Killary diving; getting too close to a conger

I was diving the 'Drake' in Rathlin a few years back and drifting over this yawning black gap in the wreck pointed my torch inside to see what I could see. The blackness remained inky black but two green lights winked on in the void and they were spaced way too far apart to be attached to anything good. We are talking mega conger here! - I moved on trying not to look like I was worried (total fail!).

there goes the camera! Gosh even the water is emerald green, seriously Ireland is so beautiful. I dream of climbing those cliffs someday.

@ThousandShakes Ha ha, we regard the green water thing as a bit of bummer actually, but I can see your point all the same. It's only until you fly over other countries and they're NOT green that it strikes you how verdant Ireland is.

. If he does get hold of your hand, cut his head off with the knife you should always carry. If his head cannot be reached with the other hand, keep a steady pull with the trapped hand. then suddenly push the hand down his throat and whip it back in the same movement, the theory being that as your pull slackens, he relaxes his grip to get a better bite, giving you at least a small chance of withdrawing the hand whole. It might work—anyway it is nice to feel there is a plan of escape laid down.

Same kinda thing happened to me Dad's Diving buddy, 'cept the camera was stolen by the eel. Guy got such a fright, he dropped it and the Conger made away with it lol

Was this at Inis Bearna, by any chance. I had a conger down there recently, who seemed to be going for my camera a lot. I think bitch slapping them tends to calm them down a bit. Just don't put that on video, the animal rights people would be all over us!!!
