Nothing wrong with a .45 revolver. The .45 ACP cartridge was designed to duplicate the terminal effectiveness of the .45 Long Colt. Trust me, it will put them in the ground just as fast as a .44 Mag or .357 Mag—so long as you do your part! Shot placement is key!
is this the only 45 revolver cuz my dads bringing me one but i dont know what it looks like and this the ony 45 revolver on youtube he said it cost like 700 but hes a big over exagerater
Personally, I prefer the 686's .357 design, though I can see the obvious appeal of the 625. A bit high of a recoil, but I guess if you're going to be using a revolver, fast firing wouldn't be that big anyways, especially when you have 6 shots. :P
Revolvers destroy hanguns in reliability, so I've always admired them, but well, volume beats accuracy. :P
Well first off, in a self-defense situation, the .44 would WRECK your eardrums in a confined area, since not only is it high caliber, but it is a magnum. Second, less caliber and a similar model often means more reliabilty as there is less force acting against the bullet and on the gun. Third, ammo is a little less expensive with the .357, which is pretty nice when you pay on average $1 a bullet. Fourth, it's fairly versatile, since it's a mid caliber and size.
@metalwreck450 Actually the decibel level of a .357 is even higher than the .44 magnum. 357 Magnum 164.3 dB Most handgun cartridges fired in a normal sized bedroom, with cause permanent hearing loss, the lowest is 45 Colt among big bores. .25 ACP 155.0 dB .32 LONG 152.4 dB .32 ACP 153.5 dB .380 157.7 dB 9mm 159.8 dB .38 S&W 153.5 dB .38 Spl 156.3 dB .357 Magnum 164.3 dB .41 Magnum 163.2 dB .44 Spl 155.9 dB .45 ACP 157.0 dB .45 COLT 154.7 dB
Really though, a gun is a gun, and no matter if it's a .357 or a .44 magnum, that bullet will destroy anyone without armor, just the .44 would have greater stopping power, louder, and higher recoil. So it's more about preference than anything. I would get the 686 magnum simply because I wouldn't be using it as a self defense tool.
LMAO...are you a darth vader fanatic? Did I just see you at the range using a OSHA cartidge respirator? That has to be the funniest range video I have ever seen!
This is the most common gun used by competitors in the Revolver division in USPSA action pistol competition. Everyone uses moon clips for fast reloads.
I had one of these for a couple years. I love the .45 ACP round and this revolver is heavy enough to tame the recoil extremely well. It's very accurate too. Mine had a serious problem, certain factory loads were hot enough to jam the hammer lock so that the key wouldn't release it. I had to wiggle the cylinder back and forth and pull on the hammer and trigger simultaneoulsy in order to work the hammer lock into its free/off position. Several trips to several gunsmiths were unsuccessful.
I do like your reviewing style very smartly done, however just one thing that somone may have mentioned. .45 ACP is not that uncommon in a revolver. It may be today but if you werent aware, the M1917 revolver was chambered specifically for .45acp and was used to supplement the 1911 in WW1.
I think the 625 is the best of them. I use moon clips and have the hammer bobbed and action tuned by Alan Tanaka. Ppl cannot believe how fast the reload sequence is, esp after the cylinders have been chamfered.
Revolver is more reliable than glock or sig or any semi-auto matic. BUT if you got MORE than a two guys breaking in, and you gotta shoot them all, the low capacity of the revolver might mean you run out of ammo before the threat is stopped. You have to plan on missing some of your shots, those who say they are not going to miss are not being realistic. I would say 6 bullets is enough to stop two guys assuming I shoot two bullets into each, and miss twice. BUT this gun is still a great choice.
You mention in this video "I was stunned to learn that the .223 is just a high power .22 long rifle bullet"
Well, kind of. The .22LR uses 30-36 grain bullets usually moving around 1200fps, while the .223's military loading (5.56x45) is a 64 grain bullet moving around 3100 fps.
The real difference isn't diameter of the bullet, but the impact. .223 makes the water in your organs splash when it's still above 2700fps, and spins in circles as it goes through you. .22 doesn't cause splash damage.
Hey, great review and nice safety tips. I have one question, is it the .45 that also shoots the 410 ga? I'm in a hurry out the door and don't have time to look it up. Thanks!
Also, when I purchased this gun the trigger was a little hard. I bought a Miculek Spring kit, and the Miculek "Revolver Trigger Job" video. After tinkering a bit, having a gunsmith give some pointers, and following the instructions on the video the trigger pull went from 12 lbs to a very smooth very reliable 8 lbs. I don't recommend this for carry or duty purposes (danger of light strikes if the trigger is set too light), but for gaming an range use it's great!
I'm going to be a gun nerd for a second. I'm an avid shooter and I always believed that revolvers were more reliable than automatics. At this point though, all of my old revolvers, even Colt Pythons have needed some work, usually in the cylinder. Meanwhile I have put way more rounds through a Glock and even a Colt m1911 in less time and they are still kicking. After tinkering with a revolver an ak47 is like playing with Legos. Way simpler and more robust parts are much easier.
on the .223 vs. .22 subject, if you know how calibers are measured, they are measured in hundred's of an inch thick. this means that the bak of a .22 bullet(the bullet that is shot, not the bullet shell) is .22 hundredths of an inch think. a .223 is only three thousands of an inch thicker. there's a much larger powder charge however.
@conman7997 At home defense distances shot does not spread quickly enough to mean a sure hit. It is very feasible to miss at close range. it only adds a small margin of error over a single bullet. Terminal ballistics are devastating though, there is no comparison in that catagory.
What was that failure of the crane of the 625 range video? Is there a need to "tweek"(Slight mod) for the crane as in using some Threadlock on various screws? There is always SOME need, via experience to modify most all guns in some way.
Nice review! Actually, the 625 works very well as a concealed carry gun. The trick is finding a good holster (and the right wardrobe) so that the gun can be carried outside the belt. I was considering the NG until I compared it to the JM on the range. The JM was much easier to control. The NG's low weight absorbs very little recoil energy, which can even cause the bullets to unseat. Also, the aluminum alloy frame does not have steel's tensile strength and can fracture under stress.
Thank you for the feedback. After looking closely at the nightguard, I have to agree. They are just too light. The size is nice. Too bad it's not stainless.
@aracefan2001 I notice you said that this revolver is not a ccw option, I think it all comes down to preference, I know alot of people who ccw revolvers and I'm one of them, I ccw my 357 magnum Ruger GP-100 4' barrel and I don't have any problems with ccw it, well I've been carrying heavy guns for a long time since I was working in private security.
@gmoore9449 as far as the holsters, I have an IWB from a place in MN called Side Guard Holsters for the JM...... Very concealable, very comfortable. Highly recommended. I have one of his for my 1911 and S&W Sigma as well. Sometimes I forget they are there.
