  • your cam is cound of round

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!

I finally know how to take off that cover for the express slot lol!!!!!!!!!!

****Note this laptop gets extremely hot when playing games, and it will crash after 30 mins of 3D gaming due to a combination of heat and a bug in the 130m GT video card!!!

  • thats back in 2009 that computer dosen't have windows 7. windows 7 came in late 2009

  • I have this exact notebook, im on it right now :) Incredible product, I love Hewlett Packard <3

  • HP sucks they don't have warranty

  • @Thegoodvideos101 haha.....they actually do have warranties on alot of their products...... i just got the new dv7 with 3 year accidental warranty

  • well, its nice but, it isn't as elegant as a MacBook

    (waits and expects hate)

  • the battery for me lasts 2 hours

  • get windows 7

  • im gonna ask santa for a HP HDX laptop now.

  • @TheKillerGuy1000 Santa's gonna' need a time machine. This product has been discontinued. :-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia *beep*

  • @TheKillerGuy1000 Check ebay or amazon. Hope this helps!

  • THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. I have a toshiba satalitte... I don't think I'm getting another toshiba.. Lol.

  • are there no light in it? I mean Under rit?

  • no offence but u talk alot but thats good because u explain everything to me :) so i understand

  • I bought this laptop about 1 and a half months ago, and the seller of the laptop told me that it was really really good and designed for playing computer games and I bought it. Then I went home, installed WoW, and BOOM it shutted down without no reason, instantly power off without no warning at all. Now I would like to know is there something wrong with this laptop becouse I can't play more then half an hour with this computer without shutting down, or should I go and sue the store:)

  • @sardehh Shut-down problems are typically related to power or heat. If it runs OK doing nothing for more than an hour, but shuts down after an hour of gaming, it's a heat issue. Since HP designed some great thermals into this thing, I'd say you have a malfunctioning fan somewhere inside. If it's still under warranty, contact HP.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Heat is not the issue, I've tried. Yes, I am going to the store this weekend to complain about their product. If they can't help me, I contact HP.

  • @sardehh ;p; SAME freaking thing here i got wow the same time i got the laptop but last time i went with the dv6 "thats good 4 games" now the dv7 i say movies and music:)

  • ALL OF THE CURRENT MACS HAVE FIREWIRE 800 PORTS EXECPT THE MACBOOK AND THE MACBOOK AIR!!!

  • @14duffytc1 Thanks for sharing, but WHY ARE YOU YELLING? :-)

    - Jason

  • hi . i was in a store and i found a laptop looks just like this and its hp too and it looks like this one there isn't any diffrent but instade ( 512MB NVIDIA GeForce ) it was ( 1 giga Geforce ) the problem was that they wanted to give me the last one wich wasnt clean . the question is do you know what is the model that looks the same like this but with 1 giga Geforce ? or any other laptops but with 1 giga Geforce ?

and thanks for the great unboxing .

  • don't worry about TV, mediasmart TV doesn't work also i just lost 2gig RAM (hardware fail) right after my warranty was over. Runs pretty cool if you keep the fan always on. I use it almost 24/7 its very reliable.

  • howlong did batery actualy last

  • @zingzangzap I didn't test the battery life. You generally don't use a monster laptop like this on battery for more than a few minutes.

    - Jason

  • How Much Is That?

    Where Can I Buy It?

  • how many cores?

  • how much did you buy that for

  • its in the description and it is $1363.99 USD

  • srry didnt see, dont like too read

  • ts been while since came out but about how much was it?

  • It's all right there in the video description... :-)

    - Jason

  • Yes, it has an SD/memory card slot.

    - Jason

  • how much Ghz

  • It's all right there in the sidebar.

    - Jason

  • How much did you get it? Or are they still selling them?

  • I didn't "get" it, it was a review loaner from HP, so I shipped it back. That series of laptop is being discontinued, so get it while you can...

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia

Hi Jason, I went throught some Fourms with HP. An HP Worker said that they dont have the material for that series right now thats why they took them off web. I got this laptop like 1-2 months ago and i love it, just got a messanger bag from christmas for it and it fits nicely.

  • Hi! I get this for 1300 EUR,is this good comp? HP HDX X18-1180US Premium Notebook PC Here is details: 2.00 GHz Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9000 6MB L2 Cache RAM 4096 (max 8192) NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Up to 2302MB (512MB dedicated) 500GB (5400RPM) LightScribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer ntegrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1 This is it :-)
  • no.

