  • Why is induction so important?

  • @intune8781 Your body needs a period of acclimation to cutting out sugar/starch and you'll feel it. Induction is basically a detox from your carbohydrate addiction so you can make the switch from being a carb-burning metabolism to one that is fat-burning. Great question!

  • Thanks. I'll do that. And thanks again for your excellent informative and entertaining videos.

  • It's my pleasure!

  • I've tried several times to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, and it is very difficulty to read. While I appreciate his research, I don't need to know every detail. This time, I just read the instructions parts, and am going back for the science parts as I go through each stage. Your videos are far more helpful.

  • Check out ControlCarb dote come and read Dr. Jonny Bowden's Living The Low-Carb Life for an easier book to read about the low-carb lifestyle.

  • I don't necessarily think you have to read the book to do the atkins diet, but you do have to do your research.Now-a-days you can get a lot of information from the internet, like your blog for example.I did it by the book, but I didn't read "his" books before starting. I had a mentor though. I do agree that most people should read the book, because its hard to know what's accurate.I did read the "Atkins for Life Book", but it was after I lost the weight.I'm one year with the 30 lbs gone.

  • That's true amberview30. But you are a lot more likely to be successful if you do read DR. ATKINS' NEW DIET REVOLUTION, for example, than if you simply relied on what you "heard" about it. There's so misinformation floating around out there that you can't know who you can trust. Going back to the book will eliminate that worry. CONGRATS on your success!

  • THANKS for sharing, Andy. But that is not accurate information. The late great Dr. Robert C. Atkins experienced a slip and fall accident on some ice in New York and died from the injury to his head. He did not die from the Atkins diet.

  • He slipped and fell and went into a comma. Maybe you should check your facts. Unless the XD means that you are being sarcastic.

  • Hi, Christine and Jimmy! I just love the videos. I am fixing on re-reading my DANDR and starting up again. I feel so yucky when I eat too much carbs. Christine, your hair style really suits you! Jimmy-look back at Episode 8, your hair pulled onto your forehead looks better than parted and swept to the side hair. Keep up the great work ya'll are doing!

  • Yeah, I like the Caesar cut, too, but my hair grows so fast I'd have to cut it every week to keep it looking like that. But I'm glad you like our videos. :D

  • I have a question, well a few. I am a diabetic now and am on insulin four times a day, can I get enough carbs to keep my sugar levels up? I am also in a wheel chair, so how much was exercise a part of your loss? Sorry to be a bother, I think you two are great!

  • No bother at all and those are EXCELLENT questions. It's more important to get your diet right first than to worry about exercise right now. I did my fair share of cardio, but changing to a low-carb diet was the key. If you are following low-carb, then you may be able to come off of insulin. E-mail me.

  • Thanks for your YouTube broadcasts! They are invaluable!! I was sooo happy you mentioned Johnny's book "Living The Low Carb Life". I too am currently reading it. It is such a wealth of amazing information!! This is my first time on a low carb WOE and I can't thank you enough for all your help!!! (And Johnny!! :))

  • Jonny's book really is the best place to start for anyone who wants to eat this way and isn't sure which plan to do. I'm happy it's working for you and THANK YOU for watching our videos!

  • People should check their local Goodwill and/or Salavation Army or Thrift store. I bought my Atkins book for $.50 at the Salvation Army Store. I am reading Living the Low Carb Life right now. It's an awesome book.

    Jodi (quest4health)

  • Great idea, Jodi! The point is GET YOUR HANDS ON THESE BOOKS because they are invaluable when you are choosing this lifestyle change. :)

  • You guys really are the cutest couple!! It's also great to read the book b/c it explains the whole cycle of what sugar etc. does to you. Actually, I read the book but it's been a long time ago. I think I better read it again!

  • It's probably a good idea to make it an annual ritual to read the book again so you NEVER forget the principles that got you started on the journey to better health in the first place. And branch out into other low-carb plans to glean lessons from those, too.

  • You know you really hit home, I got a book and I have skimmed through it. Just looking for the word 0Carbs. I think I get it now, I have to read the book front to back and start to live it. Thank You Linda PS I always look forward to your and your wife's videos.

  • GREAT JOB, Linda! The surefire way of failing to succeed on your low-carb lifestyle is to assume you know all about it without ever actually knowing what it is from the experts first. It's a lesson far too many people make! THANKS for watching our videos! :)

  • Jimmy and Christine, Great Job. Always good advice and I am lovin' Christine's new haircut.

  • THANK YOU Hilary! Christine like her new "do" as well. :D Ain't she such a cutie pie?!

  • Hey Jimmy! This isn't about this particular video (which is GREAT advice, by the way), but I've been trying to figure out what those brown things are at the end of all your videos! They look like wide slices of dry beef jerky! What IS that? ;-)

  • If you want them to be beef jerky, then that's what they are! LOL! Heck if I know what they REALLY are. :D THANKS as always for watching!

  • Thanks Jimmy and Christine. I know now that I need to reread DANDR. Keep up the good work! Blessings, ChrisTina aka MrsA.

  • Hey ChrisTina! It's good to see you here on YouTube. Read that book early and often so the principles of livin' la vida low-carb will saturate your entire thought process. You're gonna get to that goal, so KEEP AT IT!!!

