  • Wow. i was 8 at that time, 14 now, i never understood how important this was to our nation. Looking back i understand it now, im proud to be Australian and proud to see us in our second World Cup in over 32 years.. GO THE SOCCEROOS!!

  • craig foster should never commentate again

  • lol nice hair at the begginging!!!

  • YEEEEHHH AUSTRALIA!!!!

  • craig foster jizzed.

  • we all remember the aloisi moment, but those schwarzer saves was what did it :) champ

  • was forlan playing in this game?

  • I remember watching this on sunrise in the morning and saying "WTF who gives a shit about soccer, pretty sure we live in Australia.

  • australias best coach guus hiddink

  • 1:37 "this one would be a great one to save, a great one to save." no shit, dumbass

  • I never get bored of watching this over and over again.

  • who the fuck was that commentating with simon hill? he's so fukn shit

  • Kewell haircut = pathetic

  • I love the big "fuck off" from Schwarzer to Rodriguez. Absolute Classic!

  • schwarzer is clutch

  • you gotta love australia =)

  • I love this game.

  • i literally jizzed for 16hrs straight after Aloisi's goal, when i think about it, i dont know how that was even possible, but i swear on my life that it happened

  • Uruguay was hurt after a World Cup quarter thing that Australia is not whether it will someday

  • I was at this game and it's the first time I'd cried with happiness. The second time was when Cahill scored his second against Japan. Great memories.

  • guss hiddink we miss you alot....:(

  • goosebumps

  • Wow Kewell had some REALLY douche-ey hair...

  • @Danklay530

League has always been the dominate sport, oz rules is pretty big aswell. Fottball or soccer is becoming has become a lot more popular since this shootout

  • thats what u call a keeper

  • i am with tears in my eyes right now ,and im brazilian

    congrats australia

  • did this make footy(soccer) more popular in Oz?? How popular is it now, what are the most popular sports?? Oz rules, cricket, union, league ??

  • go aussie

  • The main reason why love football/soccer is because its easy to watch and so simple to play, 2 nets 2 teams stick the round ball into the opponents net using your feet, i remember being a kid going to a field and using shoes as goal posts and bringing a ball, that was it. Love it.

  • lovin the celebration run at the end :D

  • i was at that game and it was the most hype ive ever seen. I was so stoked to see them qualify. 2010 world cup was bad for Australia because of all the red cards and wasnt fun to watch.

  • OH COME ON!!! Wheres Suarez and Forlan?!?!

  • oh god look at harry kewell's hair...

  • WAS FORLAN IN THIS URUGUAY TEAM?

  • was that in austrailia?

  • @johncena1fan100 yeh, 2005 in Sydney, stopped the nation

  • @lukestapley oh thtas why uruguay was booed, go forlan!

  • u gotta love the boos

  • I love this. So much.

  • it's funny how Australia BEAT Uruguay to QUALIFY for the 2006 world cup, last world cup Uruguay didn't even make it. And now look at them now in 2010. They are in the quarter finals!

  • fairly easy group for them, anyone could have beaten france this WC, and south africa were equally disapointing

  • @lukestapley easy group so your saying that uruguay were lucky to make it through the first round and advance to the semis? France Mexico South Africa were no easy opponents. Just because France had problems doesn't mean they can't play. Yeah anyone could have beaten france in this World Cup except Australia.

  • @MrDimitri2826 ouch man

  • @MrDimitri2826 uraguay did have an easy path to the semis though compared to the other teams (wat if england didnt f up and come 2nd to usa) ... but nethertheless did wlel to get there

  • @MrDimitri2826, 5 months on and you're still a little cunt.

