How come the quality of sounds is so good, since it was recorded before, for example, Rachmaninov's recordings, which are full of ~krc!, ^prc!, hsshhshsss and staff?
The closest we could come to Liszt's playing....Wonderful.(Of course the dream is to find a pianoroll recorded by The Maestro himself....I wish such a recording existed)
Now that people r trying to sell this stash of rolls we will never have a true account of old playing. No paderewsky rubatos and the fingers sound like todays finger pretty rtists .Listen to this man's recs and you will hear an unbelievable personality and presence in his chopin which has not this type of clarity anyway.rolls are being sold by liars .
What is evident , Busoni was a great musician and a good virtuose too. His sound is perfect. And he does not see this piece as an etude but as what is is a music composition which needs an intelligent interpretation....
Listened to this again and still was disappointed in the set up of the piano. Hopefully, I can make a post soon of what I believe to be one of two of the best performances - the other being Friedheim's which is posted. Friedheim wasn't young when he made the 78 rpm.
This is a piano roll transfer and a poor one at that. The LP of the same roll is much clearer and much more delicate where it should be. I was disappointed with this CD. They didn't have the piano set up correctly. I'm going to get out the LP and post some of it one of these days and you will hear the difference - it's awesome. From what I've read, Busoni did not use a lot of pedal when he played - didn't need it with his gargantuan technique.
Please post. I have heard of two commercial recordings with pretty significant timing differences from this roll. Would be cool to hear something better. (Ear witness,Nimbus)

I've managed ONCE to play this piece with no errors - very slowly! It's said that Busoni hated all recording. The hate is not audible here!!

Seems rather crude and unrefined but likable nonetheless. His virtuosity is evident. I like that he uses little pedal.

When was this performed? Sounds like a "Player," is it?
