KAte Buckingham here. Re coleyd's comment above...No I was NOT harrassed in the street, nor did I receive any bad press. to the contrary, the overwhelming majority of people were really happy for me and I was often stopped in the street for people to congratulate me. Once another champion was established, the public tended to forget about teh previous one. This was a great experience for me & it was filmed on 27th Sept. 1990 & went to air on 15 oct. 1990) on the Channel 9 network in Australia
@katebuck100 Oh wow! Is this the real Kate Buckingham? If so, it's an honor having you post an comment or even watching "Sale" on my channel! I'm relieved that none of the above happened. I would love to see your performance on your final day on "Sale" where you won the lot! I'm from the USA and I loved "Sale" when it made a hit series back in the 80's! I wish the CORRECT version of Temptation was bought down here to the States as well!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, if I could travel back in time, but the biggest jackpot on a game show went to "$1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime" (USA) in 1985-86.
Geez, she slipped. Not as bad as being hit in the head by those objects the come down from above, like what once happened to a contestant on Australian SOTC.
because had the jackpot been won, John would have taken the $306,000 and the jackpot would have started over; however, since the jackpot wasn't won, the next show's cash jackpot moved up to $308,000.
@lilyitch There have been a few occasions where the champion was defeated on the last night, but it was even rarer (as far as I am aware) for the winner of that night to eventually go on to eventually win all the prizes and the jackpot in a matter of days.
Oh, I see! The Win Card (and it must be achieved in whole) gives the player an automatic match on the next prize he/she picks. Only by getting a specific something in the main game can the car be added to the board.
I can answer your question. If someone got the win card, then they had to pick another number and you'd won whatever was behind that number without getting a pair and the ONLY way to win the cars.
Just for your information, the Australian version had the Winner's Board from the start of 1989 until its last episode in 2001. Before then, they had the Shopping format (at least we didn't have that Winner's Big Money Game (or whatever it was called)). The WIN and CAR(S) cards appeared as normal on the board until 1993, where a rule change saw that the winner needed a score of at least $100 on the night for the WIN and CAR(S) cards to appear on the board.
I'll see if someone I know can post a couple of more clips from other shows. I'm away for the next couple of weeks so it won't be any time soon soon.

It turns out I'm wrong. It wasn't a contestant, it was actually Tony Barber who was hit in the head by the cash jackpot in 1984.

You dubbed over the Grundy/9 logo with the US version.

Then how come the revealed the spaces with the car?

"Tonight's Sale of the century jackpot was $306,000!"
lilyitch 3 years ago

How did you know it?

And I suppose you could be uploading it But this is the only episode you have. Am I sure?
lilyitch 3 years ago
What was the starting point for the cash jackpot in the aussie version?
bpot22 3 years ago
It started off at $50,000 and went up $2,000 each night until won.
MeFrom07 2 years ago
Is this the only Aussie sale of the century episode? Where The Changer De-throned the Champion Thus Losing Everything Plus The $306,000?

The shopping part is my favorate part of aussie sale of the century, and it's the best bonus round ever!

What would've happened if she had gotten the Win card?
TVLubber 4 years ago
I don't think that would have been possible because I don't think they had the "Winner's Board" on the Australian version of the show.
30mj1976 4 years ago
Sorry, I lied. Just goes to show that you should not comment on something like this until you know the whole story.
30mj1976 4 years ago
I just wanna know what would've happened if she had gotten the Win Card? That is so unlike the US version.

From what I remember she got a lot of bad press and harrased in the street months afterwards for this.