  • omg what a beautiful laptop

  • then which one is the dragon?

  • The Dragon is a model from more than a year ago. It's no longer being sold. Check my older videos for a video about it.

    - Jason

  • Hi! I'm going to buy hp hdx 18-1300 series. I don't give a crap about the pavilion dv8... because it ain't so nice... Ofcourse it's roughly the same chassis, but it ain't as damned sexy as this hdx 18!

  • this laptop is available in other countries too like in the eastern countries and on the western countries?

  • I don't work for HP, so I don't know what their world-wide distribution is like. :-)

    - Jason

  • thanks! Jason nice video and a cool laptop is hp pavillion hdx is the latest laptop or the x18 i can't understand the difference between them........!

  • The HDX and the X18 are the same laptop. The name of the video is the "HP HDX X18"...that's the full product name.

    - Jason

  • which kind of graphic card it is having? is it ATI Radeon HD or AMD Duron HD well same as it is in HP Pavillion HDX LAPTOP

  • All the specs are in the sidebar: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card is what this model has.

    - Jason

  • HP Notebooks have very loud CPUs ! Mac 4 ever !

  • If you think a CPU makes noise, you need to learn more about computers. :-)

    - Jason

  • do they still sell these?

  • i hav a problem coz if i type that on the uk website it comes up as wat service do you need and the only laptops like that are things like the 1200 premium etc. but not the 1058ca

  • The 1058ca was made for the Canadian market only - versions in your own country will come under different model numbers.

    - Jason

  • im getting that laptop :)

  • does it have a backlit keyboard??

  • Yes, it does.

    - Jason

  • I just bought this computer off Ebay. I didn't realize until after I bought it that it has the 32-bit windows on it, not the 64-bit. Should I upgrade?

  • depends. 64 supposivly runs faster, supports most games. I got the same laptop, works great after 2 units -_-.. 1st, Shut down after gaming 1 hr., 2nd, Bluescreened, problem was the RAM, i just switched it around it works fine.

  • I'm emailing the guy seeing if he's willing to cancel the transaction. I'm afraid that if I have to upgrade the OS myself that a lot of the drivers will not work like the Web-Cam, Finger Print reader. And I don't want to go through that hassle.

  • How much RAM did it come with? If it's less than 3 GB, 32-bit is just fine.

    - Jason

  • its heavy as hell..i sold mines a month after i bought it ... good performance thought

  • My DV5 matches those specs >.>

  • correction, without the 1TB hard-drive and Quad core processor

  • Correction......Future Shop IS selling this product.

  • my cousin bought one a few weeks ago and omg, they are amazing, very powerfull and beautiful, its a desktop replacement so he sold his desktop.

  • lol can u play games on it???

  • you can play games on any PC right, why not this one? Yes its designed for High Performance/Gaming/Mulitmedia

  • my dad got a pavilion DV7 for $999.99 (United States Dollars)

it had 4GBs of RAM, 17 inch screen, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 500GB of hdd, 7200 rpm, lightscribe,a media reader and a built in Webcam/Mic combo

    He bought it from Costco

  • damn that adapter is a brick, lol, but very nice laptop

  • that laptop is amazing, especially with the iluminated keyboard, im gettin one but the 16 inch one

  • it's called BackLit

  • can u tell my the ports??

  • Please go to HP's Web site and check for yourself.

    - Jason

  • ohh yha 1 final question what the battery life??and whats better amd mobile or intel dual?

  • I didn't test the battery life on this computer - you don't buy a computer like this and hope to use it on battery for longer than an hour.

    - Jason

  • ok thank you...

  • so i can only run to the other room and hoke it up?

  • is an 18.4 inch easy to use for schooL?

  • lol theres a same model but the screen is 16" but yha i planningn to get this for school

  • so it's not to big/heavy ?

  • lol what u mean? 16 in is lighter and a bit slower...this one is 9 lbs and pretty good....or u go to hp and c ustomumize the laptop so it will cost 1199 like this one?

  • I would recommend you the 16. 18.4 is just way to large and it is designed to stay at home. Trust me you dont need those extra 2.4 inches. And you'll save money and it will be ALOT lighter. With the SAME specs. SAME gpu. You should go for hdx-16 3500.

