a real tune like black bear, cam intake exhaust. Just a real tune will net you almost 40 whp over stock while removing tourqe management and oher crap that the HT tune wont address. If you do a cam you will see another jump. I am going to add a 100 wet shot on my 6.0 too.

I can add just as much hp to a dohc modular small block ford as you can any pushrod big block.I have 5.0 mag article with a 281 ci dual over head cam twin turbo modular engine with over 2,300hp.if you dont believe me,look it up.its there.

8.1 great engine but they all use oil from the factory, just make sure you change that oil. i had to replace the rings in mine at 80,000 miles. i changed the oil every 3,000 but it didnt do any good and it gets 9 mpg on highway

whats been done to your truck? my 01 2500 suburban does pretty good on gas. i can go 132 miles and my gas gauge will drop about 3-4 lines depending on traffic and weather. my 06 vortec max is another story. going the same route as the surbuan ill use almost a half tank. i blame it on the 4.10s lol but i love my chevys.

Why? Dmax are too expensive to fix and have a high cost of maintenance. Diesels have got soo complex that the 8.1l tends to be more reliable.

if you drive high miles a year a diesel pays for itself many times over. i got a 03 dmax with 101k on it and no problems. any truck is only as good at the person who takes care of it

At one time there was no argument, you'd been right. But now with higher cost of diesel, changes in diesel fuel for emissions, and emissions controls on the engines causing poor fuel mileage. Diesels aren't the bargain they once were. BTW my dad has an 03 an 8.1l with 160k on it with no problems and I've seen many service trucks with 8.1l make 500k with only miner problems.

i pull a 34 foot inclosed trailer that weighs fully loaded over 10,000lbs and an 8.1 or 6.0L gas could never give me the mpg or raw torque the duramax does.

We've got an '02 8.1L with 178k on it right now, still no overhaul & still runnin' like a champ. Knock on wood, no major problems with the engine yet, and it's a farm pickup so she doesn't get treated the nicest
