Listen Amis you idiot. You have lead a charmed life. 1. 9-11 was an inside job. So stop wasting your time trying to read meaning into what you are told the likes of Mohammed Atta thought, said, and did. 2. This interpretation of all contemporary politics as primarily about gender and sex is a very clear case of projection by a life-long womaniser facing the 'end of all that'.
Intellectual revolution within Islam? Sounds great! Can't wait! In the meantime, can't we westerners just realize that citizenship is not a human right and do the sane thing, the thing we do in our own homes to keep murderers and looneys out: shut the goddamn door on 'em!
I enjoyed Time's Arrow - it travels backwards through the life of a Nazi Auschwitz doctor and is very powerful, particularly when he writes about the Holocaust. I was amazed that he was accused of anti-Semitism by some.
I love amis! Read his latest book "the second plane". He's been taken horribly out of context by the islington dinner party circuit. He's really quite nice & liberal. He thinks very clearly.
I know, Amis is one of the biggest cheerleaders for multiracialism (as opposed to multiculturalism) - those who have judged Amis based on his frank admissions of the odd racist urge since 9/11 have been too eager to right him off as a card carrying bnp member (like that loser terry eagleton, who's still ranting on about marxism whilst the rest of the world has moved on)
I thought he'd gotten over his forty-something crisis circa The Information in 1995, yet here he is, sporting the mid-life leather. He pulls it off though. I have a Southbank show with Mart regarding Experience. One day I'll put it up here.
Amis is very charismatic, intelligent, handsome etc - the kind of guy other guys wanna be. A bit like Brando or Jack Nicholson. He seems hell bent on slandering Islamism though...not all islamists are women hating psycos..tsk tsk Marty
"9-11 was an inside job"
And all the people in the mental wards really are Napoleon Bonaparte...

'inside job'. Oh gawd. Another one,
Just for the fun of it, how about sharing your theory of what happened with us.

On "moderate" Ayatollah al-Sistani's injunctions on sex:
"....And some of his advice about sex I found quite helpful. Quite.... moderate really."
lolololol
these are the moments where you must *heart* Amis. Even when he's terrified, he never loses sight of the important things.

Good post - Martin is always at his best when he avoids fiction.

He thinks he's a rock star. He almost reminds me of Nick Cave in this clip. And he has the accent of a Disney cartoon villain.
