@slammedGP Aww damn you have to sell it? I've always wanted a modded L67 every since I got rid of my 99 Monte 3800. I will find one again soon hopefully.
i have a 98 and i was wondering about my boost gauge in the dash, when i take off it doesnt want to show that the psi is going up, is that an easy fix or do i have to buy a new one
To all who are interested in the gauge overlays, I just searched "whiteface gauges grand prix" on Ebay and found these. I haven't seen this exact set recently but I will check and find who makes the gauges and post it here. Apologies for the delay in responses!!
Well there could be another reason why it went "Chunkaroo"....235,867 miles. WOW. I got a 1995 SE and only 180,900 something miles. lol you should be happy that you got money so why not tear it up. There amazing cars anyway. There built for this. :)
Love the gauges man, I've picked up a gtp as a project for auto school. If you wouldn't mind telling me, I'd love to know what gauge face that is and where you got it?
His "idle rock issue" is due to the fact running a cam, my regal does the same thing nice build, my Regal has an XP hot Cam ported heads, blower, TB 42.5lbs injecters, Pacesetters, 180 T-Stat, 104's, SLP PlowerFlo Exhaust no cat, no rez
Where did you get that guage cluster with the blue lights? To add to this whole story about shitty gas it is very important to run high octane. Maybe even a mix of premium and race fuel. My 98 gtp has a 3.4 pulley and supporting mods, when gas was at it's all time high I put regular gas in. When I floored it the car died!
i have an 04 gtp. got the wizaired cai, iridium plugs and 180 tstat and 3inch dp with magnaflow cat all from zzp (except for the plugs). put in reg fuel.....when i give it gas the supercharger sounds like shit and the exhaust does not sound normal. does anyone have any clue why. could it be the fuel, or my stock pcm cant handle the power adders that i put into my car
gtpjoe, you shouldnt run regular fuel in a supercharged car. Especially one which is already prone to knock. GTPs are known for knock issues, particularly 04+. Even worse, once you mod them, you should NEVER run regular. Read around on ZZP, they explain this in more detail.
You have to run premium grade gas, 97 octane or higher, if you don't the motor will detonate and you will have no power and it will sound like shit. It will detonate because when you put hot compressed air from the supercharger in the combustion chamber which is also hot, regular gas will ignite prematurely, you put higher octane gas in there becuase it resists the heat better and it won't detonate
do you put 91 octoane in? If not that could be a problem and it may even be a clogged cat. i had a problem with that actually. It basically sounded like missfire under a load.
I used to modify parts for others, but lately i've been so busy with my job i haven't had the time. If i had more time on the side i would continue to do work for others for sure.
Purely for aesthetics. A little cleaner look under the hood and it's only slightly harder to change the oil. It really doesn't take me any longer than it did before.
Chipped piston. The result of an excessive amount of detonation, or pre-ignition. It all started with a bad valve seat which lead to a misfire, then a clogged cat, then the chipped piston.
Just curious, what was that piece you removed from the blower? Did you just do that to allow more airflow, that seems like a risky thing to do though but I'm sure you probably heard of that mod somewhere like on a forum, I dunno let me know.
Sorry for the terribly slow response...I removed quite a bit of material from the blower purely for increased airflow and volume. There are certain areas where removing material will cause problems, but other areas will show potential gains. The one extruded piece that i removed is just a separator for the boost bypass valve, but since i modded the intake manifold i no longer needed that extruded boss anymore.
I am getting a GT1 Cam put in with 105# Valve Springs, Valve Spring Retainers, Hi Tech Push Rods, and the Cam Install Kit. How long did it take you to put the cam in? And how long should it take a shop to do it?
I have a GT with a 512/520 Comp Cam and it took 5 days from start to finish. From the amount of work that there was and some of the problems my dad and i ran into i would never put my car in the hands of any shop mechanic. And you do know that it is quite a huge project...
and in general, would you happen to know what an aeroforce would cost? or where i could get one...and i was wondering what the title is of that rammstein song, its kind of a catchy song
The song is called "Wolt ihr das bett in flammen sehen". The Aeroforce ranges in price from $220-250, depending on where you look. If you like that Rammstein song, then you'll probably like these as well... Spiel Mit Mir Reise Reise Mein Teil Amerika Mann Gegen Mann Ramstein Rosenrot Ohne Dich
The upstream O2 sensor was disconnected, and the PCM had yet to learn the idle parameters for the size of cam i put in. It's normal for that to happen on first startup with a big cam.
i like ur car man, but i have a question, i have a '99 GTP with 152k miles on it, and im putting a 3.4 pulley, PCM, ported manifolds, 180* tstat, 3" DP, and 104 autolites in it, and someone told me that if i did this it would blow the engine up, do you agree with him, or do you think ill be fine?
