There are better videos. I've fixed several xboxes and this video is not going to do a good job. You need to clean ALL the old paste off. Then use a heat gun to heat the motherboard to 200+ degrees to reflow the solder in the board. Then after cooling, put GOOD thermal paste on the chip. I use Arctic Silver 5. DON'T smear it around... That'll cause bubbles. Just put a small amount in the center and it will cover the whole chip when you reattach the heat sinks.

@missem80 yes you can do something, ive had this E74 i layed mine down and put it in a more vented area and unpluged everything including hdd and Ethernet, the next thing if you have the time is look up fixes online, also you can check your power rating what does the sticker abover where the power goes in (at the bottom when standing up) also does it have HDMI output, then you can see if it is fixed the chances of it happening again

3:00 a quarter? 3:38 i happen to be an avid overclocker and it is very important to get good temps to remove all of the old thermal paste and clean the heat sink and the chip. That is the reason why you are replacing the thermal past in the first place, because it isn't transferring the heat to the heat sink properly.

It's not exactly what you have, but it will fix it because its the same thing just not as big as a problem. Eventually you'll get 3 red rings though if you keep playing it without the fix.

I don't have those 4 legs that come out my holes go straight under the heatsink metal so I can't place a screw in from the top.

it should say that on your tv. try calling xbox customer support and seeing if your xbox is under warranty. if it is; they'll send a new 360. if not, they'll try to hustle you to pay 119$ to get it fixed.

So I tried fixing my xbox 360 yesterday. the inside was a little bit different than what yours looks like in the video. I don't have any screws in either of my heat sinks and the thinner rectangular one has a 3rd heat sink attached to it that isn't touching anything else... so no thermal glue on the 3rd heat sink. I bought my 360 about 3 years ago.

I used a thermal glue I bought at Staples and everything seemed to work okay. I turned it on and played for about 10 minutes but then

Always clean the heat sinks and chips up as best you can. If there are any air gaps between the heat sink and chip it can cause thermal failure. If this happens, you will need to get a new GPU installed. If the CPU dies, your Xbox is toast.

You should add two 1mm washers to each nut on the top side of the board so that warping does not occur. When tightening the replacement bolts or nuts, only tighten them as much as you can with just one finger and thumb, just snug.

The Xbox 360 X-clamp replacement fix is only temporary at best and can cause more damage in the long run, but if you follow these tips you can minimize the chances of further damage to your system:

Never spread the thermal paste on small die chips such as the ones used in the Xbox 360. You just need to put a rice grain size amount directly in the center of each die (the shiny part on top of the chip) and the heat sinks will spread it out perfectly even when they are reattached.

i didnt need to do any of the extra stuff, i just took the xbox apart to the motherboard and used air in a can to clean the dust off the heating system and the fans, then i overheated it til there were only 2 red rings like the video said and it works.

For anyone who is doubting this... You have good reason too. Sure this fix works on some xbox's it worked on mine and it has worked on countless other xbox's i have used this on. However the fix is not a 100% sealed deal sooner or later your xbox is gonna give out on you again it may be 3 days after you fix it or it may be 3 years but fact is it will eventually crash and let you down once again!. All xbox's are different some last longer than others with this fix but it does work for most :)
