@Agammenon6 The USRP version 1 is the most inexpensive of the peripherals manufactured by Ettus Research. The one I used was purchased by my university for my research and cost approximately $700. The BasicRX and BasicTX boards sell for $75 each. The prices haven't changed since I purchased the unit about 1.5 years ago. Prices can be found at the Ettus Research website.
@joshitoxxx The difference between the USRP and a "normal" transceiver is that the USRP does all demodulation of the RF signal in software. The hardware you see in the video is for digitizing the signal and transferring it to a standard PC or laptop so that it can be processed digitally and turned into audio (or data) that you can hear or your computer can use.
