@ghsr82 Mine is McCallum and it's good, but I'm hardly an expert on the subject. From what I hear though, it is best to get a plastic mouthpiece and an african blackwood body. I can't seem to remember why, though!
@ghsr82 I have the MacCallum as well and it's great. Get the all plastic one, you don't need the nickle ferrule or whatever. If you get a real african blackwood one you'll be spending at least 499 rather than 99 dollars! Not worth it, save that money and put it towards some real african blackwood drones on your first set of real pipes once you can rock the chanter well enough.
The Best Chanter to get is a hand-made Chris Terry chanter. I have one, the body is African black-wood, the mouth-piece is black hard plastic and the base is silver. It has the best sound quality and is about the same size as a bagpipe chanter so your finger spacing is almost the same on both.
Good job!!! I just got my chanter a couple weeks ago. It's a Dunbar. I'm starting to take private lessons with an individual who has been playing the Highland pipes his whole life. But anyway, keep up the good work!!!
Thanks! And I highly recommend it! Just make sure when you buy it you get an instructional book with it to. I can guarantee you that I wouldn't be able to play anything now if I hadn't. Well, that or actual lessons, but that's not feasible for me. The Highland Bagpipe Tutor Book is what I used and it is GREAT, very slowly eases you in.
Yes!! Whenever I seem to get one part right I will mess up a part I used to find easy when I record myself! But it never really frustrates me because I love playing it so much.
Nothing is compared to the Strathspeys I'm learning now though! Lady MacKenzie of Garloch, very difficult to play at speed but fun :)
Thank you very much for your comments yet again my friend!
what would be a good practice chanter for someone wanting to learn the bagpipes to buy?

@Vargblod A plastic mouthpiece won't expand with moisture from your playing.

5***** my Friend!
I know what you feel!
Damn Doublings!!
It´s so hard to play the fast and 100% right without crossing!
That´s why they have world Championships!
I think there are not many Pipers playing 100% well doublings!
But always try to get perfect!
Keep up the good work and don´t loose the fun at performing!
Best regards from Germany

Chant on Highlander. Haven't heard you play that one since we were slaying Visigoths 800 years ago. You haven't aged a bit.
