  • this might sound like a ridiculous question but here goes, is he strong and that big because he can do 30 pullups? or, can he do 30 pullups because he's so strong? sounds confusing but basically what i want to kno is if i get my pullups to 30 will my back be as wide as his? or would i need aditional training

  • umm...sup with all the haters saying this is bad form? If you knew anything about pullups you would know that this is pretty decent form. You can clearly see that his chin goes over the bar, plus its a wide grip pull up, how high do you expect someone to get their chin over the bar? half you all prob cant even do 10 pullups let alone 30.

  • Actually you start using your biceps with the last 3rd of the pullup motion instead of your lats. This guys doing it right. To keep tension on your lats you only go 2/3 way up.

  • @GoGodMedia anytime you pull your forearms towards you, you are using your biceps. that is the function of the biceps. not just the last part, but the whole movement and every back movement will always involve the bis, even with straps and hooks and everything,

  • anytime you move the forearm towards the body the biceps will always be engaged or self your forearms wouldnt move towards you it would just sit there. a back movement is actually the best way to minimize movement and the best way to maxamize is of course with any variation curl

Incase you didn't notice, he is doing wide grip pullups. Look at his arms at peak of pullup. How would it be physically possible for an arm to bend further than that without his grip being closer together?

  • There seems to be a lot of fuss going on about "proper form". I'd like to mention that a lot of it has to do with mind/muscle connection. Some people don't have to have their heads completely over the bar in order to get a good pump. It all depends on the individual.

    I accidentally deleted the other comment about doing them with palms facing me...I dont know if I can do more that way or not. When I used to do sets of 10 I could always do moe palms facing but I dont do them that way anymore.

    30 pull ups are a lot.. I'm stuck at 15 for about 6 months now. I tried doing some weitghed ones in order to increase my rm but still no good. Any ideas?

  • Best way I have gained pull ups is to add weight with a dip belt. and when ever you do pull ups without weight to bring the bar to your chest rather than your chin so that when your maxing out it feels like your only doing half the movement. hope that helps

  • I agree with ironman that bodybuilders and weightlifters can do amazing things with all their mucsles, comparing to people who are specialized into one particular excersize, like pullups. Not to mention that they do weigh 50 pounds lesser and have legs like sticks :)

  • Actually my chin is over the bar on every one except possibly # 30 The angle of the camera makes it hard to tell....Thats why the other pullup video I made sure the angle showed the bar & my chin. But I'll do it again soon... Maybe I'm not going all the way down U have a point there but I do weigh 210 pound 4 pound I think I may have the record. But we'll see..

  • Pretty good. Your second 15 is better than your first 15 in terms of form. If you can tape yourself from the front and go higher (way above the bar) and all the way down, I would even be more impressed, even if you can do only 20. At 210 lbs., 20 repetitions at strict form would put you at 1 in 300,000.
