  • Raw, awesome Stranglers power ... one of the formative experiences of my then-young life ... gut-busting music, a crowd gone wild, coppers standing by not knowing quite what to make of it all and nekkid girls ...

  • The keyboards are definitely acid trip worthy.

  • this right here is better than woodtock 99 will ever be. wish i could live this

  • do you know where i can find the full concert?

  • Fantastic footage, going to see them tomorrow night at the 02 Academy in Glasgow

I live quite close, jump a bus and in '5 minutes i'm almost there' ;-) arf arf! Cant wait

    Longevity to the Stranglers!

  • @hangemhigh1968

How was the concert? Gosh, I miss Glasgow! It's the best city in the world. Long live Scotland and the Scots! ♥

  • best band ever

  • fuck yeah. too bad i couldnt live through this. great show

  • This is fucking GoldDust! Thanks for posting this, from a very ardent, angry M.i.B. fan, cheers mate. Stranglers are still THE best ever!

  • bass sounds like a rageing fucking monster,,love it

  • @rudydynxx he runs it through a regular guitar amp/speaker rips the speaker to shreds. Real live classic punk band no matter what anyone says. Friggin great music. Burnel is a black belt 6th dan karate expert. Hugh Cornwell holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry.

  • @cordedpoodle yeah my fav band,,been into them for over 30yrs,seen them countless times,,still a great live act to this day.dont get bands like this anymore, its a shame, stranglers forever and ever,,cheers man

  • @rudydynxx Thats what you call a NASTY bass line

  • I was there also, been trying to remember the song Peter performed. We shared our area of the audience with 'Jesus' dressed in white cloth, nearly naked, long hair. Memories. The music was the best.

  • Where did you find this video ...?

I've hunted for years to try & get this - Nice n Sleazy was fukin brilliant.

  • Still the best rock n roll band ever!

  • JJ's bass is absolutely amazing! Dude is a legend.

  • nice to see my old girlfriend again !!!!

  • Just well done, my friend! Well done. We want the one where they supported the Who at Wembley and left nothing but tumbleweed for Townsend to pick up afterwards! Can you, please?

  • Part of that has been uploaded it will come up if you search for shah shah a go go live but it is very bad quality picture

  • I wish this true fab four would get back together. Beatles v the Stranglers? Michael McIntyre v Frankie Boyle in contemporary terms. Oh, God! You must need your Satan in musical terms for posterity's sake. Don't water it down with the Stones!

  • Fantastic find! You have my utmost respect, my friend. This group are better than the Beatles to those who love edgy. ISure, they weren't so palatable but nor was Darwin in his day.Or Jesus.

  • brilliant thx

  • That must be the bass that got stolen. It's got that magic sound that I fell in love with when I first heard them. I remember JJ saying in an interview that he never found another that sounded quite the same.

  • Fenders at that time where known for their uneven quality. Doesn't surprise me he had trouble finding another that sounded like it.

  • the strippers are really quite a teaser -were they only onstage during nice´n´sleazy?

  • Two things about the show that I remember so well are 1) Peter Gabriel as support beginning his set with a punk rock version of Whiter Shade of Pale and 2) The Strippers - no one would ever forget that! As a 15 year old it was like someone dropped a free lap dance right in front of you!

Seriously though this show was amazing.

  • the strippers are not shown here

    :)

  • @RippingFadedSmiles They hadn`t come on yet...nice `n sleazy,nubiles!?

  • Ah Battersea. It was all squats in the mid to late seventies. Nice park, shame it's south of the river.

  • i think baz warne is great......being himself and not trying to be like hue.but this makes you realize how good hue was.

  • I was led to believe that JJ had his green sunburst precision pinched while they were touring the US in 1980 ish. Didnt they get their van stolen with all the gear in. I think Dave lost his old knackered electric piano at the same time. As did hugh with his original Telecaster.

  • The orignial grunge band!! All people trying to set up a band now should be forced to watch these early vids of The Stranglers. By the way JJ? What happened to that green sunburst Bass. I'd give anything to see you play that one again!

  • I think Burnel broke his green Fender Precision during a gig in Paradiso/Amsterdam/The Netherlands. Not entirely sure though...

Dave Greenfield was my excuse to buy a portable organ at the age of 15 & JJ Burnel was even a better excuse to buy a bass guitar two years later :)

Still make a living out of those decision today. Thank you gentlemen!

  • Was that a 1977 P bass by any chance? He said in an interview with Bass Player magazine that he split a 1977 P bass body in half in 1980 during a gig. Its probably the same one then.

  • I went to this gig and it was great.

  • The keyboards are too low

  • no there not. guitar is a bit though

  • Brilliant!

  • This video is all the more reason why Baz Warne sucks!!

  • Stranglers are a different animal. I mean, suite xvi is better than x. Things would of really sucked if they kept on as they were.

But yes, this is The Stranglers to me. And I'm not entirely fond of Baz. Gets along with JJ though, guess he must be alright.

  • jj burnell:pure energie

  • puunnnnnnnnnnnnnkkkkkkkkk rock .

  • that fuckin bass is hypnotic!!!

    class

  • The was go buddy go from the same gig seen it on here a couple of times but it was taken off!!!!Now that was good!!

  • When they were cutting edge-that bass still sounds like no other-is all of this gig available??.Previously only Peaches,HangingAround&NiceNSleazy were viewable from this concert. Why no DVD of the whole gig??-must be hours of footage like this from this era awaiting the light of day.Thx for posting though&the sound is crystal clear too!!

  • It does sound great, doesn't it?

Thanks for the share, i wish i could hop in my time machine and go there right this minute...

The late seventies/early eighties were prime.

  • First class.Never seen this before. Many thanks for posting.

  • This is really great! Love when JJ's bass hits in.

  • Great bass,Great band, nuff said

  • Great bass, great band, great keyboards! nuff said.

  • of course great keyboards

  • Nuff said :-)

  • this is as rare as rocking horse shit, so thanks so much for putting it up :-D

dave greenfield, was one of the best keys guys of the 70's and even the 80's but NEVER got his accolades due to his association with the stranglers.

  • Bloody hot day. Still at school then. Great memories. Still love them.
