beautiful absolute and he done loads of great stuff that has been eclipsed by his more commercial stuff, brilliant track and voice is amazing and heart felt. well posted!
Oh my lord, what the hell happened to "Lost Someone"?? This is terrible! I'll take the live Apollo every day of the week over this! What was he thinking? This is as soulless as soulless gets! This is something that Satan did to humiliate him!
JB at his best very Northern Soulish sound great song !! i heard about this song when i was listening to Patti Smith Piss Factory !! I love it get on up on the floor x
Lads - the references to this being speeded up are incorrect. this is a track off the Hell LP from the 7t's. the slow track sung live is a version of 1 1961 track and i'm not aware of any realtion between these two tracks. This is a far superior offering than the 1961 track IMO
Opinions are like assholes: everybody has one. There is no relation between this and the track of Live at the Appollo from 1961, except that the they have THE SAME LYRICS. JB was the greatest soul singer ever in the 60s, IMHO, but by the "7ts", all he wanted to do was make a pile of money, which he did. God bless JB, but I stopped being a major fan by 1969.
jerry thanks for the asshole there. ref the same song i'll check the lyrics when i get back to the house . As for JB being a soul singer and being the best soul singer? . for a start he wasnt a soul singer - his style of music was funk and there is a world of difference there , as for him being the best soul singer heres a few names that knock that on the head - jackie wilson, darrell banks, walter jackson, Major Lance, Curtis Mayfield. That he made lots of money is not in dispute.
@SoulieBoss - James Bropwn was by far the best soul singer. He didn't have a trained voice but his voice sent shills down folks' spines. He didn't just sing funk. He was one of pioneers of soul music, and he indeed singlehandedly created funk.
@jerryforman786 Hey that's your opinion so I cannot disagree with your likes & dislikes but get offa that "makin' money" trip & give the man his due. He held the flag on the battlefield of funk in the 70s and nobody, not Rufus Thomas, not George Clinton, not even the mighty Isleys funked harder than brother James. Now add to that that at that time he was moving in a direction more as a band leader than singer. Lastly James brown's live performances performances in the 70's were some of his best.
This is being played at wrong speed. Is very a very slow tempo, should be played at 45 speed. That's why it sounds so wierd. Is one of his first...... very plaintif, soulful.
There was Try Me, Bewildered, Please, Please, Please, and I'll go Crazy.......
Wish could hear way it originally recorded. Thanks anyway.
Rest in funk(you are the funk) so rest in you;)

His funk didn;t start til mid 60s. What about '55 til then? All those years were soul, but we called it R&B, definitely not FUNK, no way.
