  • Because of this video i found out about chaka khan, and I love it.

  • Us DJ's take it for-granted that others don't hear the rhythm and subtle beats that go into creating a smooth mix. I forgot to mention the Madonna- Get Together song that also sampled from Chaka Khans Fate.

  • FYI: Fate "Inspired" Madonna's "Holiday" before Stardust. Fate really could have been a great dance version release.

  • donde esta el sample completo de Chaka Khan

  • they just took the kinda guitar sound thats it

  • even if T-bang had stuck with stardust instead of going to daft punk, they would still have become famous and Guy-Manuel would have gotten more know because of Le Knight Club

  • Genius, but imma say this. Stardust, Daft Punk, Armand Van Helden, Junior Jack were clever to recognize great parts of classic songs. And lot of occasions they just put a random beat under it. Fox example in Armands case in Full Moon. Its a dancefloor destroyer 'do.

  • I love these sample origin videos.

  • people that say sampling is crap dont have any idea how pop music is made since the beggining:) cheers to the normal people who liek to listen to music not think and make theories lol

  • omg lol i think it's much harder too find a good sample out of a song and prepare it than to create a new sound :D So don't say they stole it or something

  • Sampling a song isn't exactly easy. The hardest part is finding the sample. Once you do, you have to do all this cutting and slicing to fit it to your beat. Then, you have to eq, master it, add multiple effects tweaked just right...sampling is no easy process, 90's house tracks took about 2 years to release, on average.

  • @deadsinscoryander12 thats true daft punk even worked on their album discovery for 2 years and began to produce ONE MORE TIME in september 98 and the release was in november 2000 ^^

  • Chaka is the most sampled singer period!!! LOL!!! From her singing style to her accompanying music!!! What else is new? A lot of you all are only catching up to what many of us Chakaholics have always known-She's a musical genius that was way way ahead of her time & really only thoroughly appreciated by other muscians & singers!!! She is what is what is known in the biz "A Singer's Singer"!!!

  • @TyjaluvsChaka i think chacka khan is awesome!!!

    so is stardust and daftpunk!!!

its a good mix of the two

  • Daft Punk is/are one/two of the greatest music makers of our/my time.

  • @kidnflorida they were once descried as "the lennon and mcCartney of dance and electronica" and its quite right :)

  • @kidnflorida wel said

  • Face to face is great!!! I am no fan of daft punk.. But that is a kick arse track, like 'alive'.... xxxxxx

  • cheesh...kids. "Chaka Khan" is an artist, a female singer, not a group. AND you could argue - hadn't her song existed, neither would "Music Sounds Better With You". Saying that the new song that samples the old one is somehow BETTER is the most ridiculous, unfounded statement possible.

  • @samsamba08 WELL FUCKING SAID!!! DUMB FUCKERS!!

  • What did Daft Punk do to make that part at 0:48?

  • @sampsonist It starts off with just the sample thatn @ 0:48 the bass and beats that they made come in.

  • @sampsonist

they used a filter for the first part, mid pass, and then chucked in bass and trebele, and equlized it at 0.48

  • i thought 'music sounds better with you' was a one-off

doesn't make them a one hit wonder!

  • Also, Thomas Bangalter & Alan Braxe would've sampled the song because they think it's a good song and enjoy it. I don't get why that would make you so spiteful towards them.

  • I don't have anything against Chaka Khan; they're before my generation, and I'd never heard of them 'til now. There's nothing wrong with older music, from the short clip it sounded like a nice song. However, it's ridiculous to deem "Stardust" a talentless one hit wonder who produces their music on laptops. Thomas Bangalter was producing music BEFORE electronic music was EVER created on laptops. They're both talented artists who produce different types of music. It's impossible to compare the two

  • lick me clit!!!!!!

  • Daft punk shit over this group and are MORE original!!!

  • Chaka wa s all real music and original. This shit has already dated and is just made on a fucked up program on a laptop.. Fuckers can't think of anything original!!! Just rip off real artists!!

  • @sexyrexysexy

The ignorance of your post isn't surprising.

No, this song isn't dated, and that's one of the wonderful things about it. It has remained surprisingly fresh and relevant for over a decade.

Second, this wasn't made on a laptop.

Third, this group is one half of Daft Punk, and all of DP's work hasn't come close to matching the success of this one track.

  • @sexyrexysexy ..People have been sampling music since as early as the 60s, they're not ripping off the original artist nor does it make them talentless. Take a look at all the hip hop and rap artists out there today, a good majority of them do nothing but sample other songs. Learn more about music before you start bagging on classic artists like Daft Punk or Stardust.

  • Smart man.. So true.... Not a new thing I guess.. Have a good week my friend.......

  • THANKS FOR POSTING SEXY xx But I must say.....Chaka did it better xx

  • I disagree, I think they are both aewsome

  • I disagree!! Chaka's version is timeless, and I am ALWAYS right!!!!

  • THE BEST TRACK OF ALL TIME!!!

  • so what?

  • Very interesting. I didn't really like Stardust but that guitar hook always intrigued me, I liked the sound of it. Thanks.

  • Not all songs that sampled funk are hip hop songs, and not all hip hop songs sample funk!

Stardust may have made a great house track that sampled funk. But I think its blasphemy that most hip hop songs released after this song don't sample funk.

Hip hop was an extension to funk in the first place, and Will Smith is also from the 90s and has extensive verification that hip hop sampled funk!

  • YOU TELL THEM KARL!!!

Radio stopped playing Stardust's song a long time ago, I don't guarantee it ever will play the song again. With all the sucky songs radio has today, its similar to how a dormant volcano may fuck up some beauty in an area with a false impression of it.

