  • I met Johnny Rabb, before, got him to sign my ride, and then had a very personal 5 person clinic with him. I can assure you ge is really a great, fun guy who just loves drums.

  • "JOHN STOP PLAYING YOUR FUCKING DRUMS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET"

  • what sticks do you use for this? 7A?

  • Besides being a great drummer, Rabb just cracks me up... he's fun, and does not seem to take himself too seriously...

  • I love the fact that not only is Johnny Rabb a NUTS player, he's just a hilarious guy. I hope to be one 32nd of the drummer he is one day!

  • Charley Sheen plays drums?

  • if you do this in class with a pencil the teachers get pissed :)

  • @ritalinrush or the students. . . i dont do when the teacher talks, they scare me.

  • @thisisformusiconly good point :)

  • @ritalinrush I've actually done that, and the teacher got pissed lightening fast.

  • @Deluxeta hell yeah man keep it up XD

  • Drums have served you well, that's a big house.

  • the intro sounds awesome, does there exist a full version somewhere?

  • who said the rev died, he became this guy :)

  • i do these the exact same way as he does them, everyone else i know tries to do them straight i do them from the side like he does. works much better, more power this way.

  • watch?v=02ral5wf7to&feature

  • is this the same gravity blast technique?

  • ONEEe TWWOoo THRREee FOURRrrr

  • This technique is fantastic and quite easy to learn. Great idea

  • That's a big ass snare drum all right.

  • What if you use traditional grip? I guess you only use the right hand or is there a way to do it with the left as well?

  • just ordered this book, any feedback about it?

  • He is Mr. Freehand

  • He´s an alien :-)

  • Big snare drum. What size is this?16"? By the way, this guy is amazing!

  • a drum genius...innovative....can anybody give me some tips on how to improve drumming skills..is watching videos can help? thanks guys.

  • a drum genius...innovative....can anybody give me some tips on how to improve drumming skills..is watching videos can help? thanks guys

  • @aeroplus practice everything slow and make sure every tiny detail is perfect until you speed it up. Practice atleast half an hour a day and make sure you have goal when you practice. Don't just sit down and starting hitting things. It's good to do that sometimes but you don't get much out it technique wise. Check out people Gavin Harrison, Jojo Mayer, Benny Greb, etc and learn everything they have to teach. And stay confident.

  • @Str8Faced thanks mate..have a good drumming career... how long youve been playing ..can you already play any genre without having difficulties?

  • @aeroplus I've been playing about 8 years and I could handle any genre but I'm certainly not specialized in them all. I can play metal very well but I can't double bass as fast or consistant as some of these guys (yet) and I can play jazz but I can't play left hand and left foot triplet patterns while keeping the swing time on the ride and accenting on the kick, but I will be able to do these things eventually! I usually just focus on accenting different pieces of whatever song I'm playing.

  • @Str8Faced wow so i considered you an expert, what particular problems that you encounter while learning?, ive been playing for 3 years now, i can play rock, and more on praise song i played in the church, havent played jazz yet, but i can do different funk beat patterns, did you enter music school? or you just learned on your own?do you know how to read notes? hopefully we can be friends. you have fb account?one of these days ill try to record my drumming and let you evaluate it.

  • He looks like Ned from Ned's Declassified.

    Still a superb drummer though

  • @zeppelinman4232 lets find that neighbor and teach him a lesson

  • nice, my rim its too hight so its pretty hard to do this

  • i want that track!!

  • what is the title of the music?

  • Id buy this if it were a dvd

  • whats that musik under the video?

  • oh man... this will kinda interfere with dave weckl's special stick grab i was working on, or?

  • this dude is sickkk

  • I've always wanted a real controlled way of gravity blasts...

  • @PisolMan I think we all have my friend. :)

  • is that a 16'' x 4.5''??

  • @zeppelinman4232 most peoepl are. i had to sell my kit beause of mine....

  • holy. cow.

  • The Master of Rolls

  • hello :) you are not just a good drummer. you are good human too :) friendly i think ) good luck :) thx for teaching

  • Hey check this guy....He s the only one I ' ve seen doing this rim fulcrum thing with trad grip....monstrus

    Kostas Anastasiadis pure energy

  • is it just me or does he look like he's always stoned? either way, johnnys the man. im suprised he got this from kenwood though, kenwood is one of the last guys youll hear bringing this up around berklee. you diiggg?!??!?!!?!

  • Which Song is it at the beginning of the Video?

  • I'm pretty good at the freehand technique but I can always hear the rim, suggestions?

  • @0ddinary you're always going to hear a little bit of the rim. dont stress over it. None of your bandmates or nobody in your audience can hear it.