  • @MrDimitri2826 Australia would have gone just as far if they were in the same position as Uruguay

  • @MrDimitri2826 and Italy*

  • @MrDimitri2826 you dick head

  • @lukestapley fairly easy group? LOOK AT URUGUAY TEAM they have suarez, cavani, Muslero, and they got the best player in the WC 2010 FORLAN.. australia better than uruguay pfft. I am not from uruguay I dont like them since they beat Mexico in the World Cup, but come on you really think that Australia is better than Uruguay? AUSTRALIA WILL NEVER I REPEAT NEVER get even close to the semifinals

  • most epic run ever by Aloisi! It's just so euphoric!!!

  • VAMOS URUGUAY CARAJO! CANGUROS CHUPA PIJA ESTE AÑO NO LLEGAN NI A OCTAVOS!

  • I wish that Guus Hiddink would of stayed with us longer.

  • Best moment in Socceroos History.

It's too bad we lost today- the 2006 team were MUCH better.

  • @Forthevline it is the SAME team as 2006, thats why were not as good. there all old fellas

  • @djsfilms1, if it's the same team, where is Viduka and Aloisi?

THAT'S what I am talking about.

  • @Forthevline there probably red carded...

  • @djsfilms1, Uhhh... no.

    They retired from international football.

  • JOHNNY WARREN

  • shivers down my spine :D

  • i smile when ever i see this.

  • @viet739 surely makes my day !!!

  • its neil! its 2 neil!!

  • That was some seriously sweet revenge for the 2001 play-off.

  • Schwarzer is such a gun

  • one of the greta sporting moments in australian history, why did australia have to go to asia to qualify easy, we are never gonna a see a match like this ever again on australia soil, real heartpunding stuff, now australia will have easy qualification all the world cups.

  • @XerxesVaia I wouldn't call it easy against national teams like japan, egypt or sth korea. It's logical that Australia is placed in Asia. Where it belongs, not South America!

  • @MelbKnights i thought egpyt was african team?? but yeah still honestly australia i think has an easier route of qualifying now cos of course there are strong team but maybe japan and iran the reat australia will cruise past them in the qualifiers, i reckon matches like the one against uruguay prepare a team better for the world cup cos they are really strong.

  • @XerxesVaia My mistake. Egypt won the African nations cup three times in a row and I watched the finals. Silly mistake! I meant to say Saudi Arabia. Iran isn't too bad either. But you can't stick a national team in a region it doesn't even belong to or even remotely related to.

  • @MelbKnights no man i think you thought australia was placed in south american qualifiers before, it wasnt like that, to qualify for the world cup before it was the best team in oceania which normally was australia had to face a team that finished 5th in qualifying from south america, and australia always had hard fought matches with the south americans which i think prepares them well for the world cup cos they are very strong opponents and its a difficult match.

  • @XerxesVaia I'm aware they had to play the 5th best team in Sth America. But I think it's silly to play tonga, samoa, nz then play a very hard 5th placed team from South America. At least now they have relatively hard matches in Asia.

  • @MelbKnights yea rite... japan, egypt or south korea are not easy. australia take 8 tries against 5th place south americans to get to the world cup, but take 1 try against Asians to qualify. Obviously Asia is not easy!

Keep deluding urself, Asia is obviously much easier than 5th place South Americans, and everyone knows that... and thats the only reason why Australia was begging to join Asia.

  • @sianghan What are you suggesting Einstein? How about we put Australia in European qualification! Australia belongs to Asia, hence that's why they are in the Asian qualification. End of story

  • RIP Johnny Warren

  • Uruguay does not exist. Dejate de joder, uruguay no merecía ir al mundial. they did not deserve qualify.

  • still gives me chills

  • Uruguay, take that you froggy bastards!

  • Who is this idiot that said: "Are you sure"? And if he doesn´t even know the basic rules of a penalty shootout - why is he in the commentator´s seat at all?

  • because after 32 years of heartbreak, he can't believe Australia are one kick away from the World Cup. He knew. Im 21, I was 16 at the time, i never believed i'd see Australia at a World Cup, here I am about to see them at their second

  • @lukestapley Amen to that :D

  • @lukestapley

    Actually their 3rd mate haha

  • Why is Australia playing in the Asian Confederation?

