After Mythic gave a LITTLE love back to the scout a few years ago, just enough for Scouts to be good - if played properly, geared properly, RR 6L5+, ML10 [and CL 10 if no buff bot] -- since then nerfs. In 2010 I finally had enough and decided to call it quits. Out of all my toons, Hibs, Mids, Albs, the Scout was my favorite - more challenging than others to play properly.
Molvik made up for much of [old] frontier. Mythic, ever wonder why many thousands left the best MMO? -- Nerfs.
this is the game that started most all the new mmorpgs..this is it. this is the one. all wow players care about is PvP..this is the best PvP game out there. why did they ever quit?! they have like what, 50+ raids an stuff? and DAoC has like hundreds?! .. fans were lost because a lack of common sense i believe.. im rejoining this game for sure

IT saddens me the state of the game today...it was soo amazing back in the day and if it had an updated engine and kept most of its core mechanics...it would blow all these other games out of the water. Why a company hasn't taken many of the aspects from this game and made their own is just odd.

catacombs really changed that graphic.best rvr game ever,i mean 3 realms with over 40 different classes,k some mirror classes for sure but a lot of new also.. i liked playing it 8 years :) maybe i should reactivate my subscription,have a 11l4 necromancer :)

it isnt always about the graphics...surely there had been an engine update several years ago, but the rvr/pvp mechanics of this game are so uniqe and after 10 years even fun to play.
on the other hand the engine of the game is practical and it doesnt need overwhelming graphics, because if it is so, you need a very high end pc to play fluently rvr with 100+ ppl

If the game looked like it does in this video at the Release date of the game, it makes me wonder.......WHAT THE HELL DID THE DEVELOPERS DO WITH ALL THE MONEY THEY GOT FROM SUBSCRIPTIONS!?!?! oh the expansions........thats right but even the expansions don't look like they took a whole lot of time and effort and certainly not 30 million dolllars to develop
@Archanos123 shows how little you know....not only did they upgrade the graphics but they introduced new worlds alot more pve content, about 10 new classes through expansions...and a totally revamped frontier. Alot more than what you see in expansions such as wow....and it still kept its core pvp feeling. these "Next Gen" games have yet to even touch the in depth system of combat and pvp that this game had.
DAOC is the best PVP MMO hand dow that is not a preference but a fact play it once and you'll see ive played it since it released and im still in love with the game.
i really dont get the point with ppl complaining that toa killed the game.
surely it made it nearly impossible for casual gamers to compete, but mythic fixed it in the end.
As daoc is nowadays, it never has been better before. A shame that all these spoilers say that toa and nf killed everything. most ppl adopted this point of view

@ant1ph0n War is a wonderful example of what happens when someone steps forward looks at the past golden memory of DAoC - and ignorantly exclaims they can do it better. In the end, that person "steps down" and the game falls to pieces from there. War reminds me of a game made by people who have never grown up playing the types of table top rpgs (Dungeons and Dragons, Rolemaster, etc) that inspired DAoC to begin with.
i played myself and had some highchars,but i started to hate this game
Leveling was extremely dull and repetitive. Too much downtime while waiting for energy and endurance to replenish. Trials of atlantis was a pain. now you had to level equipment too.
Everytime mythic brought up something new, the game got worse and they never had an interest to block buffbots from game (of course, they earned money from the additional accounts^^)
RvR was fun though and the smaller Battlegrounds even more

Played DAoC for... 6 years or so. Played WoW for 4. DAoC destroyed WoW in every possible way. The only reason WoW is so successfuly is because they spent all kinds of money advertising it and they were already a huge company due to Warcraft and Starcraft.
Best PvP of all-time hands down! Well, until the release of Trials of Atlantis totally destroyed the integrity of the game and turned its community into assholes that cared about nothing short of personal gain and satisfaction. This game was the perfect example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Mythic didn't understand that one too well! Oh well....not my problem, I quit playin in 2004 and have enjoyed the extra cash and time outside my house since then! :P

Very humorous reading some of these comments. I'd put Shadowbane's pvp/training dynamic up against any and all pvp dynamics out there. But then, they are unworthy to be compared to Shadowbane:

Me and one of my friends are looking for a new MMO to play, I have played WoW, Aion, City of Heroes, Age of Conan and alot of other games, would you recommend DAoC?? I dont care about the graphics, just the gameplay has to be fun, good pvp (which i heard it has) and good leveling. If its a grind I can deal with it if its fun, what do you think?
I am a bit biased, as I have played for years on end, but I have played other mmo's and imo nothing can touch the pvp rule-set that DAoC has. Leveling has been nerfed like crazy, not too much grind there, people are very helpful and polite in game. Only downfall is that it is a complicated system, not a 1 click win like a lot of other mmo's. Ya get used to it though! :) Take the trial run, I do recommend it!

