I used a Kodak Zi8 pocket camcorder. Really a great little unit with HD video and good sound at high volume levels. Unfortunately they stopped making it, but they have others to replace it. Playsport or playtouch...

@wojomato Amen, R.I.P. my Zi8 which unfortunately couldn't swim. Replaced it with a Samsung W200, water and shockproof, quicker startup, better battery, but not quite as good sound quality...
