If it's not broken then don't fix it. Boeing kept the old mechanical controls because it is interchangeable with 737 Classics. The A320 is FBW, but it still needs hydraulic fluid to move its controls.

Airbus use fly-by-wire for surface control. But Boeing 737NG still using hydraulic fluid as surface control. That's old fashion way.

And Boeing 737 stimated about 4,495 currently flying...