The greatest thing about this game was the PVP system. I remember looking at my frontier map and your watch towers, if armies come within a certain range of each, will show where the armies are headed. And some armies were huge... I also loved the different environments within the frontiers. Also, being able to take boats to travel, the trebuchets, the catepults... I mean, I've never seen any similar pvp model. I loved the animations too, especially when buildings would crumble before you.
Euro players are starting to come on US servers. maks for an amazing boost of population. If PvP is your thing in other WoW/clones, then you are not playing the right game. Doac has yet to be bested in the PvP business.
This video is really quite dated but it still stands that DAoC is very underrated as an MMO. It still isn't the most newbie friendly like certain obscure slash commands, but the new player areas are fun on their own, even when playing level 3 or 4 characters.
If you haven't played DAoC, I highly suggest you at least try the trial. It is the least you could do.
Still to this day, DAOC is the best mmorpg I've played. Today, most games offer a very limited selection of races and classes. No real distinction between realms. Here, each of the 3 realms had their own unique races and classes. To date, there are around 40+ classes. Another great feature was you can level up easily from both quests and hunting monsters. Most games have an xp grind and monsters give very little xp; thus force you to quest all the way thru. Best PvP as well.
I wish all the people who are still playing War would jump over to Daoc. Mythic doesn't have enough quality staff to divide them between two mmo's. IMO the better one to focus on is Daoc.
Oh and change the graphics back to Trials of Atlantis style, just polish the details and it'd look great. The characters look funky now.
Dear god, I hope that WoW bit was sarcasm. Warhammer has the new age feel i.e. the WoW feel, but thats just a matter of preference, MMO's don't have to play like cartoonish third person shooters with a few spells to be good.
The best thing about Daoc was the realm set up, which the generic elf vs. orc human vs. undead can't compete with, not to mention it is tri-realm which made for some great PvP when the realms were populated. You had to be playin between 2001-2006 to get the full effect
the pvp system is by far the best pvp system out there today
dont get me wrong though.. after playing it for 5 years off/on from launch.. it doesn't have the same great feeling when playing around launch.. after the gamebreaking expansions.. i quit the game about 6 months or so following.. came back when the classic servers were about to be launched and it just wasnt the same
nonetheless...... it still has the best pvp system.. it is just an outdated game

I thought the graphics were way cooler back then, and the loading screen was possibly the most epic image I had seen at the time. I wish they'd start over, improve the ToA graphics engine (take out all the ToA content, but it was the last expansion with genuine Daoc style graphics) and just let us play the game we love. Old frontiers FTW.
the "three-realm-system" is great and with the possibility to fight against a different realm and not only against a grp of other player like in WoW is genius.
i'm still palying DAoC on the EU-servers and i'll game till the end^^
These are the graphics from the original game, very old. Personally I enjoy the graphics from the third expansion the most (You get like 6 engines to run the game on, all of which are viable) I haven't played in awhile but with the server merges there should be around 3,000 to 4,000 players on at primetime, which is more than even the most popular server had during Daoc's golden years. IMO you should try it, get some friends too. A sense of community is the best trait Daoc has.
Its not as populated as WoW is, but its still got a player base, thats playable. Or you can play on the Freeshards which has a couple hundred people through out the servers.

has a loyal base of around 50,000 not big numbers but is still alive and going for a long while now. Think it had a few hundred thousand at its peak. Yeah it not mainstream appeal like WoW.

I played DaoC for 4,5 years and was the best mmo ive ever played, i think many want to move back but are afraid of the low numbers. Also DaoC has is a much harder game then wow and playerskill counts much more, if your a bad player in pvp you wont get a hit in against a good player. AND a BIG plus is, no FREAKING bunnyjumping all over the place!

Best MMORPG pvp system ever. In it's hay day, this was the best game on the market. no other game on any other console could compare to the fun this game provided.

They have copied some stuff. The game in its entirety? Not at all, WoW has a more noob-friendly approach, while DAoC (unfortunately) did not have.

I tried this game out when it first hit back in the day but my computer at the time was not strong enough to support it. I would love to give it a go now because my computer is insanely powerful.

When i was about 9 or 10 I really wanted to start this game for like a couple days but it was so complicated and all they had where beta keys and my dad was helping me get them but after like 2 months we never got one. I really would like to try this game out but it's kinda old now. its 2010 and it was like 2004 or 3 when i tryed

Me and one of my friends are looking for a new MMO to play, I have played WoW, Aion, City of Heroes, Age of Conan and alot of other games, would you recommend DAoC?? I dont care about the graphics, just the gameplay has to be fun, good pvp (which i heard it has) and good leveling. If its a grind I can deal with it if its fun, what do you think?

