Roy didn't love Pam and Pam didn't love Roy. When Roy and Pam hung out you could tell that they weren't even fully comfortable around each other, even after all that time they had been together. But then when Jim and Pam hung out you definitely could see the connection, and Pam was a lot happier.

He's a great actor he made Roy such a douche but not a self conscious one. He was oblivious to how horrible he treated Pam. This is one of the moments of what for him was genuine reflection.

Besides Roy was big and mighty and had a burly beard kinda like Santa Clause. I bet Pam lays awake every night scared that if some one broke into the home in the middle of the night, all jim would do is make goofy facial expressions. IF it was Roy he'd rush the cat burglar and than dance on the burglars corpse.
Pam obviously prefers an intelligent man who can appreciate who she is and who can make her laugh. In this day and age, women fortunately are not forced into making mating-decisions solely based on who's the better protector or other things as trivial as who is more handy.
But that's neither here nor there, she likes who she likes. Neither your infatuation with Roy's capable hands nor your fetish for men's facial hair has any bearing on that fact.
