Wonder why he didn't eject. Don't these planes have altimeters and a ground proximity alarm? If there can't be an automatic warning based on radar or altimeter, can't there be an observer on the ground who can scream at the pilot, "EJECT!" if they see he's about to fly into the ground?

I've read alot of these comments, and I have to say a lot of'em are wrong. Russian airplanes are high angle of attack crafts, which means they will stall easy. High Angle or High Alpha, simply means the ability to point the nose of the aircraft in any given direction. But when this is done, the aircraft will continual to move in the direction it was heading until speed is reduced to allow sufficient air flow over the wings, he ran out airspace. He could have recovered, if he had Thrust Vectors.
@nolifemerc Its hard to say exactly what went wrong, there is a chance this crash is similar to the F16 crash many years ago where the pilot set the ground level a 1000 feet out on the altimeter( in that case he was in the mountains) Pilots learn to trust thier instrument over their eyes in combat training and night flying. The one thing that is fact is that Russian ejector seats are excellent and I would of expected him to punch out at 100 feet.. RIP that pilot he was there for the people

The F-117 crashed due to a maintenance tech who did not correctly install the bolts that hold the end of the wing on. He thought he knew better then the designers of the plane.

why would they do that? the su-27 was a plane capable of things western fighters couldn't do when it came out - and without a fancy fly by wire control system. it relied more on pilot skill and control and unfortunately departures from controlled flight and/or bad judgement happened.... and this is why crashes like this happen.

@thewebmaster93---I was there that day already started off bad because before SU-27 there were two accidents, the driver of a motor glider landed too fast and the nose gear sold at the end of the runway, then a lightweight because of the fund very irregular lost control on landing and rolled over.
Finally, perhaps the pilot of 'SU-27 was closed too early looping, gave full throttle, he straightened the plane and managed to take away from spectators,

why would they do that? the su-27 was a plane capable of things western fighters couldn't do when it came out - and without a fancy fly by wire control system. it relied more on pilot skill and control and unfortunately departures from controlled flight and/or bad judgement happened.... and this is why crashes like this happen.