If modern technology such as iPods, and Internet (particularly YouTube) leaves us with less room for excuses on radio, then modern technology will give volcano warnings too!

Just say NO to radio, and say YES to YT

    YT4LIFE

  • best song House ever!

  • I don't think it's fair to call it "genius". Thomas Bangalter's father was a disco producer and all of 90's house samples disco. He had access to a huge collection of records and a rich father who had enough money to buy them a bunch of recording equipment. Cool, yes. Genius, no.

  • I'm a producer myself. I've made hundreds of songs from scratch, but now i use also a lote of samples from old disco/ funk tracks... am i a genius no, is thomas bangalter a genius? Yes, he did it in almost every record he made, and they were all great. They all got more famous than the original.

access isn't the thing to make this, it's creativity thats important

  • I'm a producer too. Who isn't nowadays? Genius is a word naive people use.

  • I agree genius gets thrown around a lot. In reality in means you really like the sampling, so in that sense I'll say T & G are geniuses. :)

I used to think of sampling as real difficult, but once I got into it I see how easy it really ease. The difficulty is in the creativity. I think of sampling more as a nerdy medium for music lovers. Kind of like the references in the sitcom "Spaced." Taking parts of the past we love and adding to them.

  • He genius in his own right he has a sharp ear for music

  • I am so glad you have done this. I am a DJ and have wanted to compare originals to the sampled bits for ages. I just never got around to it. Great job.

  • noo haha! i was just saying ive been producing for over 4 years haha!

what they did was innovative and creative, genius!

  • it's genius

  • It is genius, because they heard an entirely new (yes, it is new) song from a short loop.

They came up with the accompanying chord progressions, put in the sidechain compression, and molded that short little loop into one of the best dance songs in history.

    anybody can sample.

not everybody can turn a sample into a classic.

  • perfectly worded!

  • @sexyrexysexy

It's also interesting that you say Daft Punk are "more original", considering the whole of their early career, up to and beyond Discovery was based off of sampling other artists in the same way that Stardust did.

They only had one hit because they only ever released ONE song, moron.

  • bUT HANDSOME... iT DOE'S NOT SOND SO DATED.. & THEY HAD SOME KILLER ORIGINAL TRACKS.,. iE.alive......

Ps eat my pussy.....My Mf pussy!!

  • Quit with the caps lock; your point is still weak.

This track is still considered the staple of french-touch style house. Criticizing Stardust while praising Daft Punk for "originality" is just inept.

  • Fuck off turd burger.... You have no fucking idea!!

  • suck my doodle xx Scaff f!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With your head bitch!!!!!

  • Quit being a stupid troll.

  • Crock of SHIT!! It is not the best dance track at all!! You need to get out a little more often you silly goat!!!! It is not classic as it already has a dated sound.. So poo to YOU!!!!

  • @hilzor Not CLASSIC. Already sounds shit and dated compared to Chaka's version. That is classic. FOOL!! Anybody can sample. Why don't they make their own shit up.... Best dance songs in history? You need to get out a little more my friend. FOOL!!!!

  • I mean, really, would you say that the verve sampling a rolling stones song and looping it over, repeatedly for "bittersweet symphony", and consequently creating one of the best rock songs ever written isn't a stroke of genius? they did the same thing.

  • it's a lot harder than that, zoomzip.

    a LOT harder

i used to play clarinet/ drums/ guitar for YEARSSSSSSSSS as a kid (almost 8 years) and transitioned to production and it's a HUGE leap of differences and skills

i can see where you'd think that, but come on now

  • alright then smartass i wanna see you sample that exact same part, pitch it to 135/140 and keep the entire sample over 1 bar because its fuckin hard! been producing for 4 years and ive tried myself so dont go moaning about brilliantly created tracks just cos youve never got anywhere mate :)

this songs one of a kind!

  • it is genius, only a proper cratedigger can take a part that is almost insignificant in it's original form and base an entire track out it. the sore losers are the ones who didn't come up with it first and the ones who are desperately trying to repeat the same formula.

  • The best house tune ever, thanks for Disco!

  • UNLIKELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent

  • Unbelieveqable sampling.I've tried sampling funk soul and disco but can't and don't think i'll ever find a sample so effective and beautifully sounding.Unreal!!

  • yeah, thomas and guy manuel sampled many things they used to hear and like as kids... it's just a way to thank or honor an artist or song, if you were musicians maybe you'll do the same with songs u like or u used to like, and make a great job

    :)

by the way, i just cry when i listen to stardust's track :):):) good memories come to me

  • Me too!

What an excellent song - the best of the '90s, without a doubt. Don't laugh, but I think there is something very deep about it, the music is very hypnotic

  • I know how you felt. I rediscovered this track after 9 years yesterday and since then its been on a constant loop on everything iOwn :) Best tune ever IMO. Are you still listening to it?

  • if u ere closley u can here some of around the world

  • ????

  • i can kinda see where your coming from, the Fate sample, the 4 baseline notes sound like the ATW baselane

  • Bangalter its a fucking genious !

  • stardust might have only sampled 2 seconds - but they still managed to build the whole track around it!

  • Stardust only sampled 2 seconds of the original song lol

  • but that 2 seconds of the original makes up the whole song for stardust.

  • And thats the genious of it. A whole record from a couple of bars of another!

  • @spermbank1 And what an great record

  • @Benfrommad 'a great record'. No wonder you like this shit. You can't even spell bitch..... off with your head. CHIP CHOP!!

  • @sexyrexysexy OH yeah sorry I accidently type "an" instead of "a". I should go to hell for that. stupid

  • @Benfrommad not to hell..... straight to hell......

  • music sounds better with you is the most beautiful house track of the latest 10 years... nice work spermbank