  • Oh by the way, finding a bag for a 18.4 inch laptop is very hard. My 17 inch barely fits my one...

  • 18.4 is a VERY large screen. if you want to use it for school, it is possible, but it will be awkward fitting it into a small backpack. if you get an 18" carrying case it should blow everyone's computer away. If you don't mind carrying around a 9 pound monster, it would be great!!

  • I saw where HP had an HDX out last year that weighed in at 15.5 lbs with a 20.1 inch screen...Like to know what happened to that one?

  • That one got discontinued....the new HDX laptops are the replacement.

    - Jason

  • Beautiful Notebook. I am going to buy the one with the 16,4" display.

  • The specs say the 320 hard drive is 7200rpm. What gives?

  • Specs change - YouTube videos are a snapshot in time that is, at best, only accurate for the day the video was shot. HP's Web site will have the most up to date info, not a YouTube video.

    - Jason

  • I need to know whether the GeForce 130M GT is a must have compared to the 512MB 9600GT M, or am I ok with the 512MB for Counter-Strike, and possibly other newer games! THANK U

  • GeForce 130M GT is 17% faster and must have at least 4 to 8GB of Ram but the 9600 gt can play games like counter strike but have a harder time on games on crysis in high settings.

  • so does it over heat ?

  • If you are gaming, yes... just because of the laptop casing... if you plan to game a lot, it will heat up!

  • There's no laptop on the planet that will overheat unless there's something wrong with it (broken fan, etc.). No one designs a laptop to overheat.

    - Jason

  • Which 1 is better HDX 16 or 18? I read somewhere the 16 is bad and 18 easily over heat?

  • I haven't tested the HDX 16, but "bad" is kind of vague. The HDX 18 I tested didn't overheat, even when I was benchmarking it. I think you're getting some bad info...

    - Jason

  • Yeah, I think so too. That's why I asked you about this. Anyway 1 more question, I know the laptop is huge but is it heavy too? Is it good for using it as mobile? coz i'm still a student.

  • This is a lot of weight to carry around - and it's not very nimble in terms of getting it out of a bag, getting it set up on a table, etc. I'd think a student would want something smaller - maybe a netbook, maybe an HP dv2.

    - Jason

  • Both the HDX 16 and 18 versions are almost the same. Difference is HDX 18 has a (1920x1080) boasting full 1080p while the 16 model has only a 720p screen.

  • The hdx 16 got full HD too, just as hdx 18

  • I am sure that this laptop is worth every penny. It's got a powerful processor, a LARGE screen, BluRay, and a good graphics card. I have to wait until my laptop dies out though (I have an Alienware M9750 from Apr. 2007)...but until then, nice video!

  • very nice, saving up for the same laptop at $1,663.99 :D

  • Is the graphics integrated?

because the dv600 graphics sucks so much

  • It has an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT GPU...which is only a dedicated card, not integrated.

    - Jason

  • Dedicated means it can use the system Ram if the video card needs it

  • does it come with a remote i mean the small one which is placed in th laptop

  • Umm...yes, that's why it's shown in this video. That's the entire point of unboxing videos. :-)

    - Jason

  • I'm thinking on getting the 16" version of this one... with the NVIDIA 130M 1GB and 3.06GHz processor. I was also thinking of the Macbook pro..but most games I like aren't Mac compatible, and I know it has bootcamp...also macs lack USB ports, the 15" has only 2 and they look sort of fragile. The HP, I think has better hardware choices for less. I actually own an HP dv6000. I don't know which one to buy.

  • Get the HP HDX...it's going to be much less expensive than the Macbook Pro I bet, and you'll get better hardware. Though the battery life on the 17" Macbook Pro is tough to beat!

    - Jason

  • nice im getting a hp laptop at the weekend. it will be blu-ray as well

  • i am now thinkin about getin it but is there a chance of the fully pimped version in the uk

  • Best to go to HP's UK site and see... :-)

    - Jason

  • Really good review!! Best on the web. Very thorough. I was able to see all the features and was informed what is what.

If I had to change something, then it would have been neat to seen the HP boot up and play with some of the features, like the fingerprint thing, etc.

But that stuff doesn't really fit in an unboxing ^_^.

