I've been using free software for 14 years, and this is probably the second time I've seen someone display true leadership like this.
Mark Shuttleworth clearly understands that the in-fighting common in the free software world isn't doing the rest of the world any favours. He's a true visionary in his field, and is doing great things.
@fighterpiolt1992 Since the linux counter says there's aproximately 121607 linux users out there, i think the only way to reach 200M new users is if canonical pays a free blowjob for each user/installation of ubuntu. With extra if you come from a windows environment.
@fighterpiolt1992 well, i'm sure there's more than linux counter says, since linux counter seems to be a little abandoned... by the way, its not so diferent to calculate, everytime you browse you're sending info about your system, browser etc so somebody could make an approach. Anyway, from 30M to 200M there's a big jump.
@aliancemd Like CoD, Crysis, World of Warcraft, etc. Also, graphics on Ubuntu will need to be equivalent or better. Also compatibility with more graphics cards especially AMD.
@8jwong14 The proprietary graphic drivers are pretty good... All Linux distros(if I'm not wrong) come with the Open-Source graphic drivers by default which are 2-10 times slower and consume more power. Graphics is not that big of a problem on Linux, people just have to install the Proprietary drivers...
This is absolutely true. I'm using Nvidia propitiatory drivers for years and the work perfectly. As for AMD last couple of releases they are doing a great job too.
@aliancemd but AMD's latest graphics driver for AMD/ATI cards which they released so it could be installed on Natty is a huge mistake. Much slower to the point I can't always run flash properly and there are image tearing issues.
@benjamina222 Tearing is not a surprise for ATI, I have it on Windows too... As always, AMD ATI makes powerful GPU's but are lacking in the software/drivers compartment and nVidia makes less powerful hardware but are Great in software/drivers.
As regards "Unity" - Give me a Gnome, where the Buffalo roam and I will shovel up after them.

Mark -
get the folks at GNUCash to make it possible to migrate painlessly from QuickBooks,
i.e. Import .qbb files and you will get your 200,000,000 users.
