Magnificent organ, however, I'd like to see who the organist is, at the console, playing "Ride of the Valkyries" and admire his playing such a magnificent organ, in stead of still photos.
there's a scene in kim newman's novel "the bloody red baron" in which a captain-nemo like character caled robur (from jules verne's master of the world) plays this in a zeppelin constructed for dracula
Very nice and professional and accurate arrangement and great interpretation!!! I have just one problem with compatibility "Walküre vs. Church space", but as organist - I understand that :-).
I have heard this organ in person and I would have loved to hear this live. You used this instrument showing off the magnificence of this Casavant gem. Stupendous arrangement. The Gods must have been looking down and smiling at you!!! BRAVO!!!!
I have a tendency toward the more "robust" lower sounding organs, but even with the treble frequencies resounding, you can almost see the Vs riding across the sky.
I have never heard reeds which are so 'in tune'. No temperature issues in your church then. Whilst I really enjoyed this, the total lack of wrong notes (I see you used midi input) and clinical nature of the performance did start to pall after a while - but you can't have everything!
@dtiydr Trumpets are common in organs, but this way of mounting them is a bit less common. It's called en chamade or spanish trumpet and isn't that unusual, but it depends much on the what type of organ your church has. At the church where I play in Sweden we have quite a small organ that still has spanish trumpets.
@chenrikl Had no idea about that cool, och en annan liten cool sak är att jag är från Sverige och heter samma som ditt nick/du gör. :)
But it might not then be as common in Swedish organs because i cant remeber have ever seen one with trumpets. But i havent actually really looked since i was about 8 years old the last time i was in a church..
@dtiydr Watch the newest video on my channel and you can see at the end credits what it might look like on a small organ. And as I said, if they have spanish trumpets or not really depends on the type of organ the churches have. It varies greatly between manufacturers and different organ types.
Well done! Glad you had the chance to enjoy my brother's "baby" :) (I'm Bill's sister.) I wish I lived in the Twin Cities so I could hear him play this extraordinary instrument more often!
Very Impressive, but what are the trumpet stops you're using? Also love the bass, what length pipes? Haven't heard bass like that since the West Point organ : P Sry to pick your brains so much but I just love this rendition and its sound : D
@jperschb - You should see the Wanamaker Organ at the Macy's in Philadelphia, the largest functional pipe organ on earth, installed for the flagship of the John Wanamaker department store chain. It has 6 manuals and 28,453 pipes in 462 ranks. It is regularly played (twice daily free recitals except Sundays) by one organist with another assistant to change the pages of sheet music. Look up the Wanamaker here on YouTube and on Wikipedia.
@jperschb I think he's talking about the instrument, not the piece. Classic non-organist misunderstanding on his part. :p Very impressive transcription and recording!
@jperschb How exactly does the thing work? Is there someone who has to run the air pumps while you play the keyboard? How exactly does one operate a pipe organ?
my god, thats the most beautifull organ I've ever seen (I love cathedral's organs) and you just playd it like part of your body (not trying to make a opun with Organ), beautifull, a masterpiece of musical enginering played by a master
Ansolutely thrilling and entirely convincing: this enormous instrument becomes agile and crisp - so often one gets 'mud' from other organists and their transcriptions! - magnificent. Quintessential perfection in transcribing a full romantic orchestral score to the King of Instruments!
This is absolutely glorious. The only thing I would wish for would be to be in that sanctuary when this is played, and hear it live in all its majesty. Beyond that I would be speechless.
If music be "food for thought", this would be the aural equivalent of a sinfully rich tiramisu...
Well, it would take at least three organists at the console to play it. I used the organ's midi interface to feed in the notes of my arrangement (kind of like a player piano roll).
excellent playing and what a beautifully constructed organ! Im glad to see a real organ was used, not some stupid black plastic box that sounds almost as good.