Bottom line, i've been searching for a good video of unboxing, and this is really good. It's not just someone moving their hands around really fast trying to be cool.

  • This is just my unboxing - check out the actual review video. :-)

    - Jason

  • EHy I orderd a hdx16t laptop and I use to have a dv7t. Is there liek a huge difference between a 16inch and a 17in or just a slight difference?

  • Is the dv7 a 16:9 aspect ratio screen? If not, then yes, there's a fair difference - the 16:9 screens aren't as tall.

    - Jason

  • somebody..........megapixel of webcam???

  • I'm not sure - sadly, HP always hides this information on their spec sheets. It's VERY irritating to me. If I were to guess, I'd say it's 1.3 megapixels...that seems to be what most HP Webcams are.

    - Jason

  • Hey my name is matt and I am getting the steroid version of this PC soon. I was wondering what that little remote you found actually does?

  • The remote control is for controlling Windows Media Center: watching DVDs, looking at photos, etc.

    - Jason

  • Thanks for the reply, any way you can show some gameplay on this?

  • Nope - it was returned to HP. I had it for a few weeks then had to send it back.

    - Jason

  • Men...... I know its a loaner but..... come on!!!! you hit time and time again. I'm surprise it turn on (never see it booting though) LOL I hope its ok : (

  • The microphone on my camera really amplifies the sound, so what you perceive has a "hit" isn't nearly as hard as you think it is. I find it kind of frustrating that people keep commenting that I'm being rough on the hardware - I'm not.

    - Jason

  • Do you think Hp is more reliable than dell laptops because i keep hearing that dell is pieve of crap.

  • Both HP and Dell make good laptops - I have no hesitation recommending either one.

    - Jason

  • okay do you know if all hdx 18 laptops come with the controller???!!!im getting mine soon this week and im just nervus if it does or it does not.

  • I'm pretty sure they do - but if you go to HP's Web site and look at the spec sheet, I'm sure you can find out for yourself.

    - Jason

  • wtf, did you get this one customed? mine came in a damn cardboard box (BROWN!) I want that damn box you got!

  • Mine came from HP Canada, so maybe it's a regional thing?

    - Jason

  • That eSATA port also doubles as a USB port.

  • Yup! You can never have enough ports. :-)

    - Jason

  • Does this laptop charger work with the HDX 16t?

And.. If you were to come to the UK with it, and used one of those power seocket coverters (Cheap one), wouldnt it fry up the laptop?

    Or would it work?

Because my situation is, that I need this laptop, but im in the Uk and there arnt any here.

So Im buying an american one from Ebay?

    Thanks for all your help.

  • I'm not sure about the laptop power adaptor - I'd be surprised it HP used a different one, but the HDX18 certainly uses more power than the HDX16. As for the voltage, you're safe - laptop power bricks are good from 100v up to 240v. All you'll need is a physical adaptor for the part that plugs into the wall.

    - Jason

  • :) i have that laptop got a ocz vertex on it

and transferred all the files from the HD using acranos

    Norton ghost was horrible

oh and for some reason the charger dies quickly on all of my hp laptops u cant return them and get a new charger because its not covered by the warranty but here is the strange thing if u buy the charger from hp its covered by the warranty and dosnt die in a week like all the chargers that come with hp laptops

  • If the same plug in your wall is killing laptop AC chargers, then you should call an electrician.

    - Jason

  • i got the 16t pimped outt . i defenetly like the LED screen & the infinity display. But my favorite part about this laptop is the fingerprint reader and the keyboard that lights up like the mac. i think that they're the only laptops that do tht . Thanks for the video by the way .

  • Hey thanks for posting this video. Right when I saw this laptop I really liked it so I went on You tube and found this vid.. I really liked this review so thanks.

  • You're quite welcome - I'm glad you found it helpful. :-)

    - Jason

  • Why didn't you customize it and then ship it out of the us? By the way. Thats a lot better since you can have the quad processor for the same prize i think. Anyways this is the most apealing computer for me. I'm going to start and save money for this computer. I will be happy to retire my hp pavilion dv9000.

  • #1: I'm in Canada, HP won't ship to Canada from their US ordering site. #2 This was a loaner unit from HP Canada. #3 I have no need of an 18" screen laptop right now.

    - Jason

  • That eSATA port also doubles as USB port.

