@MsFairyFreak No, the choice is going to go to all the Rebels, with me and gretchen making the final decisions! Some people are campaigning, which of course brings them to our attention, but honestly we're watching ALL the vlogs and going for what will work best for the group. If someone would be great for the group and has exactly what we're looking for, but is just getting started, they wouldn't be able to pull in "votes".
I' m a writer and I love you guys so much .. thing is I'm not a YA writer so I'm gonna pass with the auditions ... they look awesome so far. Can't wait to see the new rebels
@CinnamonPenguin Yes. And while they may not have much input for the first draft or so of a first book, I disagree with your comment about them having "almost no direct relation to the publishing process." I know my writing has been helped a TON by reading reviews! Their enthusiasm can build the kind of buzz that makes or breaks a book. They also have a new and different view of the industry than straight up writers.
Plus most of em are crazy. Have you SEEN some of these auditions?! ;)
The more auditions I watch, the more nervous I get! You guys rock! I don't envy Leah and Gretchen who have to make the decision; so many awesome people to choose from =]
Aw, this sucks a little. I'll miss watching everyone on here but... life happens.
As for auditioning; I always seem to walk into offers like these when I'm completely unprepared.
I do have a question though. Have you ever considered writers and people who want to go into the film industry, or is that getting off the topic you're going for? I'm just curious because I've been finding a lot of information on publishing lately, but not 'real people' discussing any kind script writing.
@MegLanding We would love to see an audition from someone who is a screenwriter! We would want you to read YA though, because I think that's the tie that binds with the Rebels.
Hmmm. Having watched some of the other vlogs, I now see that I may have left out a few key details like...who the heck is she and why is she sending us a vlog? So: I'm a published author of YA High Fantasies, my third book just came out in the UK (Cinderella retelling set in fairytale Feudal Japan) and will be out in the US next year. I'm editing my fourth book now. Tada!
Oo! I left certain important (but not necessarily entertaining) resume-style details out of my video. The salient facts: I have one completed novel in query (with a new incarnation of the query letter due), a second WIP, and short stories, the latest of which is on submission at Asimov's. I mention all that to verify that I am, as gypsygurla put it, "on the writer side of things...making progress toward a publishing goal!" Later, skaters!
@SerenityCalamity If you're working the writer side of things, you just need to be making progress toward the publishing goal! I think out of the original members only Kody had a book deal when we formed the group. Some of us didn't have agents... Though being closer to querying would be an advantage, it's not by necessary at all! At one point EVERY ONE OF US had an unfinished WIP ;)
@Lythya You don't have to have a published book! We're looking for people writing, bloggers, agents, editors... Basically as long as you love books and feel like you'd contribute to the group, AUDITION! We want to hear from you! :)
A question for Leah and Gretchen: Apart from making a weekly vlog, how much time would you estimate each Rebel will need to invest per week? I'm asking because your ideas about query critiques and forums are really exciting, but I don't want to jump in and waste your time with an audition vlog if being a great Rebel would take more time than I could offer.
@RedZolah It'd depend on how long it takes you to pull a vlog together. For me, to put together an idea, film it and edit/upload it, I would say about 3 hours+ depending on how much you want to put into it? (BUT THAT IS ME. Others were WAY different) For the twitter/fb we're thinking like 5-10 interactions a day (So starting a conversation on FB, @replying a few people). We thought it would be better to OVERESTIMATE the commitment rather than underestimate it!
@RedZolah No and Hannah is going to be staying on for the online side of things! She just doesn't want to vlog! So it'll take a bit of pressure off us.
@RedZolah For me, it's about 2-3 hours a week. I'm lightening fast and shooting and editing my vlogs now. I actually find it relaxing. And the social networking part...well...I do that from my day job. Shhhhh.
@GretchenMcNeil LOL - don't worry, I won't tell. I already Tweet like crazy anyway - so does that count, or is there extra, official YA Rebels Twittering/Facebooking to be done?
I'm not a writer. I'm lucky if I can string two coherent sentences together. But as a reader that stumbled upon your group some time back, I've greatly enjoyed getting to know what goes into the making of a book and being able to see what drives you all. In fact, because of YAR, I wound up buying Wildefire (and loving it!) and have ordered/preordered everyone elses. I can't wait to read them. Many many thanks to all of you involved and can't wait to see what comes next! Best of luck to everyone.
I really liked: rklipman, journeyofadreamer, Katytastic, icountwords, dreamsofclockwork, xSandyPantsu, heatheranastasiu, and KayeleeBoBailey.

Question. I was wondering if a majority of the voting has to do with likes?