Every car is different and responds to modification in different ways. The mods you listed are generally safe to run. Many many people run that setup problem free. What you have to watch for though is knock retard (KR). The purpose of the supporting mods like the colder plugs and t-stat, and freer flowing exhaust is to prevent knock. If your PCM does detect knock, it will retard the timing to reduce heat and hopefully prevent knock, and therefore engine damage.
Knock occurs when the mixture inside the combustion chamber combusts before the spark plug can ignite it. Then when the plug fires, you have 2 flame fronts colliding inside the combustion chamber, causing a massive amount of heat, force and pressure, which can destroy an engine. The knock sensors and PCM attempt to deter this by retarding the timing, but it isn't foolproof. If your PCM is retarding the timing, it is still bad. You should buy a scanner such as an Aeroforce to monitor KR.
Ideally you want 0 degrees of KR, then you know the combustion chamber temperature isn't too high and you are far less likely to have problems. If you do have KR, you can battle it by adding mods that reduce combustion chamber temp - freer exhaust - ported manis/powerlog/headers, u-bend delete, colder plugs and t-stat, cold air intake, larger SC pulley etc. If you are running more than 2 degrees of knock with the 3.4, then your car will be faster with the larger stock 3.8 pulley. Hope this helps
i found this on some site is it true that you can not use platinum spark plugs on a gtp ? ? ? As for the spark plugs...NEVER EVER use platinum on a forced induction motor (ie turbocharged, supercharged, nitrous injected). Platinum gets hot very easy and you don't want that. If cylinder temperature gets too hot, the fuel will pre-ignite.
You want to stay away from hotter plugs, platinum, iridium, or anything like that, moreso if you're modded. The best plugs for forced induction are copper core plugs. A colder range copper core plug such as Autolite 605, or Autolite 104 is you are more modded will help reduce pre-ignition/detonation.
If you have no mods then there is less chance of problems occuring, but every car is different. The only way to know for sure is to scan for KR (knock retard) to see if the plugs are causing knock. Being stock it shouldn't be a problem, but a lot of guys run Autolite 605's stock, which are under $10 for all 6 plugs. Good Luck!
Hey i have a 98 gtp bone stock best run 15 flat quarter mile i was thinking about getiing 3.4 pully do i have to do other mods for it to be relible and how much diffence is there anyone
With a 3.4, you're going to get more boost. More boost needs more fuel, or else you'll run lean. Get a reprogrammed PCM (DHP or ZZP), get a 3" DP and possibly ported exhaust manifolds. I know it sounds like a lot, but if you want it reliable, do everything necessary. Colder plugs (104's) help with KR issues too. Always run premium if you're going to be going 100+ also. :) Good luck!
honestly you dont really NEED to do that much to make it reliable...the only must is to run premium and get a supercharger coupler. The exhaust and pcm and stuff will bring out the pulley but its not necesarily a must in order to have one. If you wanna just do a pulley and nothing else just go with a 3.5 and run premium lol
dont call me stupid dude...i ran a 3.4 with the coupler, colder plugs, and CAI with no KR at all except a little on the top end. Even though these cars have the same engines, they all run so different its not even funny so dont tell me something you obviosly know nothing about
well its been a year and the "bomb" you were talking about is now in high 12s....pulley size all depends on the cars dude...if your scanning and your knock free with a small pulley then guess what you have enough mods...quit reading the "suggestions" on how to mod from the cites and thinking your educated...unless youve done it stfu...that is all
So yeah dude, you do NEED mods to run anything smaller than the stock pulley. Do, FWI, plugs, stat, downpipe and tune. I would suggest adding a PLOG and a 3.5 pulley instead.
I have to admit that was a sick build up video....1 problem....what did it run after the build up???? the vid was great but all we saw was the enige at idle at the end at least give us a 0-60 pull. Tease!
I didn't get a chance to run it at the track because it didn't get tuned until late fall, and the tracks were all closed. Just look at my profile and click on my newest 0-100mph video. It is with a bad O2 sensor and it's pig rich, but it should give you somewhat of an idea what it should do.
Thanks very much. It is much appreciated. I think i'll make another video tomorrow, the only crappy part is i don't have any footage of it running it's best. The best acceleration video i have is with a 3.4 pulley on and the O2 is messed up. Oh well, it will have to do for now until spring.
I for some reason had an exhaust restriction that led to boost stacking, which resulted in massive knock retard. It was suffering from detonation due to the excessive heat from the boost stacking, so when the two combustion fronts collided in the combustion chamber there was too much force on the one piston causing it to chip off at the edge.
ohhhoohhhh i like the sound of that. i miss my 99 GTP, old lady ran a red on me an totaled it :-( GTP+ K&N cold air+ straight pipes = lots of fun

It was caused by a couple things...