  • @jjdrummer108... Er... Yea.. Wanna a banana...?

  • LMFAO FREE HAND? ALSO KNOWN AS A FUCKING GRAVITY BLAST HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH

  • @jjdrummer108 the freehand is the gravity roll. A gravity blast is a blast beat with the gravity roll in it, which means the hi hat or something and the bassdrum is added.

  • @jjdrummer108 No its not. Thats just what metaldrummers call it and when did any of them ever display any playing of interest..

  • definantly in my top 5.... GO RABB!!!

  • it looks like a nice technique but i have never seen another pro drummer use it,do research before buying,it seems like above and beyond the intermediate drummer because it only sounds good at high speed,so if your still struggling with para-diddles you wont be able to do it.

  • That's just beast.

  • I have a lesson with him later this month. I'm practically counting down the hours I'm so excited!

  • Plays PDP??? great...

  • my rim sticks up high and makes a bad fulcrum, but it is star cast so not complaining. this guys tight though imagine doing that across the kit!

  • @DevinCarmichael You should check out his solos, he does just that. He's amazing and comes across like just the nicest guy. I would love to meet him, I bet he's such a lovely humble chap in the flesh. Go Johnny!

  • Great looking book, but I have no capacity to learn lol. And btw, is it just me or does his voice sound just like Charlie Sheen?

  • UuuAllll!!!

  • I've got the book and it's really helpfhul to learn that technique. great book from a great guy.

  • Johnny Rabb is a really cool drummer.I tried to make some freehand technique stuff from his book, but it's very hard to play with both hands, but i try to make it better every day..... Johnny RULES

  • that dude is theeee man

  • now all i wanna see is someone doing this with both hands and precisely alternating between every hit with the left and the right hand, creating the fastest drumroll evaarrrrrr...

  • johnny rabb is the man at one handed rolls i wish i could be that good

  • He reminds me of Charlie Shean. LOL

  • Well looks like I'm going to Guitar Center tomorrow to buy this and Derek Roddy's Evolution of the Blast Beats.

Are there any practice pads that can be used? Most have no rim on them.

  • the remo turntable one?

  • Is that the one that is simply the pad with a remo head over it and the plastic rim that screws into place? I have one of those and it's too small to be effective.

  • yes lol. sorry i dont know any others.

  • It's ok. I don't know of any either. Somebody at Remo, Promark, or Vater should get on this. Haha.

  • i agree!

  • hmmm i think a traps e mesh pad, or roland, also there are mesh pads by a company called dragon they, are actual drum size

  • @shortbuspileup . Use any practice pad that's large enough and tape a pencil across one edge - thats the rim!

  • Remo sells a pad with rims on it, but I don't know if they make it in 14 inch/whatever size you need.

  • @Mrbuffington actually for me i found that the ones without a rim allowed me to make a much smoother transition back to the snare. Also, it opens up the option of using it on instruments that dont have rims, like hi-hats or cowbells and things like that.

  • @feedfuck really? that's pretty cool, i'll have to look into that, thanks!

  • @shortbuspileup ... there are a few practice pads that come with rims ... i think remo has one , vater has one i think

  • The Offworld Invader pad is absolutely incredible. It's like 12 or 13 inches and has a rim on it. A little pricey by TOTALLY worth it.

  • does anyone know the d&b song playing in the background?

  • very very interesting....

  • I wonder what would the neighbors say(???)

  • his neighbor probably calling a cop as he speaks

  • It just amazes me how many different tones Johnny can pull out of just one drum. He's definitely one of those monumental drummers in history that's shaped the sound and style of drumming for all time, kind of like Buddy Rich, Gene Kruppa, Ringo Star, and many many other drummers who have made the break through that's shaped what playing drums really is.

  • Johnny = great guy, fantastic drummer!....

  • lol thats like a gravity blast

  • @Superchocolatedonut no, gravity blast is like the free hand technique.

  • No, "gravity" blast do not exist. The real name is freehand blast, but a lot of guys called this "gravity"

  • call*

  • he likes a lot pdp

  • who doesn't?

    DW best ever

  • this is the same as gravity blast, right? freakin awesome technique!

  • that's a great technique, i use it also sometimes.

  • Official? Then officially call it the "Rabb-it" stroke.

Is that a 15" snare, or is this guy really small?

  • he always looks so funny while playing :D good one!

  • Snare is a 14" PDP Platinum Series drum

  • NICE WORK BRO!

  • hes only one of the greatest drun n bass drummers around at this time :)

  • i ment drum n bass :)

  • I knew I was going to get a thumbs down. I am just being honest. Every time he plays, it's the one handed roll. I just want to see something new.

  • No, he's also an excellently trained horse.