  • @molonlave2010 Asia has a much higher standard and it's better to play against talented teams like Japan, South Korea, Korea DPR etc. So instead of wasting time in Oceania winning 6-0 against everyone (except New Zealand) they were allowed to change and face real teams. it seems to work because they qualified 5 points clear of Japan.

  • @molonlave2010 Because they joined the AFC on 1 January 2006, with FIFA, OFC and AFC approval. Happy now?

  • He's actually one of the most knowledgeable football brains in Australia (Craig Foster) believe it or not!

But you have to understand the gravity of the moment:

THIRTY - FOUR - YEARS!! He was also drunk! lol

That moment brought a country together like no other sport can.

  • it was 32 years actually man. Craig Foster is a pure Australian. he was just speaking as if he was watching it in the crowd or at home

  • @warpfield98 It was a long time either way. The moment was golden...and he lost it! As most Aussies did then.

  • @stipefan11 it was craig foster and he was saying it purely on the basis that he couldnt believe that we were one goal away from world cup, he was a pro footballer

  • @stipefan11 you are the idiot for not knowing who he is, you dumb fuck. Thats Craig Foster and he says that because he cant believe that Australia is going to be in the world cup, a 100 year old country with a population of 20 million, unbelievable.

  • @stipefan11 your ignorance pisses me off so much that i had to comment you again, you are an absolute wank.

  • Wish we would of stayed in the same league now all we play are crappy Asian teams.

  • AUSSIE AUSSIE URUGUAY cant play football they are horrible go socceroos :)

  • LetMeShowU414ever, your mother got pregnant from taking it in the ass.

  • man this was awsome

  • My parents are from Uruguay, I was born in the states, but i remember waking up right when they were taking penalties. I remember quite clearly everything, when we missed that penalty and then Mark Viduka gave us some hope and then we missed and it was over. I turned off my T.V and said in my head "Time to wait 4 years" and now it's 2010 and Uruguay is in it, hopefully we can meet again in the World Cup.

    .

  • the crowd were amazing, what emotion. the aussie football team are really talented

  • i was there and i still get goosbumps gr8 moment

  • Schazzer is a superstar

  • Uruguay kicks ass...we're the best! :D

  • @LetMeShowU414ever

    ...of course you are;)

  • @LetMeShowU414ever you are not the best i am sorry

  • @Mollarooza Why did u think i care about what u think? that's the way i feel, and it's called "Spirit" if u don't think u are the best, first...who will, then?

  • @LetMeShowU414ever you arent the best, i dont care because in the big scheme of things your little country means nothing, your people are as rude as shit, arrogant haha

  • @Mollarooza Look who's talking about arrogance...the one who thinks that all the world but they, are shit....maybe u didn't understand what i said before...but i don't give a FUCK, why do u still think i wanna listen what a dumbass says?

Go and play with the kangaroos, because football is not ur subject...Faggot

Send me a message as soon as u win a world cup, or anything..i will be waiting..pfff

  • @LetMeShowU414ever Go and play with the kangaroo hahahaha

soccer isnt a major sport here, lets see how many medals urugay wins at olympics?

    HAHAHA none

    pfft

  • @Mollarooza if u don't know anything about "soccer", why are u talking about it, then? stupid jerk...if u suck at it, then shut the fuck up, and play ur "major sport" there, which should suck, just like you

    assface

  • @LetMeShowU414ever we dont suck at it we ranked very high, just that we are good at even minor sports like soccer

  • @LetMeShowU414ever Go strap a bomb to yourself you useless cunt.

  • @LetMeShowU414ever dw bout what everyone is saying, it's good that u go for your country, just like i would say that Australia is the best :P

  • What a memorable moment to knock out a team who has won 2 world cups =0

  • Haha great emotion! I'm hoping we can do the same against bahrain on november 14

  • Craig Foster haha, so happy.....'johhny warran!'

