gold and i liked it at first but then it got boring, and repetitive. the quests are all basically the same and not much fun building character either

@floriasn It does, but contrary to what war3ro said, it's the second in the series. Beyond Divinity was a DD spin-off, a side game that has no real strict need of playing.
Though I'd recommend it for DD fans. It staved off so much boredom when I completed DD like 5 times.
@war3ro Yes I know, but when do you see any of that in RPG trailers? Look at Dragon Age, with it's incredibly bloody battle and heavy metal music trailers! But in the game, where was the heavy metal music? Having said that, Dragon Age is like Oblivion if Oblivion had enforced fast travel, very little 'exploration; in Dragon Age compared with either Oblivion or the Divinity series - surely a pre-requisite for what should be called an RPG!
If you bought this full price when it game out, you are probably not happy to know the game has been patched up to 1.4A...... Because the patch is only available exclusively in the GOG/Impulse digital versions for $5.99! $5.99 for a patch - great to be a PC gamer isn't it! :(

The description states "classic rpg", and what i saw was a hack'n'slash, which is not the same thing, frankly, they were quite apart years ago. And since i've never played Divine Divinity i find it misleading.
Diablo didn't copied anything from the Ultima series, it's actually based on Rogue and Roguelikes, just more fastpaced, action oriented, easier to play and with a Graphical engine instead of the Ascii one that most of it's "parent" games use. That made it more appealing to computer-kitties (no offense intended).
Now day the "hack&slash" genre or "ARPG", you name it, made its own style but still, it's roots are on Rogue and Roguelikes.
Divine Divinity has rich sprite graphics and a unique touch.
@KevinLounsberry DS1 and 2 were hack fests, Very little in the way of character stats, very little way in a story, very little in the way of outside quests..... It was the 'World in Conflict' of RTS's. World in Conflict is closer to being an isometric FPS than an RTS, but it is called an RTS. Command and Conquer is a real RTS. So DS1 and 2 were called RPG's but when you look at the game features you see little in the way of RPG features.
dungeon seige 2 was realy one of the best because it gives u controle on loading and saving ur game that will give u a chance of enchanting ur weapon in the way u like without loosing charms
only from camera perspective and that you have to kill monsters. which would mean half of the games available are diablo ripoffs? keep in mind that diablo is a ripoff of ultima series just remade so it appeals are wider audience. ;]
i agree (even tho i wouldnt call diablo a real rpg. more like action with rpg elements). my point was about the whole 'ripoff' stuff goin on these days.
might not be particularly relevant to you since I haven't actually played this game yet (d/l'ing it now), however if you're looking for isometric perspective CRPGs I can make recommendations!
Baldur's Gate series (1&2 + expansion for each, I recommend playing BG1 with BGTutu installed [uses the BG2 graphics/interface]), Icewind Dale series (1&2, + expansions for 2), Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights + expansions, Diablo 2 + expansion, Arcanum. That should be enough to get you started!
BGTutu is great but I had some problems with it, there were too many creatures spawning in each spot. For example, I've beaten BG1 and BG2 already and I know for a fact in BG1 that there should only be groups of 1-2 bears and maybe 2-5 gibberlings outside of Candlekeep, well I got out there with my level 1 character and there were 6-8 bears in a group and I ran across packs of 15-20 gibberlings. Needless to say it made me a sad panda, lol.
give Dungeon Seige a try. Another of my favorites is The Temple of Elemental Evil. Temple has the feel of a more modern baldurs gate. It can be a pain in the azz to get it working ,but its worth it
Rub toothpaste on it, I know it sounds wierd but it works. On the occasion it doesn't work, mix in some baking soda. Just don't use it too often or rub it in too hard as it could damage the disc.
This game is amazing, the free play allows for so much variation. I've completed this game tons of times now and each time it changes, I love it, new surprises even with a familiar game.
The graphics swap will be a big change but I have high hope for Divinity II: Ego Draconis.
If it has the same freedom as the original then it will be awesome, if it becomes another Beyond Divinity then i'll be disappointed.
There is a lot of comparisons to Diablo, even though the only thing they really share is the isometric view. Really this game should be compared to a game like Ultima 7. Saying you like Diablo better than this game is the same as saying you like Action-RPGs as opposed to Traditional-RPGs. All in all a great game, especially if you were a fan of Ultima, though it's solo based instead of party based.

Two different games, Diablo is hack and slash, and can hardly be called RPG, Divine Divinity has better dialog which helps you follow the story from start to end...TBH Diablo 2 is a great game, but you can't really compare these two...