I am a bit biased, as I have played for years on end, but I have played other mmo's and imo nothing can touch the pvp rule-set that DAoC has. Leveling has been nerfed like crazy, not too much grind there, people are very helpful and polite in game. Only downfall is that it is a complicated system, not a 1 click win like a lot of other mmo's. Ya get used to it though! :) Take the trial run, I do recommend it!

It's very smooth and team-based. The whole deal with Warhammer and WoW is the whole "There's your spot, this is mine" deal.

The greatest thing about this game was the PVP system. I remember looking at my frontier map and your watch towers, if armies come within a certain range of each, will show where the armies are headed. And some armies were huge... I also loved the different environments within the frontiers. Also, being able to take boats to travel, the trebuchets, the catepults... I mean, I've never seen any similar pvp model. I loved the animations too, especially when buildings would crumble before you.

Euro players are starting to come on US servers. maks for an amazing boost of population. If PvP is your thing in other WoW/clones, then you are not playing the right game. Doac has yet to be bested in the PvP business.

This video is really quite dated but it still stands that DAoC is very underrated as an MMO. It still isn't the most newbie friendly like certain obscure slash commands, but the new player areas are fun on their own, even when playing level 3 or 4 characters.
If you haven't played DAoC, I highly suggest you at least try the trial. It is the least you could do.

Still to this day, DAOC is the best mmorpg I've played. Today, most games offer a very limited selection of races and classes. No real distinction between realms. Here, each of the 3 realms had their own unique races and classes. To date, there are around 40+ classes. Another great feature was you can level up easily from both quests and hunting monsters. Most games have an xp grind and monsters give very little xp; thus force you to quest all the way thru. Best PvP as well.

Uthgard freeshards, running classic DAOC, old frontiers. No TOA/CATs/LOTM anything, player crafted armor is the only thing from SI.

I wish all the people who are still playing War would jump over to Daoc. Mythic doesn't have enough quality staff to divide them between two mmo's. IMO the better one to focus on is Daoc.
Oh and change the graphics back to Trials of Atlantis style, just polish the details and it'd look great. The characters look funky now.

Dear god, I hope that WoW bit was sarcasm. Warhammer has the new age feel i.e. the WoW feel, but thats just a matter of preference, MMO's don't have to play like cartoonish third person shooters with a few spells to be good.
The best thing about Daoc was the realm set up, which the generic elf vs. orc human vs. undead can't compete with, not to mention it is tri-realm which made for some great PvP when the realms were populated. You had to be playin between 2001-2006 to get the full effect

STILL the best mmorpg out there, it's not mainstream and casual like WoW, but GDAMN is it a good game.
Still going strong after 8 years ;), maybe not populationwise, but gameplaywise.

the pvp system is by far the best pvp system out there today
dont get me wrong though.. after playing it for 5 years off/on from launch.. it doesn't have the same great feeling when playing around launch.. after the gamebreaking expansions.. i quit the game about 6 months or so following.. came back when the classic servers were about to be launched and it just wasnt the same
nonetheless...... it still has the best pvp system.. it is just an outdated game

I thought the graphics were way cooler back then, and the loading screen was possibly the most epic image I had seen at the time. I wish they'd start over, improve the ToA graphics engine (take out all the ToA content, but it was the last expansion with genuine Daoc style graphics) and just let us play the game we love. Old frontiers FTW.

in my oppinion daoc is the best MMORPG.
the "three-realm-system" is great and with the possibility to fight against a different realm and not only against a grp of other player like in WoW is genius.
i'm still palying DAoC on the EU-servers and i'll game till the end^^

These are the graphics from the original game, very old. Personally I enjoy the graphics from the third expansion the most (You get like 6 engines to run the game on, all of which are viable) I haven't played in awhile but with the server merges there should be around 3,000 to 4,000 players on at primetime, which is more than even the most popular server had during Daoc's golden years. IMO you should try it, get some friends too. A sense of community is the best trait Daoc has.

Its not as populated as WoW is, but its still got a player base, thats playable. Or you can play on the Freeshards which has a couple hundred people through out the servers.

has a loyal base of around 50,000 not big numbers but is still alive and going for a long while now. Think it had a few hundred thousand at its peak. Yeah it not mainstream appeal like WoW.

I played DaoC for 4,5 years and was the best mmo ive ever played, i think many want to move back but are afraid of the low numbers. Also DaoC has is a much harder game then wow and playerskill counts much more, if your a bad player in pvp you wont get a hit in against a good player. AND a BIG plus is, no FREAKING bunnyjumping all over the place!

I don't know why you're so critical of WoW. Out of all the RPG's I've ever played, WoW has the best PvP of them all.
I'm not saying it's better than this game's PvP (mainly because I've never played DAoC).

If you never played DAoC then you can't say WoW has the best pvp of them all, You simply haven't played it all.
DAoC's RvR will never be touched in terms of PvP. If you haven't experienced it its really hard to describe.