  • Loved this video, extremely funny & great advice! I'd thought I was doing Atkins because I reduced my carbs from about 300g-500g per day to about 100g per day. Then I read the book :) I learned so much! I'm currently on Day 5 of induction, plus I have the flu (not the induction flu, but a regular flu), so it's fun city here (NOT!). But I read your book after GCBC and I am motivated to persevere no matter what. Your story of your ten week plateau inspired me. Thanks, Olivia

  • THANKS for watching, Olivia! And I'm so proud of you for starting the Atkins diet by the book. As much as has been said about the late great Dr. Robert C. Atkins over the years, the man knew what he was talking about. Follow his wisdom and you can't help but succeed! Let me know how I can help you in this journey!

  • Hello Jimmy, you mentioned in one of your pod casts that you posted a sample of what you ate while losing all your weight... and now that you are on maintainence... can you let me know where i can find that info? thanks

  • THANKS SlimQuest! I posted six weeks of my menus at my low-carb links blog (go to lowcarblinks dot blogspot dot com and scroll down to find them).

  • Great video, guys! I'm nearly finished with DANDR, but I may have to put it on hold this week...it's gonna be a busy one... I'm definitely looking forward to finishing it, though! It really is a great tool. I'm just borrowing a copy from the library for now, but I'll probably buy my own copy someday soon.

  • You really oughta get your own copy to dog ear, highlight and reference back to early and often, TigerEyes2143. This is the kind of book you will definitely want on your bookshelf and I cannot recommend it highly enough to people who are livin' la vida low-carb. INVALUABLE! :)

  • Welcome back from your vacation...missed ya..!!! Again, another valuable video with wealth of info. Please note, I am one of your faithful viewers who always look forward to your next one...!!!

  • THANKS tiparker119! It's always great to hear from you and to know you are watching our videos. We had a GREAT time in the Smoky Mountains last week and couldn't wait to record this video for you!

  • It's amazing, all of these lies and distortions about the Atkins diet would be put to rest if they would simply open the book for themselves. How hard is it to do something as simple as that?

  • Hey, I've been there with paying $100 a pop for textbooks in grad school, so I feel your pain. Yes, I exercised during my Atkins weight loss in 2004 and still enjoy it today. Getting your diet right first is most important and the exercise will come.

May I ask why you want to be a vegetarian? There are so many health benefits to consuming animal fats, so I'm just curious.

  • Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution is my diet Bible!!! I have been following this plan, losing weight, gaining energy ;the list goes on. Jimmy, I'm loving the videos almost as much as your podcast. Thanks again for all your low carb info. Linda from NY

  • Absolutely Linda! DANDR is THE Bible for those of us who are on the Atkins diet. Glad you enjoy the videos as much as we do making them! Your support is so much appreciated!

  • I've had the book since day ONE!!! And I go back to it daily. I really love the videos you two :)

    So cute *PINCH*

  • OUCH! Don't pinch so hard. :D

THANKS Oh2BFit! We appreciate your support and encourage you to keep on livin' la vida low-carb!

  • Thank you again for the wonderful information you post on YouTube about low carb living.

I went to the library for my reading of the Dr. Atkin's book because I couldn't find it in the local stores where I live. The Library is always a good choice when you are trying out a new diet or a new method of doing something. They have tons of books, so you can check out everything in reference to what you are interested in and then choose the best one based on your own opinions.

  • I like the library, too, but there are some books you'll want to take a highlighter to and reference often. Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution is one such book for me. Even four years after starting this lifestyle, I still have a lot to learn.

  • I've really enjoyed all your videos. I really couldn't agree with this one more. I get so tired of the people who think that low carb means no fruit or vegetables! Most of them have not read any book and are just repeating what they've heard in the media. Keep up the good work!

  • THANKS ladymd001! That's one of the reasons we decided to start this video series on YouTube because there are so many needless misconceptions about livin' la vida low-carb that are just not true. READ THE BOOK! :D

  • Great video! I just subscribed. You have quite the personality. And congratulations on your weight loss so far!

  • THANKS delicatepetals! My wife and I have a good time making these videos, so I encourage you to check them all out. Most people say Episode 2 was their favorite one so far. I can't say that I disagree, but watch them all to decide for yourself. Take care and THANK YOU for your sweet note!

  • No problem. Oh, I want to ask you, did you exercise while you were on the Atkin's diet?

I'm a student, and I do kind of want to start the Atkin's diet, but I haven't not had the chance to get the book, well, because textbooks are digging a hole in my wallet. Anyhow, I did search online, but I am trying to be a vegetarian... So, any suggestions?

  • I got my Atkins books from the library. Great reading.

  • Read it, absorb it, and let it become all that you live and breathe as it relates to diet, Shannon! You'll be glad you did. THANKS as always for watching. :)

  • Thanks Jimmy, nothing like following the instructions. I am on my second time through Atkins' book after eight weeks on the plan. Lost 30 lbs. so far with 128 to go.

I would like to see you post a vid on organic. What it is and what are any health benefits you believe these products provide.

  • THANKS harknii! You're gonna do AWESOME with your low-carb lifestyle and I'm so proud of your progress so far. KEEP IT UP!!! :)

I'll take your suggestion about organic foods under consideration because it is an important subject to separate the fact from fiction. THANK YOU for watching our videos!

  • Excellent metaphor. Excellent message. Don't forget the books can be found at just about any public library - can't beat free!

  • THANKS djdruc! That's true about the books being at the library for free, but you'll want your own copies for frequent reference. ;)
