Please clarify my ignorance. There is Samba de Gafieira and International Ballroom Samba, right? Samba de Gafieira is 100% Brazilian, seen in this video, and International Ballroom Samba is a European creation, right?

From what I understand, International Ballroom Samba is derived from a dance that used to be danced in Brazil in the early part of the 1900s called Maxixe. It's not a 100% european creation.

Samba that we dance in pairs is called "Samba de Gafieira" and 100% brazilian.

These others dance styles that you see at international events (or competitions) are not THE Samba... well... not what we know as Samba.

They call it International Ballroom Samba or either "International Standard Samba" and even the songs aren't Samba songs...

A shame... we must say... the brazilian style, and rhythm are beautiful and we would love to see it at international competitions!

you're right. Samba de gafieira is Brazilian. Europeans create another samba, wich in my opinion isn't samba. The second one is similar to caribbean rytms, not similar to Brazilian Culture.
