I visited the Stax museum in Memphis two years ago and was impressed that they did everything (except press the records) in one building during the 60's and 70's. It's awesome that Daptone is doing the same thing!
Hey, i noticed that he said that one of the benefits of analog tape over digital is that it preserves the higher harmonics. But i would say that the exact opposite is true! In fact, tape rolls off all that high shizzle, hence the warm sound which focuses more on the mid-range - strange that he doesn't know that!
@Dazzer1234567 Not true. When you think vinyl, that fuzzy noise sound comes to mind, which does it's part, (especially with lower grade vinyl) to degrade the high frequencies, but in actuality, the process of converting an analog signal to digital limits the signal with a "sample rating" (the auditory version on pixels). High frequencies are effected greatly by this process.
a friend of mine just sent me this link - makes me want to get a reel-to-reel recorder, a Hammond Organ, and put aside all the digital gizmos that all but took analog's place
We are happy to se that Daptone studios uses TUBE-TECH LCA2B and SMC2B for their productions. Thank you from your analog friends from Lydkraft, Denmark.
I miss splicing tape !

By the time a tape recording gets to cd, the harmonics are chopped off the top too.