  • Fantastic. Glad to see Australia at 2010 as well, lets hope NZ join them too.

  • I hope they do. I'll be going for them.

  • You got your wish, mate.

  • @UnoriginalCinema they did, but got eliminated in the first round, but so did australia, at least in 2006 they made it to the top 16

  • que bien shwarzer ,,, o como se escriba ...

  • el shwarzer es asombroso

  • magic.

  • I watched this game on my year 12 formal night.

What a way to remember it.

  • Craig Foster's commentary is so special! You can here so much emotion in his voice!

  • I'm Uruguayan and remember watching this game. It was very hard to watch....

  • It must be worse watching the Aussies celebrating haha

  • que sera sera, whatever will be, will be, were going to Germany, que sera sera

  • i`m uruguayan this day was the worst of my life xD

and maybe wu cant go to sudafrica 2010 :(

  • Fabio Grosso

  • i hate viduka. so over rated. shit for aus and shit for newcastle

  • 32 years of pain and frustration were swept away on that magical evening. That was truly a once in a lifetime moment. Still can not find words to describe how I felt that night. Us previously maligned and ridiculed Australian football fans found our vindication, and our nation finally began to feel the magic of football. If we go on to win the world cup one day, we will truly look back and say that was our finest hour.

  • Well said

  • Schwarzer is a bloody champion

  • Still gives me goosebumps 4 years on

  • They made it to the eighth-final 2006 and went out just because of a filming of Totti.

  • @miecuadelalma jajajajajajajajajajaj

  • I sat and watched this as a AFL follower only, I ended up jumping on the couch and crying still sends shivers down my spine

  • As an Australian-Uruguayan, this moment made me feel happy and sad at the same time!

  • can you hear the THUNDER?

  • ver este video me da mas rabia.

    AGUANTE URUGUAY

  • this was the best aussie sporting moment of all time for me

  • Australia ranked 16 by fifa.Craig Foster you must be feeling like a real fucking loser..Results count, playing attacking football and loosing don't.Now stop bagging our coach and our wining style and shut the fuck up you pathetic little man.

  • Whats wrong with wanting the best of both worlds?

  • Foster spoiled the moment..hes a whining bitch

  • meh, I reckon Foster just showed as a former socceroo how much it meant to him, he was on the verge of tears after it. Man such a great climax to the series, I was screaming my head off when this happened, thanks for posting I could watch it 10x over! =D wooo lets go South Africa 2010!

  • Fair call, but in my opinion I reckon Foster made it better, coz he showed just how much emotion Australia was feeling about this moment

  • Everytime i watch this i think two things 1) how good it was to watch this moment live and 2) Craig Foster is an idiot! worst commentating performance i have ever heard. Hill is commentating and foster doesnt even realise australia can qualify with aloisis goal. then he just screames his love for aloisi while Hill is trying to explain whats going on. GREAT Video though! : )

  • yeh. i think he's just in shock though of the thought of Australia ACTUALLY going to a world cup after 1 simple kick, he doesn't believe it so he's just double checking. probably like everyone else, didn't think they'd ever see Australia qualify

  • I agree,Foster is just a big tosser

  • No matter how many times I watch this match I still get excited at every goal Socceroos score and save, and still get a tear in my eye when Aloisi pumps the last one home! Stuff History indeed!

  • I reakon Vidukas miss added to the tension, was great moment for Australia.

  • yeah I agree coz if viduka scored and schwarzer saved that 4th goal then we would have qualified and the moment just wouldn't be the same.....

  • shut up no it dident

  • Australias Best Sporting Moment EVER.

  • amen!!

  • I feel the nerves every time I see it ! Unbeleivable, cant put into words !

  • still gives me gossebumps to this day......awesome moment in australian sporting history

  • Comment removed

  • well you're an absolute idiot because it was a watermark that the video editor i was using put on there because i was using a trial version. i dont want you to read it. i want you to ignore it. it is out of my control.

  • comment removed mate
