@aconaway1 dude, you are an idiot, Tressel has only played the SEC twice and sure they both beat him but the LSU game was a blacked punt away from being MUCH closer...so the guy is 0-2 against the all mighty SEC he also beat one of the greatest college football teams of all time in the Miami Hurricanes in the 2002 National Championship and has played great on the big stage the majority of the time, exceptions being 3 games (Florida, LSU, and USC).
@MrHORSEtheMAN- Actually, he's played the SEC three times. South Carolina won in 2001 with a last second field goal. Tressel is 0-3 against the SEC. Hate to point it out but facts are facts.
No shit he's a good football coach. We should have fired Pooper and gone after Tressel in the mid 90's. Think about the 1998 team - think we woulda won a National Championship if Tressel was the coach? Hell yeah!
all of u idiots need to stop criticizing tressel and the good he has done for ohio state, 3 national championship appearances in the last 6 years, come on who other than southern cal has had that kinda of dominance, all of u "never played sports before fans" need to get a life and stop hating on a truly great program in the Ohio State buckeyes which will continue to appear in National Championship games for years to come!
No, they're not. They are the reason we are recruiting so well right now. They are the reason that we are consistently winning games.
Jim Tressel delivered our first national title in 34 years. He knows what he's doing. He got us to a title game when we had 60% of our positions held by first year players.
The man knows how to coach and you must give him credit. If you don't you just show your football ignorance.
I give him all the credit in the world. He is a great football coach and besides Carroll, the best in the business today.
I'm just saying he has mediocre coaches (Heacock) around him coaching a championship caliber team.
This year Ohio State will need to rely on their offense, which is pretty non-traditional. There's no way they could possibly rely on their defense. They need to get the ball into the hands of Wells as much as possible.
I don't know...there's a reason Woody won 3 National Championships, 13 Big Ten titles and 205 games during his time at Ohio State.
The defense has proven that they are unreliable. This has a lot to do with poor schemes and relience on the front-4 to make it into the backfield instead of continued blitzing (note Michigan vs. Florida, 2008 Capital One Bowl).
If you control the ground game, you control the clock and you control the game (note Illinois, 2007).
Our schemes are fine. Every defense relies on the front four to win. The goal is to have the front four provie pressure. If you constantly blitz you leave yourself open to attack from the defense.
Oh, and Michigan did not play a good defensive game against Florida. They gave up 35 points and over 350 yards.

It is, but it's not. If a team can't stop a play, you keep running it until they can. That was Woody's philosophy, and it is as true today as it was when he was coaching. If a team can't stop Chris Wells, you keep running him. You don't mix it up, you keep it in Wells' hands.
So our schemes of maintaining 5-10 yards of cusion between the secondary and the wideouts is a good scheme, allowing the QB to pick the secondary apart while not putting a lot of pressure on the QB???
You don't give the ball to Beanie on every play. That is a stagnant offense that will be stopped. Teams will put 8 men in the box and he will have no where to go. Yea, if he was picking up 5 yards on every carry then you continue to give it to him. But he's not going to get 5 yards on every carry.
You want us to play man to man against everyone? Fine. We will get burned on big plays then.
If you actually watch and diagnose our games you will notice we play a variety of schemes on defense.
Wells averaged 5.9 ypc last season. When they put 8 guys in the box, you run double tight with a stacked backfield, much like Tressel ran in 2001. It may or may not work.
So how do you respond to Urban Meyer? Following the game they asked him what type of adjustments he made...he basically said why change when they never adjusted. He said this on national TV.
Chris Spielman...someone who knows a little about defense called Heacock out on the radio following the LSU loss as well.
Don't forget that Tressel's 4th win was on his 9th try. The BCS game in New Orleans was Tressel's 12th championship game, and after 10years in NCAA Division I-A they will all count toward his career record. This is nothing short of amazing, if you ask me. Tressel is a championship savant, in my opinion.
Well you better hope they do better than last year. We all remember the almighty Gators making a fool out of Troy Smith don't we? Just kidding. I can't stand Les miles to go Ohio State.
That guy is also a pretty good cheater...

Tressel's only a good coach if he plays inferior teams. Paul Johnson showed him up in 1999. The entire SEC shows him up year after year.

Are you forgetting that YSU was 4-0 against GSU prior to that game in 1999? Guess so.

When was the last time appearing in national championships good enough for Ohio State?
I agree, Ohio State is a steller program right now, but the coaches Tressel has around him are holding the program back (Heacock & Bollman).

Are you serious?
Teams don't go in relying on anything. This team will have experience on offense and defense. Something they have not had since 2003.
And continually giving the ball to Beanie is not a good plan. Eventually teams stack the line and cut off running room.
I would love to see us pass more and run less actually.

Tressel needs to figure out how to beat an SEC team. Our record against SEC teams in bowl games is 0-9, and he's accountable for 1/3 of those losses.
He needs to shake up his coaching staff. He needs to get rid of both of his coordinators.

Maybe Tressel should have brought Youngstown State to New Orleans. Maybe they would have put up a better fight than Ohio State.