  • nice and thanks for posting in hd

  • hp x18 11010 :) i think its nicer :)

  • Yes, the 1010 is the unit I'd get if I were going to buy one of these. :-)

    - Jason

  • yeah i was in pc world like in jan it was around €1700 not sure..i was ther last week thy only had one and it was €1100 ...i wanted to buy it but dont rilly need one atm but if u r lookin for one check pc world ....and im in ireland lol i dont knwo wher u form duh lol

  • I need help should i get the hp hdx16t, 18t or a macbook pro 17

  • those three were my choice but now im going with the 18t because the 16t which is just like a downsize of the 18t with the same spec its more expensive and plus with 18t you get a bigger screen so i cut out the 16t. now with the macbookpro, ive always liked apple but I kind of think that for money this one is much better.

  • Isn't the 18t too heavy and big? i might end up going for it too. but i thought of the 16t

  • true that its big but weighing in at 8 something pounds well... you gotta sacrifice somethings. right now the thing that im confused with is the time in which each model is released, like shouldnt there be the remote in the express slot?

  • Thats true,, but i think i will go for the 16 and upgrade to the 1 Gb video card

  • Express card slot, LOL :)

  • What's funny about the ExpressCard slot exactly?

    - Jason

  • funny to think that was the remote holder, and watching a random youtube video i see something i didn't think of. (of course, i haven't used an express card in years but still)

  • Well, I don't have the X18 any more - I had to send it back to HP when I was done reviewing it - but in several HP laptops I've looked at, that's exactly where the remote goes when not in use - the ExpressCard slot. Does the X18 have a dedicated slot for the remote? I haven't looked at this thing in 6 months, so I don't remember... :-)

    - Jason

  • i just thought of it as the remote slot, since i don't have a express card.

  • meaning, the remote, which you showed in the little plastic case, has the female plug end to the express card adapter, and plugs right in as if it were a card. you have to push in slightly to release the remote, which is actually not an easy push.

  • Did yo uorder this onine or buy it from a shop?

  • Neither - this was a loaner unit sent to me by HP's PR people, and 30 days later I sent it back.

    -Jason

  • Oh yea, that was in the video. soz :P

  • I heard the definition and graphics are incredible..

but you run blu-ray or movies for a short time..is that true?

If so..it shouldn't be praised like that if you can't watch an entire movie on it...

  • I watch blu-ray all the time, with no problems.

  • Are you referring to the battery life? No, the battery won't last through a whole movie - but why would you expect it to? This is an 18" screen, monster laptop that's designed to be a portable desktop computer, not a long-lasting "take it on the plane and write for six hours" laptop. If you're looking for a laptop with great battery life, this is most certainly not it.

    - Jason

  • yeah, i agree, the batter will last up to an hour and a half for me. they really should have offered a larger battery option, but in the end, it's a desktop replacement. you would not want this on your lap after about 10 minutes.

  • how much time did the battery last ?

  • I didn't do a battery benchmark - you'd have to be crazy or desperate to want to run this only on the battery. ;-)

    - Jason

  • 1779 AUD converted , but we pay 3200 AUD , once again aus comsumers getting totally ripped off

  • lol

  • Anyone of you guys have same experience? When you unbox your hdx is it cover with a plastic then with a black sleeve, or just a black sleeve.

  • I got mine 7 days ago after checking it for a couple of hours I decided to have it exchange with the same spec. The one they gave me looks like a refurbish. It has some spec of glue on the cover and on the palm rest. It also have some dents and bumps on the speaker grill. A very frustrating feeling for my first HP laptop.

  • It looks GREAT.

Im going to buy it as soon as i gets MONEY for it.

  • and HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner,HP Color Matching Keyboard, and a 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

  • I have a HP HDX18T Quad Core Laptop. Specs:

    Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit, Intel Core2 Quad Processor QX9300 2.53Ghz, 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)-For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M,

1TB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (500GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection, 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M-For DDR3 Memory, 18.4" diagonal HD HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p), Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer, Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish,

  • I am your mom's new boyfriend, call me Ed.

  • i was wondering , i'm in a country that uses AZERTY so can i find the same laptop with the AZERTY mode ?!

  • Does HP sell laptops in your country? If so, then the answer is yes. If not, then probably not...but you'd have to do the research yourself.

    - Jason