Calm down. No need to get worked up because some one prefers RPG games with dialog like KOTOR NWN, BALDURS GATE and PLANESCAPE TORNMENT, now those are RPGs :). And yes I've played Diablo 2, although I preferred Diablo 1, have you played it? It takes place in Tristram.. :)
I got bit bored of Diablo 2 because to me it was repetitive.
Just remember though, if some one doesn't like your genre you don't need to get mad, it happens a lot on the internet. :S
A real rpg is a game like baldurs gate, icewind dale, planescape torment were your decisions affects your enviroment, in D2 you just follow a path were you have no decisions at all
you do take decisions in d2.And if diablo 2 is not an rpg then what is it?fps?D2 is an action rpg.Oblivion,Bladurs gate,etc. are adventure rpg's.Learn to make the difference between those type of games.
This game is just great, imho a little better than Diablo 2. The only thing I HATE about DD is the fog of war, but apparently there's no way to remove it :(
Beyond Divinity is very different. The action is much slower, it has barely any side quests and is much more linear. There are one or two interesting additions though. Some people liked it but it was disappointing for me.
Divine Divinity is a thousand times better than Diablo 1 or 2. Much more intricate stories and plots and side quests, it even has a hidden brothel with itself has a hidden S&M place. Hilarious!

there are 3 classes, warrior, survivor (a mix between thief and assassin) and mage. Each one u can choose between being male or female character, what have their differences. And it is much, much better than diablo 2.
yes, it is much better than D2 if played on single player, but nothing is better than D2 at multiplayer (too bad Divinity doesnt have it :( ) And well, you can actually raise all those magic spells on a warrior and he will became a mage. The starting classes are different only by their unique starting 1 skill and looks, that's all. Completed game twice - fem assassin and male warrior. Didn't notice a big difference in a gameplay.
woooo, i had this game, i was a female mage person, and cud kill them elite orcs :) but then a glitch stopped me going somewhere for something to do with some dwarvern place so i stopped playing :)

Don't download it, ya nut! Buy it! If it were a company like Square Enix or something HUGE like that, I wouldn't really care, but Larian are a great company that isn't that big or overly-well known... and besides, I think Xplosive have re-released it, so you could easily pick it up for a fiver. :)
sweet! thats the first time i've seen magic used in this game because my copy spells didn't work for some reason. i still enjoyed playing it, i just wasn't able to get very far.
How the hell? I have really really really hard problems with the bosses before the final boss. And this is only the first one to start with! Man he is pisshard! God how do you defeat him? I die like in 3 seconds! He hand his god damn spikes from the ground.
and does anyone have the same problem that when corina summons the demon there is nothing you can to to stop demon killing her..i just cant move then :S

I have a level 56 from doing nearlly the whole game and killing every monster/enemy and every single little quest (havent killed the main boss because i'll lose my character.

They are fantasy movies which are inspired by these games, with monsters and magic.

give Dungeon Seige a try. Another of my favorites is The Temple of Elemental Evil. Temple has the feel of a more modern baldurs gate. It can be a pain in the azz to get it working ,but its worth it

Rub toothpaste on it, I know it sounds wierd but it works. On the occasion it doesn't work, mix in some baking soda. Just don't use it too often or rub it in too hard as it could damage the disc.

This game is amazing, the free play allows for so much variation. I've completed this game tons of times now and each time it changes, I love it, new surprises even with a familiar game.
The graphics swap will be a big change but I have high hope for Divinity II: Ego Draconis.
If it has the same freedom as the original then it will be awesome, if it becomes another Beyond Divinity then i'll be disappointed.

There is a lot of comparisons to Diablo, even though the only thing they really share is the isometric view. Really this game should be compared to a game like Ultima 7. Saying you like Diablo better than this game is the same as saying you like Action-RPGs as opposed to Traditional-RPGs. All in all a great game, especially if you were a fan of Ultima, though it's solo based instead of party based.

Two different games, Diablo is hack and slash, and can hardly be called RPG, Divine Divinity has better dialog which helps you follow the story from start to end...TBH Diablo 2 is a great game, but you can't really compare these two...

Calm down. No need to get worked up because some one prefers RPG games with dialog like KOTOR NWN, BALDURS GATE and PLANESCAPE TORNMENT, now those are RPGs :). And yes I've played Diablo 2, although I preferred Diablo 1, have you played it? It takes place in Tristram.. :)
I got bit bored of Diablo 2 because to me it was repetitive.
Just remember though, if some one doesn't like your genre you don't need to get mad, it happens a lot on the internet. :S

A real rpg is a game like baldurs gate, icewind dale, planescape torment were your decisions affects your enviroment, in D2 you just follow a path were you have no decisions at all

Beyond Divinity is very different. The action is much slower, it has barely any side quests and is much more linear. There are one or two interesting additions though. Some people liked it but it was disappointing for me.

Divine Divinity is a thousand times better than Diablo 1 or 2. Much more intricate stories and plots and side quests, it even has a hidden brothel with itself has a hidden S&M place. Hilarious!

there are 3 classes, warrior, survivor (a mix between thief and assassin) and mage. Each one u can choose between being male or female character, what have their differences. And it is much, much better than diablo 2.

yes, it is much better than D2 if played on single player, but nothing is better than D2 at multiplayer (too bad Divinity doesnt have it :( ) And well, you can actually raise all those magic spells on a warrior and he will became a mage. The starting classes are different only by their unique starting 1 skill and looks, that's all. Completed game twice - fem assassin and male warrior. Didn't notice a big difference in a gameplay.

Don't download it, ya nut! Buy it! If it were a company like Square Enix or something HUGE like that, I wouldn't really care, but Larian are a great company that isn't that big or overly-well known... and besides, I think Xplosive have re-released it, so you could easily pick it up for a fiver. :)
